Chapter 16 - Chapter Sixteen: The Art of Influence

The Neutral Aid Society grew faster than expected.

Not explosively.

Not chaotically.

But perfectly.

Students filtered in day by day—curious, cautious, hopeful.

Ravenclaws seeking intellectual exchange.

Hufflepuffs seeking connection.

Even the occasional Slytherin, observing quietly from the edges.

And at the center of it all—

Was me.

I didn't dominate the room.

I didn't need to.

I guided it.

"Your wand movement is too rigid," I said calmly, standing beside a Ravenclaw student struggling with a charm.

"Magic isn't just precision—it's intent. Try again."

They did.

This time, the spell flowed smoothly.

Their eyes lit up.

"Thank you, Tom."

I smiled faintly.

"Of course."

Small moments.

Small victories.

They mattered.

Because they built something far more valuable than fear—

Trust.

Across the room, a group of Hufflepuffs sat together, quietly discussing coursework. I approached without urgency, without pressure.

"You're organizing study rotations?" I asked.

One of them nodded. "We thought it might help everyone keep up."

"Efficient," I replied. "But limited."

They blinked.

"Expand it," I continued. "Cross-house. Different strengths, different perspectives."

A pause.

"You'll improve faster."

They exchanged glances.

Then nodded.

"Right… that makes sense."

Of course it did.

Because I wasn't giving orders.

I was giving improvements.

Over the following weeks, the pattern became clear.

I didn't recruit everyone.

I selected.

The talented.

The driven.

The overlooked.

Ravenclaws with sharp minds but no influence.

Hufflepuffs with quiet loyalty but no direction.

Each one received something slightly different.

Guidance.

Attention.

Opportunity.

And in return?

They gravitated closer.

Not forced.

Not controlled.

But willingly aligned.

Abraxas approached me one evening after a meeting, his expression thoughtful.

"You're not just recruiting them," Abraxas Malfoy said quietly.

"No."

I didn't look up from the notes I was reviewing.

"You're… improving them."

That made me pause.

Then—

A faint smile.

"Yes."

Because that was the difference.

The old path relied on fear.

On domination.

On force.

This path?

Created something stronger.

Dependence.

They improved because of me.

They succeeded because of me.

And eventually—

They would follow me.

Because they wouldn't want to lose that.

Across the room, I spotted several promising individuals deep in conversation.

Ravenclaws.

Sharp. Observant.

Potential.

"Focus on them," I said quietly to Abraxas.

He followed my gaze.

"The intelligent ones?"

"Yes."

A pause.

"They're the most valuable."

Because power alone wasn't enough.

I already had that.

What I needed now—

Was a system of minds.

The system's presence lingered quietly in the back of my thoughts.

Percentages.

Progress.

Rewards.

Ravenclaw was rising steadily.

Hufflepuff—slower, but more stable.

Slytherin remained secure.

Gryffindor…

I hadn't truly begun yet.

A mistake I would correct.

I leaned back slightly, watching the room with quiet satisfaction.

"This is only the beginning."

The Neutral Aid Society wasn't a club.

It wasn't even a cover anymore.

It was a foundation.

A network spreading through Hogwarts itself.

And the most dangerous part?

No one saw it for what it truly was.

Not the students.

Not the professors.

Not even Albus Dumbledore.

Though…

A faint thought lingered.

"He will."

Eventually.

But by then—

It would be far too late.
