Chapter 1 - Chapter one

"Such extravagance! I feel so alive! To be returning into such a delightful era since Heian!" A slightly dark, lavish, purple creature said with a golden crystal-like crown face. He grinned from side to side and his eyes were not visible. Two black thorns stuck out from his elbows like they were used for piercing flesh or slicing off arms. A long, purple tail extended from the back of creatures body and slithered around like a snake. This creatures legs were black like coal and so were his feet. His wrists had patches of gold-like skin that seemed to shin brightly. "Eh? Where am I?" The creatures asked in surprise looking around. The area was abandoned and quiet, destroyed builds and dented cargo containers were lying scattered about like a war happened. The creature seemed curious and touched one of the buildings wall and it instantly crashed down with minimal ease. "Odd. My revival was imminent yet everything looks destroyed? I wonder what new spirt got freed before me? There are only a few spirits I know that were during my time period. Kazenk and Renkyogo. Those are only two I can remember trust weren't defeated yet." The creature thought. "And then there's me. Kyōaku Murasaki. Although people just called me Rerin." The creatures add as he chuckled. Rerin then heard a noice in the distance, like crashing sounds and running. Rerin smiled widely, a cruel and sadistic smile. "Guess I should have some fun!" He said stretching out his muscles and pouncing up into the air as he jumped from building to building with so much force it cracked half the tall buildings part.

Rerin travel almost a mile in under 30 seconds before reaching seeing the commotion down below. Two people were running, or a least he thought there were. One was grey and weird while the other one was human with white hair. "Hmm. That other one is weird, but whatever. New victims for the very first time in a thousand years!" Rerin thought sweetly as he jumped down from the building and crashed down below. The two people whipped around to see what happened, these two people were Bill kid and Anby. They were running from an ethereal who was also know as Silver. Anby drew her sword despite carrying a small metal box in her hands, it was a safe. "You both should be proud to be killed by a person like me. I am Kyōaku Murasaki and what do I owe the pleasure of meeting you both?" Rerin asked loudly, stepping out of the dust and smoke that arose from the crater. Billy looked at Anby, he was hesitant, like he couldn't tell if this person was friend or foe. Anby said some that Rerin could hear and Billy shot two blazing bullets at him. Rerin laughed as the bullets clanged against his body and fell to the ground. "Such futile attempts." Rerin exclaimed as he took a prowling stance and jumped forwards at a blinding speed, purple-darkish smoke trails following him. Billy didn't have enough to react but Anby did and she swung her sword skillfully. She tossed the safe to Billy who caught it and backed away as Anby took center stage with Rerin. "Oh? Very interesting! I like your style!" Rerin shouted with excitement as an another arm shoot out from under his right arm and gut punched Anby. Rerin heard her gasp for air so he spun around and kicked her again, sending her tumbling across the ground and hitting a wall. "Anby!" Billy shouted in worry as he ran over, Rerin noticed that they were already half injured and he didn't exactly like that. "Darn. Looks like that vow got broken again. Half my strength will be take away for a week. Great." Rerin muttered softly along with a small curse. He made the same vow again as he stood there and waited for Billy to help Anby up. "Hey, sorry for sudden attack earlier. As repayment, do you need some help with anything?" Rerin asked in a shout. Billy looked at the creature before him and was slightly hesitant. Anby, Rerin noticed, was still alive and breathing. Her body still functioning with nothing broken. "I'll wait. Take your tim-." His words were cut short when he had to suddenly dodge a sword attack. Billy's eyes went wide as saucers and pointed his two guns at the ethereal. He fired blazing bullets that seemed to hurt the creature before Rerin. "A new challenger? Seems this is what you two were running from." Rerin exclaimed, gripping the sword, which was attached to the ethereal, and lifted it up and slammed it into the ground. "Careful. That's a Dullahan! They're very dangerous!" Billy shouts across the way.

