~Elsie's POV
I kept staring at my reflection, my eyes swollen from crying, my breathing was still uneven as I tried to calm myself down enough to speak again. The room felt heavy with everything I had already said, but somehow it still did not feel finished.
I touched my stomach again gently, almost carefully, like I was afraid even now.
"I know you would not want mommy to keep crying like this forever," I whispered softly.
Fresh tears gathered in my eyes again, but this time my voice sounded calmer, even if it was still shaking.
"You probably want the best for me too," I continued quietly. "You probably do not want me trapped like this."
I swallowed hard and looked down for a second before lifting my eyes back to the mirror.
"I am trying," I admitted softly. "I really am trying, but it is hard."
My fingers tightened slightly against my clothes.
"Everything still scares me sometimes," I whispered. "Even simple things."
I let out a slow breath and wiped at my cheeks again.
