Chapter 3: The Truth Beneath

The silence in the room felt… wrong.

Ajay closed the diary slowly, his mind racing. Sammy stood beside him, uneasy, his eyes scanning every corner.

"We're not alone here," Ajay whispered.

Before Sammy could reply—

Tap… Tap… Tap…

Footsteps.

Not heavy like before.

Lighter.

Human.

Both of them froze.

"Did you hear that?" Sammy whispered.

Ajay nodded. "Someone's here."

They followed the sound carefully, moving through the dark corridor. The torch flickered again, casting long, distorted shadows on the walls.

Suddenly—

The floor beneath Sammy clicked.

"Wait—don't move!" Ajay shouted.

Too late.

SNAP!

A metal trap shot up from the ground, barely missing Sammy's leg.

Sammy stumbled back, breathing heavily. "What was that?!"

Ajay looked down. "Traps… Someone doesn't want us to move freely."

They stepped forward more cautiously now.

Every step mattered.

Every sound felt dangerous.

As they turned a corner—

A door slammed shut behind them.

BANG!

Sammy panicked. "We're trapped!"

"Stay calm!" Ajay said, though his own voice was shaking.

Then—

A faint voice echoed from ahead.

"Stop… Don't come closer."

Both of them froze again.

A boy stepped out of the darkness.

He looked around their age… but his condition was terrible. His clothes were dirty, his face pale, eyes filled with fear and exhaustion.

"Who are you?" Ajay asked.

The boy hesitated.

"…My name is Rehan."

Sammy frowned. "You live here?"

Rehan let out a hollow laugh. "Live? No… I've been trying to survive."

Ajay stepped forward and showed him the diary.

"We found this. Is it yours?"

Rehan's eyes widened.

"You… you actually found it…"

He grabbed it quickly, holding it tightly like it was the only thing keeping him sane.

"I wrote this," he said quietly.

Sammy crossed his arms. "Then stop the mystery and tell us what's going on!"

Rehan took a deep breath.

"My father… was a scientist."

Ajay and Sammy exchanged glances.

"He disappeared years ago," Rehan continued. "No one knew where he went. But one day… I found something strange in his room."

"What?" Ajay asked.

"Notes. Research papers. Symbols… things that didn't make sense."

His voice trembled.

"They all led to this house."

The torch flickered violently.

Rehan continued—

"When I came here… I found the truth."

He looked straight at them.

"My father was doing experiments here."

Sammy's expression hardened. "So he created that creature?"

Rehan nodded slowly.

"Yes… but that's not the whole truth."

A sudden cold wind passed through the room.

The torch dimmed again.

Rehan whispered—

"There's something else in this house."

Ajay's heart started pounding.

"What do you mean?"

Rehan's voice dropped to almost nothing.

"An entity."

Silence.

"You can't see it… but it's always there. Watching. Moving. Waiting."

Sammy stepped back. "This is insane…"

Rehan shook his head.

"Years ago, the people of this village used to perform rituals here. Something went wrong… and they created it."

Ajay felt chills run down his spine.

"My father wasn't trying to create the creature," Rehan said. "He was trying to destroy that entity."

Sammy whispered, "Then why is the creature attacking people?"

Rehan looked down.

"Because the experiment failed."

The room felt heavier.

"Both the creature… and the entity… are now active," Rehan continued. "And we… we freed them."

Ajay's eyes widened. "What?"

"When you entered this house," Rehan said, "you disturbed everything. Now they're both stronger."

Sammy's voice cracked. "So what happens if we don't stop them?"

Rehan looked at them with fear.

"If the entity kills us… it will be completely free."

A pause.

"And if it becomes free… it won't just stop here."

Ajay whispered, "It will destroy everything…"

Rehan nodded.

"The village first… then the world."

Silence filled the room.

They had no escape.

No help.

No time.

Sammy sat down, holding his head. "So we're just… dead?"

Rehan suddenly said—

"No."

Both of them looked at him.

"There's one way."

Ajay stepped forward. "Tell us."

Rehan's eyes hardened.

"First… we destroy the creature."

"And how do we do that?" Sammy asked.

Rehan replied—

"Fire."

"There's a furnace in the basement. My father built it for the experiment. There are chemicals inside strong enough to burn the creature completely."

Ajay tightened his grip on the crowbar.

"So we lure it there… and burn it."

Rehan nodded.

"It won't be easy."

Basement

The three of them stood at the entrance.

Darkness.

Silence.

Fear.

Ajay whispered, "Ready?"

No one answered.

They stepped inside.

The torch suddenly—

SWITCHED OFF.

Sammy panicked. "It's here!"

A loud roar echoed.

Something massive moved in the darkness.

"RUN!" Rehan shouted.

The creature attacked.

Ajay swung the crowbar wildly.

Sammy tripped but got up again.

Rehan rushed toward the furnace, trying to open it.

"Hold it back!" he screamed.

The creature charged.

Ajay was thrown against the wall.

Sammy barely dodged its attack.

The air felt… wrong.

Like something invisible was also there.

Watching.

Waiting.

Rehan finally opened the furnace.

"NOW! PUSH IT IN!"

All three gathered their strength.

They attacked together.

Slowly… painfully… they pushed the creature toward the flames.

The fire roared to life.

Just as Rehan stepped forward for the final push—

The creature stopped.

For a moment…

It didn't attack.

It just… looked at him.

Then Rehan noticed something.

Around its neck…

A locket.

His hands froze.

"No…"

He stepped closer.

His eyes widened in horror.

"This… this can't be…"

Ajay shouted, "What are you doing?!"

Rehan's voice broke—

"That's my father's locket…"

Silence.

Everything stopped.

Tears filled his eyes.

"He didn't create the creature…"

His voice trembled.

"He became it."

Ajay and Sammy stood frozen.

Rehan fell to his knees.

"He sacrificed himself… to stop the entity…"

The flames roared louder.

Now the question remained—

Will Rehan kill the creature… knowing it is his father?

Or will he hesitate…

…and doom them all?