Rerin nodded to himself, he met a real Dullahan once during Heian era. That was his only enemy that almost made him feel real fear, but who was this faker? This imposter of a Dullahan? "Such disrespect to a great fighter." Rerin muttered scornfully. He lifted up his leg and poured all his strength into it as he brought it down. Within the area a large 100x50 feet squared crater was made. The buildings around shook and trembled. The Dullahan though wasn't dead yet, just majorly injured. "Huh. Pretty durable. Maybe you'll entertain me for a bit." Rerin smiled as purplish-black energy swirled around his fist. He dashed towards the Dullahan and pulled back his fist. When he got close enough to the Dullahan he exploded his fist into it and fired his fist so strong it created a physical shockwave along with sound. Sounding like distance cannon fire to others who were within the area. The Dullahan was disintegrating into nothing but ash and smoke, leaving Rerin with half his arm left. "Much better. I feel more relieved to be living within his era." Rerin sighed in pleasure. He turned to look at Anby and Billy and walked over to them. Billy was in a state of frozen shock while Anby was still unconscious. "Hey, snap out of it." Rerin said flicking Billy's metal head. Billy shook his head wildly and helped Anby up. Rerin looked at the small metal box lying on the floor and picked it up. "I guess this is something of value?" Rerin asked curiously, studying the box. It was perfect in volume and it had a small nob on the front. The nob must be some sort of safety mechanism for keeping something safe. This must be called something like a safe or whatever, Rerin thought mildly. Billy nodded as he finally got Anby up. "Yes, we were hired to help some of our friends and found that along the way. We are just waiting for our good old boss to come rescue us. Oh, and I'm Billy Kid the next upcoming Starlight knight! Ahah! Do happen to know that film mister…uh, Bipedal animal Thiren." Billy bluntly said looking at the creature before him. Rerin felt a little offended by that comment, but decided to let it slide. "It's Rerin, call me Rerin. So sir Starlight Knight, what was that thing I just fought." Rerin asked curiously as they started to walk along the street and silent roads before them. Billy's face turned serious, at least to what Rerin could tell. "What was a Dullahan. A dangerous Ethereal threat to New Eridu. Just for review since you don't look like your from here at all, years ago these Ethereal's appeared and started wreaking havoc all across, to which we built walls to keep us safe from them. Pretty nifty, right? I think so too. Right now what we're in, we call that a Hollow. It's caused spatial distortion and some other stuff that I can't remember at the moment. Proxies help us navigate through these Hollows so that we can get out safely without getting lost. Ethereals, like the one you just fought moments ago, is what that is. They are created by Hollows due to some people having low Ether levels." Billy explained calmly. "But other than that! We pretty much just stuck and waiting for help. Our boss Nicole will be here soon and get us out of here! You should meet her, she's really nice!" Billy said as he began to yap away. Rerin enjoyed the conversation. They walked for a while, with them finally settling inside a small building with snacks and water inside. "Aw sweet! They even have the limited edition!" Billy exclaimed happily as he looked at a group of chip bags. Rerin studied the small shop. It was shabby and worn down, probably due to this Hollow event. Who could chase such a thing. It's like having large property and doing nothing with it, just letting the weeds grow and fester.

Anby woke up sometimes later and they sat on the floor, waiting for rescuers and Nicole. Anby was pretty suspicious of Rerin, which was valid and he paid no mind. Billy conversed with Rerin. Telling him about New Eridu and about his favorite movie. Rerin just enjoyed listening snd found favor in Billy. "Tell us about yourself, Rerin! I'm excited to know, got any old stories or maybe even some info about what you do!" Billy exclaimed with excitement. Anby seemed to be curious as well, but she didn't speak. Rerin was a little caught off guard by the question, he didn't exactly know what he was other than a Yokai, evil spirit, a cursed beast, Mythical creature and a monster. That's what many people called him during Heian. "I'm known as a Mythical Spirit beast. I'm a mutant of my counter parts which have a more human-like appearance, some of the others don't have human-like appearances and they tend to shy away from the rest. However we mutants are considered more powerful than a regular spirit. We are called Mythical Spirit beasts. Due to our vast range of abilities and bodies. Spirits in my times were visible to everyone as we are created by human emotions. Hate, Joy, sadness, or even fear. Based on how many people have that emotion we are then created and manifest into the world. People can see us and almost avoid us. So we tend to live in a shadows until the Heian era a thousand years ago. We revolted and fought against humans. Massacring towns and villages. Then when Humans gained power control they were able to kill us easier, however we also got stronger. We trained our techniques for decades, but we aren't able to push them back. We failed our mission. All we wanted was to be accepted into the world. Not cause chaos or destruction. I was king during that era, not literally, but I was respected and was the strongest in history. When we spirits die, like myself, we come back after years later and continue with our past plans or make a new plan." Rerin explained calmly, keeping his smile plastered. Billy felt very much disturbed and so did Anby as she had firmly gripped the handle of her sword. Rerin could see the fear in both their eyes, but laughed as he stood up. "Don't worry I won't kill you. I only fight those when they are at their best and bests. Not when they are low and can't fight back. Anyway, this is it for my help. I made a vow to only fight people who they aren't injured or can't fight back. My penalty is that I lose half my strength for a week and I have to help that person in anyway." Rerin said he pushed open the door and left, leaving the two alone inside the shop.

