Chapter 22 - Whoever They Are

Kaelen ascended the watchtower's walls with the chain that had attached to its summit.

The watchtower fell, leaving the detector alone. Silas had launched himself from the sky. Solmar and the chain fell with him.

The chain ended up on the peak of the leftover watchtower.

Kaelen climbed to the top. The detector felt within his reach, yet so far from his arms.

Kaelen looked at the ongoing fight below. There Silas had Solmar lying on the stairs.

Silas looked upward and said, grunting, "What are you waiting for, boy?"

Kaelen jumped down. "I can't reach the detector, you will have to do it?"

Silas kicked already downed Solmar into the wall. "You will have to hold Solmar down."

He nodded.

Silas jumped up into the sky as high as he could, leaving wind gusts strong enough to lift Kaelen's feet off the ground.

Kaelen looked at Solmar, he was unconscious with blood all over his body.

If it wasn't for the surge of black aura that covered the mine . Then the black aura wouldn't have suppressed Silas's abilities. Silas sat down on the top. "I can't do it either"

Kaelen ran back, "That black mold, we will have to go through it."

Kaelen's leg tripped, or at least that's how he interpreted it. The thought of Solmar catching him was so dreadful that his brain cleared the thought.

He didn't dare to turn around and kept pushing forward with his other leg.

Silas jumped back to them "Only you can do it. I can still hold him down a bit". He removed Solmar's hand and pulled out a small blade.

Kaelen rushed downstairs, jumping from stair to stair.

He rushed to the mines. Nevyziel was watching all this from the roof where she had been all this time.

Upon reaching the mines, he felt something asking for him, something deep within the cave.

He got in. It was the only thing he could do. Travelling through the black mist was the simple part. On the stairs, dead bodies lay on one another.

He followed the voices through the mines. It was a one-way path he didn't have any space to turn around.

Then he reached the light, black light.

A slash of black, compiled energy of all sorts was floating in the sky. Almost unreal. It felt like something liquid that had insane potential inside it, floating in a random place.

Kaelen reached out for it. It extended. The middle part had taken the shape of Kaelen's hand. He let himself get sucked into it.

The feeling was not strange. It was someone's void. But whose?

Kaelen's feet couldn't find the floor of it. But it decided to hold Kaelen.

It wasn't a person, a belief that had taken the place of something too strong.

"What are you?"

A sound came not from any source. Kaelen looked beyond himself and realized the state that the tormented being was in. "You already know the answer to that. I am nothing but the conscience of creation itself, or you could say that i am the embodiment of creation. Above the laws of this world, I and other fragments of reality live. Creating a weak structure of this constantly changing world that refuses to adapt."

"Whatever you are, you don't need to do this. Why would you wanna destroy your own creation?"

"Ooh, i am nothing but a slave of my creation, i create them, but they are what create me too. Going against a favoured one is beyond my capability."

Kaelen dropped his hands and kneeled. He turned his face towards the floor to hide it, even though he knew he couldn't hide his face.

"Favoured one? Who are they? If you cannot, then tell me how I can save them. Please don't give up on this. I can change this structure, i can free you. Help me this once, and once i ascend above these laws, I will change this structure."

Kaelen felt a powerful gaze on his watch. "That watch hand it over to me"

Kaelen stretched his hands straight up. The watch gave a strong tick, the tick of setting up a condition.

"Don't worry, I haven't set up something crazy. If you fail to change the situation and somehow survive at the same time, everything will revert back to how it was. And remember, everyone involved in the condition will know about it and your location. Not your exact location but something like your house, city name, a workplace."

"All i have to do is survive?"

"No reverting back means i will come back in this form. It's time they won't allow us to talk anymore."

Kaelen got thrown out of the void and the base. the black mist had covered the whole base.

He turned to his right. Nevyziel had her arm going through Solmar's chest. Silas was just beside Nevyziel, unhinged, kneeling on one leg.

"We are leaving right now, get the car Kaelen."

Kaelen ran back into the forest and got the car. He picked the others up.

"You two have a lot of explaining to do."

Nevyziel replied before Silas could, "You were gone for hours we need to know what happened."

"I was only doing my work. you two were doing something off-plan." Kaelen took a deep breath and pressed the steering wheel as hard as he could, screaming, " What do you mean by suppressed? and why would you explode something and attack the watchtower like that.?"

"Don't go around screaming at me kid, I don't need to explain my work to you."

Nevyziel stopped Kaelen this time. "I had to do it, that's how my nerfed powers work, all of us have things forced upon us. It was the same for Silas, just like how you can't use any power borrowed from gods without the chains. "

"I see... You should have told me earlier about that."

"We never thought that Lyne and Nyx would fail so bad. Now it's your turn, what happened there?"

"I met the embodiment of creation, it's almost impossible to win this time but he saw something in me and set up a condition on my watch that whenever... so i have two tries to do it or maybe infinite if i can repeat it."

Silas tapped on Kaelen's shoulder from behind. "Kaelen, there's something you need to learn before anything: drive to where your house was and take a left from there."
