The idea came to me fully formed.
Not as inspiration—
But as strategy.
I sat alone in the Slytherin common room, the fire casting slow, flickering shadows across the stone walls as I analyzed the system's conditions.
Percentages.
Influence.
Distribution across houses.
"This isn't about numbers…"
I murmured softly.
"It's about reach."
Slytherin was already mine.
That much was certain.
But Ravenclaw…
Neutral. Intellectual. Curious.
"Easiest point of entry."
Hufflepuff would follow once trust was established.
Gryffindor…
Would require precision.
A slow smile spread across my face.
"Then I'll give them something to believe in."
The following week—
The groundwork was laid.
I stood before Horace Slughorn, posture relaxed, tone carefully measured.
"A cross-house initiative?" he repeated, clearly intrigued.
"Yes, Professor," I replied smoothly. "A student-led society focused on cooperation between houses."
Slughorn's eyes lit up immediately.
"Brilliant, my boy! Absolutely brilliant! Hogwarts could use more of that sort of thinking!"
Of course it could.
Because it sounded harmless.
Appealing.
Safe.
"I was hoping you might support it," I added politely.
"My support?" he said, already halfway convinced. "You have it! Of course you do!"
Predictable.
Useful.
The next step…
Was far more delicate.
I stood once again before Albus Dumbledore.
His office felt as it always did—quiet, watchful, filled with unspoken awareness.
"Professor," I began respectfully, "I wanted to discuss a student initiative."
He gestured for me to continue, his eyes never leaving mine.
Careful.
Always careful.
"I've been reflecting… on recent events," I said, letting just enough weight enter my voice.
"My parents… everything that happened…"
A pause.
Measured.
"It made me realize how divided the world is. Wizards. Muggles. Even within Hogwarts itself."
Truth.
Twisted just enough.
"I'd like to change that."
Silence.
Dumbledore studied me.
Not my words.
Me.
"I want to create a club," I continued, calm, composed. "A place where students from all houses can come together. Support one another. Learn from each other."
A faint pause.
"Break down… unnecessary divisions."
The words hung in the air.
Carefully chosen.
He didn't respond immediately.
Of course he didn't.
"You have changed, Tom," he said at last.
Not approval.
Observation.
I lowered my gaze slightly.
"I'm trying to."
Another silence.
Longer this time.
Then—
"If your intentions are sincere…" he said slowly, "then I see no reason to prevent such an effort."
There it was.
Permission.
Not trust.
But permission was enough.
"I appreciate that, Professor."
And just like that—
The final piece fell into place.
Within days—
The club was announced.
The Neutral Aid Society.
The name alone was enough.
Neutral.
Safe.
Inclusive.
Students joined out of curiosity.
Out of hope.
Out of simple interest.
Ravenclaws came for discussion.
Hufflepuffs came for community.
Even a handful of Gryffindors—
Cautious, but intrigued.
And Slytherins?
They came because I told them to.
The first meeting was… perfect.
Soft lighting.
Calm discussions.
Carefully guided conversations about unity, cooperation, understanding.
I spoke last.
Of course.
"We are divided," I said gently, standing before them.
"By house. By expectation. By assumption."
Heads nodded.
"But what if we weren't?"
A pause.
"What if we chose to be… more?"
Hook.
"We all possess talent," I continued. "We all have potential."
Line.
"And together…"
I let the silence build.
"…we could become something greater than any one house alone."
Sinker.
They were listening.
More than that—
They were believing.
Later, as the room emptied, I remained behind.
Watching.
Thinking.
"This isn't a club."
A faint smile formed.
"It's a network."
A recruitment system.
Self-sustaining.
Invisible.
No one would suspect it.
Not truly.
Not even Albus Dumbledore.
Though…
"He's still watching."
Of course he was.
But this time—
There was nothing to see.
No dark rituals.
No obvious manipulation.
Only a student…
Trying to bring people together.
And that…
Was the most dangerous mask of all.