As Rerin walked out and stood outside to stretch he heard the door behind him open. "Thanks for helping, we wish we could repay you in some way, but our group is low on money and funds so we can't give you money. If there anything you want us to help you with, please contact us." Anby said calmly, bowing her head in respect as she headed back inside. Rerin smiled and nodded his head. He then made his journey along the desolate streets of the abandoned area.

Rerin was jumping from building to building when he saw a small group of men dressed in protective clothing come through and look around. "Oh? How interesting." Rerin thought he stoped jumping and stood to watch the armored men. To Rerin it seemed they were here to rescue people and get them to safety. "Very brave and noble men indeed." Rerin thought as he nodded his head slowly. He respected men like that, those willing to risk their lives for others are one the most greatest and respectable people. Rerin watched the men look around and call out, hoping to hear people yell back. It was smart but also dangerous as it attracted attention to them. "Fools." Rerin muttered as he noticed a small human sized Ethereal in the distance. He raised a finger and shot a small purple energy line at the Ethereal. The Erthereal fell onto its knees and turned to ash, leaving nothing left. Suddenly a massive shadow loomed over him and he turned to look, but was then violently struck and sent into a building. Standing tall and ominous with no facial features and a reaper like body, a Thanatos appeared. Just one though, mind you. The men down below saw it and shouted warnings and started to call for backup, but the Thanatos didn't move, like it was waiting for something. Rerin lay in the rumble of the building, amused and surprised. "Teleportation, huh?" Rerin voiced as he rose to his feet in one fell swoop. He didn't expect such a thing but was ready for a deadly battle. "Bring on!" Rerin shouted loudly as he banged his fist against the walls and jumped across, blowing the building he came from into pieces. His hand glowed with purple energy as he slammed it down onto the Thanatos, in which blocked it with its sword. The Thanatos then felt sudden pressure and was sent plunging into the building as it got sliced in half by Rerin's hand-blade. The Thanatos teleport behind Rerin and swung down its sword, striking Rerin but clanging against his body. The Thanatos roars and kicked him down into the ground. It teleported again and fisted Rerin with its hand. Rerin caught the attack and punched back harder, but not cracking the thick shell. "Oh! Your durable! Finally!" Rerin yelled as he kicked the creatures shin, this time cracking the shell. He gave the creature a volley of attacks from various martial arts, some like: Kyokushin, Muay Tai, Jujitsu and Taekwondo. Thanatos had no time to fight back but tried to block most of the attacks. It teleported again, but instead of behind it appeared above Rerin and slammed down its massive sword onto him. Rerin blocked the sword with his forearms. The sound of scrapping steel grinding on metal was loud, Rerin then let the sword drop as he pulled back his fist, stepping with his left foot, and struck the ethereal into the face. A bright, light purplish glow following the attack. The attack shot the created into several different buildings in a straight line. Just the impact of the attack made a crater in the ground. "Since you are unwilling to accept defeat! Then I will use 25% of my strength!" Rerin roared with pure joy as he caught the Thanatos teleporting behind him. His hand just move. Like literally mad a small movement, to the men who were watching it seemed like he just flicked his arm. The Thanatos was instantly flipped inside down and had been hit into the ground. The crater grew wider causing buildings and structures around to shake and tremble. Rerin looked at the Thanatos stuck in the ground and laughed. Then another Thanatos appeared, this time with a red energy flow then the green one he just fought. The green Thanatos pushed itself off the ground and stood up. They both Teleported at different sides and attacked with their swords, but weren't swords Rerin realized. It was their limbs! Their limbs were so sharp that they seemed like swords to Rerin or maybe a scythe? Rerin's grew wider to the point of causing flesh tearing. His body grew in size to match the Thanatos. He gripped the two creatures hands hard and pulled them into each other. They then both kicked him with duo-like synchronized movements. "What a rush!" Rerin exclaimed as he blitzed forward and slammed both their heads into the ground, the ground becoming more and more unstable as it started to crack and break. The thick shells of the Thanatos's began to break and crack, which Rerin started to notice. He grew two more hands under his main pair and the three went on a spree. Blocking, attacking and parring. It repeated over and over again. The impacts soon becoming a slightly tremble in the air. Rerin soon caught one of the creatures off guard and he used his foot to plung the Red Thanatos into the ground while as he caught the green Thanatos and brought its non-existent face into his knee. "This fight was an amazing one, but unfortunately I have business. So this is the end for you two." Rerin said calmly as he coursed energy into his palm and created a small handle with two circles on each end with X marks on them. "You two fought well, but this is goodbye." Rerin muttered softly as he pointed the item at the two Thanatos's. A bright purple light shined down upon the two and evaporated them, their atoms slowly turning into ash, then into nothing but bitter air. Rerin smiled widely and changed back into his normal form. "That was a great battle. I truely felt alive for that very moment." Rerin muttered as small happy tears trickled down his face, despite not having eyes.

