Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Last Bench Nobody

The classroom fan spun lazily overhead, barely cutting through the heat. Chalk dust lingered in the air, mixing with the low hum of students whispering and the teacher's voice echoing across the room.

And in the very last row…

Sat Ravi.

His name existed in the attendance register, but nowhere else. Not among toppers. Not among athletes. Not even among the popular crowd.

"Ravi!"

The sharp voice snapped him back to reality.

"Yes… sir."

"I asked you a simple question. What's the answer?"

A few students chuckled. Ravi looked at the board—numbers and formulas blurred together like a language he could never understand.

"Sir… I don't know."

"Of course you don't," the teacher replied coldly. "When do you ever know anything?"

The class burst into laughter.

Ravi lowered his head.

This wasn't new. It was routine now—ignore, survive, go home.

But inside him… something burned.

"Why am I so weak…?"

The bell rang. Class ended.

Students walked out laughing, talking, living their lives. Ravi slowly packed his bag when Arjun, the class topper, walked past him.

"Bro, why don't you at least try seriously?" Arjun said casually.

Ravi gave a faint smile. "I do try…"

"Doesn't look like it," Arjun smirked and walked away.

Ravi stayed silent.

I try… but maybe it's never enough.

The road from school to home wasn't long, but today felt different.

Dark clouds gathered overhead. The wind grew stronger.

Ravi walked, lost in thought.

"I want to do something big in life…"

He had heard that line a thousand times.

But how?

No talent. No support. No confidence.

Just… average.

As he reached an old alley, the wind suddenly howled louder. Lightning flashed.

And then—

BOOM!

A loud explosion echoed.

The ground trembled slightly.

Ravi froze.

"What was that…?"

Ahead, at the corner of the alley, a strange blue light flickered.

Something pulled him toward it.

"Should I go…?"

Then he remembered his life—boring, repetitive, meaningless.

"What do I even have to lose…?"

He stepped forward.

The closer he got, the stronger the energy felt—like electricity in the air.

And then he saw it.

A small crystal, glowing with an intense blue light, lying on the ground.

"What is this…?"

Ravi reached out.

For a moment, he hesitated.

Then he touched it.

FLASH!

Blinding light filled his vision.

"AAAH!"

Voices—countless voices—flooded his mind.

Pain.

Unbearable pain.

His body went out of control.

And then—

[System Initializing…]

Ravi's eyes widened.

"What…?"

[Host Detected: Ravi]

[Compatibility: 99%]

[System Awakening in Progress…]

"System…?"

His heart raced.

"Am I hallucinating…?"

[Do you wish to awaken?]

[YES / NO]

He froze.

Was this real… or a dream?

Memories flooded in—insults, failures, rejection.

Then something changed in his eyes.

Determination.

"YES."

[Awakening Confirmed]

BOOM!

An invisible wave of energy exploded from his body.

Ravi collapsed.

The pain intensified—

But this time… something else was mixed in.

Power.

His muscles tightened. His senses sharpened.

Every sound became clear.

Every movement visible.

The world turned… vivid.

Then silence.

Ravi slowly sat up, breathing heavily.

"What just happened to me…?"

A transparent screen appeared before him.

[STATUS WINDOW]

Name: Ravi

Level: 1

Strength: 5

Agility: 6

Intelligence: 7

Luck: 3

Skills: None

Title: None

Ravi stared in shock.

"A… game system?"

He looked at his hands. They looked normal… but something inside had changed.

He picked up a small stone and squeezed.

CRACK!

It shattered.

His eyes widened.

"My strength… increased?"

His heartbeat quickened.

"I'm not weak anymore…?"

Another notification appeared—

[New Quest Available]

Quest: First Step to Power

Objective: Run 1 km without stopping

Reward: +1 Strength, +1 Agility

Ravi smiled.

For the first time… genuinely.

"A quest…?"

He looked up at the sky.

Rain began to fall.

Drops hit his face, but today… he felt different.

"Maybe… my life is about to change."

That night, Ravi sat in his small room.

Same old bed. Same old table.

Same life…

But something had changed.

"Status."

The screen appeared again.

His stats.

They could increase.

A thought crossed his mind—

"If I become strong… no one will ignore me again."

He clenched his fist.

"Not tomorrow… I start now."

He stepped outside.

10 PM.

Empty streets.

Light rain.

"1 km… shouldn't be hard."

He started running.

100 meters—easy.

200 meters—breathing heavier.

300 meters—legs hurting.

"Control… your breath…"

500 meters—his body began to give up.

"I won't stop…"

Voices echoed in his head—

"When do you ever know anything?"

"Doesn't look like it…"

His eyes burned with determination.

"I'll prove it…"

700 meters…

800 meters…

900 meters…

His body screamed in pain.

But he pushed.

One last effort—

1000 meters.

He collapsed on the ground, gasping.

And then—

[Quest Completed]

[Reward Granted: +1 Strength, +1 Agility]

Ravi smiled, eyes closed.

"I did it…"

He stood up slowly.

Still tired… but something had changed.

Confidence.

"This is just the beginning…"

He looked at his hand.

"I'm changing…"

His eyes no longer held weakness.

Only one thing remained—

A hunger for power.

Far away… in the shadows…

Someone was watching.

"The system has activated… interesting."

A faint smile appeared.

"The game has begun."

Ravi didn't know it yet…

He hadn't just awakened a system…

He had opened the door to a world where the weak don't survive.

And now—

The boy from the last bench… is about to rise to the top.

But every rise has a price.

That night, as Ravi stood under the dim streetlight, his breathing finally steady, another notification appeared—different from the others.

Darker.

He frowned.

[Hidden Condition Triggered]

[New System Feature Unlocked: Danger Sense]

Before he could even react—

A sharp chill ran down his spine.

His body moved on instinct.

He stepped back.

WHOOSH!

Something sliced through the air exactly where he had been standing a second ago.

Ravi's eyes widened.

"What the—?!"

He turned around quickly.

At the edge of the street, near the broken wall… something was moving.

No.

Someone.

A figure slowly stepped out of the shadows.

Tall. Covered in a black hoodie. Face hidden.

But the presence…

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Ravi's heart started pounding again—this time not from running.

From fear.

"Who are you?" Ravi asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

No response.

The figure tilted its head slightly… as if observing him.

Then—

[Enemy Detected]

Level: ???

Threat: Extreme

Ravi froze.

"Extreme…?"

His fists clenched automatically.

"System… are you serious right now?"

The figure took one step forward.

And in that single step…

The air itself felt heavier.

Ravi's instincts screamed—

RUN.

But his legs didn't move.

Not this time.

All his life, he had run away.

From insults.

From failure.

From fear.

But now…

Something inside him had changed.

He took a deep breath.

"No…"

His voice was low… but firm.

"I won't run anymore."

The figure suddenly disappeared.

Ravi's pupils shrank.

"Wha—?!"

BAM!

A powerful force hit his stomach.

Ravi was thrown back, crashing onto the ground.

"Ugh—!"

Pain exploded through his body.

Too fast.

He couldn't even see the attack.

The figure stood a few steps away now… as if nothing had happened.

Ravi struggled to stand.

His body trembled.

"Is this… the world I stepped into…?"

For the first time since awakening—

He realized something terrifying.

This power…

Was not a blessing.

It was a challenge.

And if he failed…

He wouldn't just be ignored anymore.

He would be erased.

To be continued...
