Today, Kevin's mother came into Kevin's room. There was calmness on her face, hope in her eyes, and a gentle smile on her lips. She said, "I want to talk to you about something important. May I?"
Kevin replied, "Of course, Mom. You don't need to take permission from me. Please go ahead."
She asked, "What do you think about your marriage?"
Kevin became slightly angry and said, "Mom, you know that I still haven't been able to forget Sofia. It is not easy for me to give her place to someone else so soon."
Kevin's mother continued, "By the way, that guest of yours… the one you call 'beautiful'… I truly find her beautiful as well. She is not only beautiful in appearance but also pure at heart. She respects us so much. Girls like her are very rare these days."
Kevin interrupted in a firm tone, "Mom, please stop. Don't say anything further."
She calmly replied, "Fine, I won't say anything. But what about what my eyes are seeing?"
Kevin frowned slightly, narrowed his eyes, and asked, "What do you mean, Mom? What are you trying to say?"
His mother gently held his cheeks and said, "I mean that I have seen love for that girl in your eyes. I have seen how happy you are when she is with you, and how much you care for her—just like you used to care for Sofia."
Kevin's voice trembled slightly as he said, "Mom, we are just good friends. I simply like helping her."
His mother looked at him lovingly and said, "Oh really? Then why is your voice trembling? Why is your heart racing? Why are you nervous? And what is this sweat on your forehead?"
Kevin touched his forehead, wiped his sweat, and said nervously, "Mom, it's very hot today, that's why." He then looked at his watch and quickly said, "Mom, I'm getting late for the hospital. I'll talk to you when I return."
He walked out of the room as if he was trying to avoid the conversation.
As he was heading outside, Sarah was coming from the opposite side. She was very happy today because she had recently started walking again, and she was slowly trying to move around the house.
Kevin, however, was not mentally calm. His mother's words had created many questions in his mind. Due to his restlessness, he accidentally bumped into Sarah, and both of them fell to the ground.
Sarah, who had just started recovering, got a slight injury on her foot and her right elbow. She cried out in pain and started rubbing her foot and elbow.
Seeing her in that condition, Kevin became extremely worried and said in a panicked voice, "Hey beautiful, are you okay?"
Before Sarah could say anything, Kevin quickly lifted her in his arms and carried her to her room, then gently placed her on the bed. Sarah found his behavior a little unusual because he was always calm, but today he seemed different.
Kevin rushed to bring the first aid box. His forehead was covered with sweat, his face showed anxiety, and even his hands were trembling. Sarah noticed all of this.
Kevin then started applying medicine and scolding her, "Hey beautiful, you don't take care of yourself at all. This is not good. You have just recovered from such a serious injury, and still you are being careless."
Sarah couldn't say anything because Kevin wasn't even giving her a chance to speak. She gently placed her hand on his lips and said softly, "Shhh… now you won't say anything."
Kevin became silent and looked at her.
Sarah then lifted a layer of her dress and gently wiped the sweat from his face. After that, she got down from the bed, gave him water, held his hand, and softly stroked it while saying, "Relax… everything is fine. I am okay."
Kevin's mother, who was standing outside the room, was watching everything and smiling.
Sarah then held Kevin's hand and suddenly reacted in shock, "Oh my God, your hands are so cold!" She looked at him with wide eyes and said gently, "Doctor Kevin, you don't take care of yourself at all. This is not good. This won't work."
Seeing Sarah's care, Kevin's heart melted even more. He was falling deeper in love with her. He kept smiling while looking at her—her words, her way of speaking, and her reactions were making him fall for her even more.
Just then, Kevin's mother entered the room and smiled, "What is going on here?"
Hearing his mother's voice, Kevin came back to his senses, quickly stopped smiling, lowered his gaze, and said, "I'm getting late for the hospital. I have to go." And he quietly left the room.
After Kevin left, his mother sat beside Sarah and asked gently, "Can I ask you something?"
Sarah replied politely, "Yes, of course."
She then asked directly, "What do you think about Kevin?"
Sarah had been waiting for someone to ask her about Kevin. She immediately started speaking, "Kevin is not only a great doctor but an even better human being. He takes such good care of his patients. You saw his condition today—he was scared, trembling, and cold, yet he didn't think about himself, only about his patient. I truly like him… very much."
Kevin's mother felt happy hearing this and then asked, "Would you like to marry my son?"
Hearing this, Sarah went silent for a moment. She had no words.
After a pause, Sarah said softly, "Aunty, Kevin is a very good person, and I respect him a lot. I would happily marry him… but I feel like there is someone in my life. Whenever I try to feel for someone or get close to someone, my heart and mind try to remind me of that person. So tell me, how can I be unfair to that person?"
She continued, "Kevin saved my life, gave me a place to stay, clothes to wear, food to eat. He supported me when I needed it the most and helped me become capable again. If I marry him without being sure of my feelings, wouldn't that be wrong? Wouldn't that be unfair to him?"
Hearing this, Kevin's mother became silent. A sadness appeared on her face, and she quietly left without saying anything.
Sarah also remained silent, wondering if she had said something wrong.
