Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: No Way Out

The air changed.

That was the first thing Jayden noticed.

Not the footsteps.

Not the tension.

The air.

Heavy.

Like something was about to break.

Dre stood a few feet away, eyes locked on Jayden.

No smile.

No hesitation.

Just that same cold look.

"You should've stayed out of this."

Jayden didn't move.

Didn't blink.

"You set her up."

Dre exhaled slowly, shaking his head.

"It wasn't like that."

Jayden let out a short, dry laugh.

"Then explain it."

"They came to me first," Dre said. "Before all this."

Jayden's jaw tightened.

"And you said yes."

"I didn't have a choice."

"You keep saying that," Jayden snapped. "But you never explain why."

Footsteps echoed again.

More men entering.

Positioning.

Waiting.

This wasn't over.

Not even close.

"You don't understand what they got on me," Dre said, voice lower now.

Jayden stepped forward too.

"Then make me understand."

A pause.

A long one.

Then Dre shook his head.

"You don't want that."

Jayden moved first.

Fast.

Closed the gap—

Grabbed Dre's shirt—

Slamming him back against the wall.

"Where is she?" he growled.

Everything froze.

The room.

The men.

The moment.

Dre didn't fight back.

Didn't reach for anything.

Just looked at him.

"She got out," he said again. "I'm telling you the truth."

Jayden's grip tightened.

"Then why you still here?"

Dre's eyes flicked toward the others.

Then back to Jayden.

"Because I can't leave."

"Enough."

The voice cut through everything.

Calm.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

The leader stepped forward slowly.

Clapping once.

Then stopping.

"You two can settle your issues later."

Jayden released Dre—but didn't step back.

Eyes still locked on him.

"You said she got out," Jayden said.

The leader smiled slightly.

"She did."

Jayden turned to him.

"Then this is over."

The smile didn't fade.

"Not quite."

Jayden's eyes narrowed.

"What does that mean?"

"It means…" the leader said calmly, "…she got out of the room."

A pause.

Then—

"Not out of here."

Jayden's chest tightened.

Outside.

That voice.

"Where you going?"

Amara stood frozen.

The man in front of her blocking the path.

Not rushing.

Not shouting.

Just watching her.

"You thought it was that easy?" he said.

Her heart pounded.

But she didn't step back.

Didn't cry.

Not now.

"I'm not staying here," she said.

Her voice shook—

But she meant it.

He stepped forward slowly.

"And where you going?"

Amara glanced around quickly.

Cars.

Fence.

Open space—

But nowhere safe.

Run?

Fight?

Hide?

None of it felt like enough.

She ran.

Footsteps behind her instantly.

Closer.

Faster.

He wasn't playing.

Jayden didn't wait.

Didn't think twice.

He moved.

Straight toward the exit.

Two men stepped in his path.

Too slow.

Jayden hit the first—

Hard.

Drove him back—

Turned—

Struck the second—

Cleared space.

"Stop him!" someone shouted.

Too late.

Jayden was already moving.

He burst through the door—

Into the yard—

Just in time to see—

And someone chasing her.

Jayden took off.

Full speed.

Closing distance fast.

"HEY!"

The man turned—

Too late.

Jayden slammed into him—

Driving him off balance—

Both hitting the ground hard.

Jayden didn't waste time.

One clean hit—

Then another—

Until the man stopped moving.

Silence.

Just breathing.

Heavy.

Fast.

Amara stood there.

Frozen.

Looking at him.

"You came back…" she said softly.

Jayden didn't answer immediately.

Just looked at her.

Making sure she was real.

Okay.

Alive.

"Let's go."

More voices behind them.

Coming out.

Fast.

Jayden grabbed her hand.

"Stay close."

They ran.

The gate.

Locked.

Jayden looked around quickly.

Thinking.

Fast.

"Climb."

"What?"

"Trust me."

He boosted her up.

She climbed—

Struggling—

But making it.

Jayden jumped—

Grabbed the top—

Pulled himself over—

Just as—

"Don't let them get out!"

They hit the ground on the other side—

Running into the darkness—

Because now—

It wasn't just about escape anymore…

It was about what comes next.
