Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Bleeding Silence

The night swallowed them whole.

Dark streets.

Empty roads.

No voices.

Just footsteps.

Fast.

Uneven.

Desperate.

Jayden and Amara didn't stop running.

Couldn't.

Not yet.

Not when danger still felt close enough to touch.

"Keep moving," Jayden said, his voice low, controlled.

But something about it—

Didn't sound right.

Amara glanced at him while running.

His pace…

It was slowing.

Just slightly.

At first, she thought it was nothing.

Then she saw it.

Dark.

Spreading.

Down his side.

"Jayden—"

He cut her off.

"I'm good. Just run."

But he wasn't.

And she knew it.

"You're bleeding," she said, panic creeping into her voice.

"It's nothing."

Lie.

Clear lie.

Jayden took another step—

Then another—

Then his leg gave slightly.

He caught himself before falling.

But that was enough.

"Stop," Amara said.

"We can't," he replied immediately.

"They're still out there."

Jayden forced himself forward.

Every step heavier now.

Every breath sharper.

The pain was setting in.

Fast.

Not now…

Not here…

He had made it out.

He wasn't dying on some random street.

They turned into a narrow alley.

Dark.

Hidden.

Quiet.

Jayden leaned against the wall—

Then slid down slowly.

This time—

He didn't catch himself.

"Jayden!"

She dropped beside him.

Hands shaking.

Eyes wide.

"I told you I'm fine—" he tried to say.

But his voice weakened.

She looked at his side.

And froze.

It wasn't small.

It wasn't "nothing."

It was bad.

"I don't know what to do…" she whispered.

Her hands hovered over the wound.

Not touching.

Too scared to make it worse.

Her breathing got faster.

Mind racing.

Nothing clear.

Nothing steady.

"Hey…"

His voice was lower now.

But still there.

Still strong—just barely.

"Look at me."

She did.

Immediately.

"I'm not dying here," he said.

Not dramatic.

Not emotional.

Just certain.

"You need to stay calm," he continued.

"Can you do that?"

She nodded quickly.

Even though she wasn't calm at all.

"Good," he said.

"Then listen."

"Press here."

He guided her hand to the wound.

She hesitated.

Then pressed.

Jayden's body tensed instantly.

Pain shot through him.

But he didn't make a sound.

"I'm sorry—"

"Don't be," he cut in. "Just don't stop."

For a few seconds—

It was just them.

Breathing.

Pain.

Fear.

He came back for her.

Fought for her.

Bled for her.

And now—

She didn't even know how to save him.

Voices.

Far.

But not far enough.

Jayden heard it too.

His eyes sharpened slightly.

"They're still looking…"

"We can't stay here long," he said.

"But you can't even stand," Amara replied.

Jayden let out a slow breath.

Then—

He pushed himself up.

It wasn't clean.

It wasn't easy.

But he stood.

Barely.

Amara quickly moved under his arm.

Helping him stay up.

"I got you," she said.

This time—

Her voice was steady.

Not scared anymore.

Focused.

Because now—

He needed her.

They moved again.

Slower.

Careful.

Every step costing something.

Dre stood still.

Watching the empty space where Jayden had escaped.

"You let him go."

Not a question.

Dre didn't respond immediately.

Then—

"He would've died anyway."

The leader stepped closer.

"Don't lie to me."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

"You're only useful as long as you follow instructions," the leader said calmly.

Dre's jaw tightened.

"And tonight…"

A pause.

"You didn't."

Dre looked up.

Eyes cold.

But inside—

Something was shifting.

They reached the end of the alley.

A quiet street.

No movement.

No voices.

Jayden's strength was fading.

Fast.

He looked at Amara.

Vision slightly blurred.

"Don't let me stop here…"

he said quietly.

Because now—

This wasn't just about surviving the night…

It was about surviving what comes after it.
