GA: Chapter 53 – Kaido Who Ate the Tremor-Tremor Fruit? A Tremor-Tremor Fruit Version of the Thunderclap Eight Trigrams?
Then he received another message from Huoyou.
"See if you can find any mutant wild boar, pheasant, rabbit, that kind of thing—their meat tastes better."
"Bear paws and whatever else, handle it however you like. With the spiritual qi revival, there's no real conservation enforcement anymore."
"Oh, and check if there are any mutant giant pythons deep in the mountains—those are good eating too! I've never had one, but they're big, so lots of meat!"
"If it's on your way, take a look in the sea as well. Any large mutant sea creatures? Skip sharks—I've heard the meat's awful and full of waste matter, and shark fin has no flavor. Not worth it."
"Skip dolphins too. They're too cute."
"Get a decent amount, okay? I've almost finished the last batch. I have a delivery service, but the quantities are too small—never feels like enough."
Bai Xuan's mouth twitched slightly. So many demands—why not just go yourself?
And the whole too cute to eat thing… rabbits are cute too. Why are those on the list?
Also—when did I ever agree to deliver anything to you?!
"…Hah."
He shook his head. What else was there to say? He'd deliver.
She was a Spiritual Qi Bureau employee, after all. He ought to do something—and it wasn't like it was out of his way.
"Hssssss…"
A massive black python flicked its forked tongue, its cold gaze fixed on the trembling man before it.
Not far from the man lay two humans, already unconscious.
"Help… help me!!"
The man stumbled backward in terror, tripped, and hit the ground hard. His eyes were wild with fear and desperation. He screamed with everything he had, praying someone—anyone—would hear him.
Whether it was the screaming that agitated the python, no one could say—but the enormous serpent coiled and launched itself like an arrow from a bow, hurtling toward the man with its jaws wide open, a faint rancid stench wafting from its maw.
"No—don't!!"
The man screamed. Then, in despair, he squeezed his eyes shut.
BOOM.
A thunderous impact shook the air—but the expected sensation of being swallowed never came.
Trembling, he cracked his eyes open.
Standing before him, appearing from nowhere, was a man.
And the python that had been a heartbeat away from killing him—was gone.
He opened his mouth to speak—and then the massive black serpent came crawling back out from the tree line, its icy stare locked onto the man standing in front of him. Along the python's enormous body was a deeply sunken imprint in the shape of a leg.
"Didn't die. Decent defense."
The man in front of him seemed genuinely surprised the black python had survived his strike. Had this person actually hit the serpent while his eyes were closed?
As that thought crossed his mind, his eyes went wide.
The man had pulled out a… mace?
Why was it a mace?
Wasn't the standard hero-who-shows-up-to-save-the-day supposed to carry a sword, a blade, a guandao, or a red-tasseled spear or something?
Even bare fists would make more sense—but a mace?
Outside of Kaido in One Piece, the only people he'd ever seen swing one of those were bandits in games and period dramas.
"RUMBLE—"
CRACK.
A thunderous boom rang out, and spider-web fractures split through the very air itself. The black python, struck dead-on by the mace, was sent flying—spraying blood as it tumbled backward through the air.
"HSSSSSS!!!"
"Hss… hss…"
He couldn't understand what the python was saying, but the sheer agony radiating from it needed no translation.
BOOM.
Another crash—the black python plummeted from the air and slammed into the earth.
Still alive, but clearly unable to move.
"Was that just now—the Tremor-Tremor Fruit?!"
"Those spatial fracture effects—there's absolutely no way that's anything else!!"
"Pure vibration alone could never produce that kind of visual!!"
He stared, slack-jawed, like a man who had just witnessed the impossible—which, to be fair, he had. Effects like that had no business existing in reality.
"Does the spiritual qi revival not only awaken abilities in people, but also give rise to natural treasures akin to Devil Fruits?!"
"Or maybe his awakened power is space-based?"
"No, no, no—a space ability wouldn't explain the sheer physical force that sent a giant python flying with one swing."
"Also—why a mace and not a naginata?"
"A Tremor-Tremor Fruit version of the Thunderclap Eight Trigrams?"
"…"
Bai Xuan had no idea what the man he'd just saved was thinking as he watched. He simply walked calmly over to the black python, sliced off its head, and stored the massive body in his spatial ring.
As for the head?
A flash of fire—and in an instant, the python's skull was reduced to ash.
"Didn't expect to find a catch this soon after entering the mountains. Unexpected bonus."
A faint smile touched the corner of Bai Xuan's mouth. At over twenty meters long, this serpent was far beyond the size of any pre-revival python.
Even with his appetite, this would keep him fed for quite a few days.
And snakes were excellent in other ways too—snake gallbladder and snake heart both had notable health benefits, to say nothing of a mutant python nourished by spiritual qi.
Though—weren't pythons normally found in tropical rainforests and humid subtropical environments? Why was one living in the mountains?
Or were some pythons mountain-dwellers?
He shook his head. Didn't matter.
If anything, finding them here was even better. One giant python, however heavy, wasn't nearly enough.
"Um… are you Kaido, the Four Emperors?"
Yang Lu sidled over, rubbing his arm nervously, and asked in a hushed, hopeful voice.
"Hm?"
Bai Xuan blinked. Am I Kaido?
What kind of question is that?!
"Ah—no, no, no, sorry, that just slipped out."
Seeing Bai Xuan's blank reaction, Yang Lu caught himself. He'd been so rattled by the mace and those Tremor-Tremor Fruit-like effects that his mind had immediately conjured the image of Kaido—and his mouth had moved before his brain could stop it.
"Was what you just used… the Tremor-Tremor Fruit?"
He looked up at Bai Xuan with barely contained hope. As a One Piece fan—if not an especially hardcore one—he genuinely wanted the answer to be yes.
"It's just an ordinary vibration ability," Bai Xuan said evenly. "The fact that it produces effects similar to Whitebeard's is simply a matter of how deeply I've developed it."
Well. Whether deep development could actually replicate that, he wasn't sure himself—he'd deliberately layered on the visual effects to make it look more like the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
After all, a special effects artist is a person. People are part of nature. Therefore, special effects are part of nature.
Perfectly logical.
"Is that so?"
Yang Lu scratched his head. His academic record wasn't great—could a vibration ability really produce effects that looked just like the Tremor-Tremor Fruit?
"Of course."
"That's a shame, then."
Yang Lu's face fell with visible disappointment. Then his gaze drifted to the mace in Bai Xuan's hand, and curiosity overtook him.
"Do you like Kaido from One Piece?"
"He really is insanely strong—Mythical Zoan Azure Dragon Devil Fruit combined with all three types of Haki at a supreme level. Even Luffy had a hard time. Honestly, I couldn't figure out how Luffy was ever going to beat him."