"Excuse me, Sir! We are the Public Security Bureau and we are here to assist survivors who may have gotten lost in this Hollow! Do you have an ID to enter this place?" One of the armored men asked Rerin despite the war sung from his colleges. Rerin turned to him and pondered for a moment. There was Anby and Billy, but other than those two he didn't know much. "Yes he does! He is with me, so scram!" A voice yelled across the some ways away from the group. A girl with pink hair and short shorts walked up the the men and showed her ID. The man looked at the ID and nodded his respect. "I'm sorry for being unaware Miss Demara we will leave you to it." The man said as he called orders and the small group started to move away. Nicole then turned to Rerin, who was massive in size compared to normal sized humans, and looked up at him. "You! Tell me where Anby and Billy are!" She ordered with concern. Rerin acquiesced that this girl must be the boss that Billy was talking about, and she seemed rightfully so. Rerin respected leaders who are willing to risk their own lives with their men. It was only right. "Very well, since it's my only repayment for Billy talking a lot." Rerin answered calmly with a wide grin. Tail swing gently from left to right, he didn't know the women nowadays would be this pretty. He mentally shook himself and composed himself. How utterly annoying.

Rerin suddenly swooped up Nicole, who yelped in surpise, and jumped onto a building. He then made his way once again to where Billy and Anby where. He could sense their location as heat from miles away, but the fact that he noticed passing the same lamp pole twice caught pissed himself. "Such trickery, how foul." Rerin murmured as he turned back and jumped across then jumping instantly backwards. That broke the illusion loop and he found himself at landing next to the shop where Billy and Anby were waiting patiently for help to arrive. Rerin dropped off Nicole watch the three have a tearful reunion, not that he cared. "Once again, thank you Rerin." Anby said. "We wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for you, we don't know how to repay you." She added, holding a softly crying Nicole. Rerin thought for a while about what Anby just said, he still hasn't seen the outside world. What lies behind these closed door and this domain? He wants to learn about it. What other skills and tools he could make. Would he be accepted here as a spirit or someone who has feelings. Being born from the fear, joy and pain of War and choas he was ment for battle. A powerful Spirit with great strength and mobility. Yet he never experienced reality to its fullest. That's what he should do is to live and have his own life style. He'll be normal or at least try to be. "I will ask one thing. Help me get accustomed to this world. I don't know what people will think of me when I escape from this place or will I think they will trust me. My appearance isn't exactly normal now is it." Rerin asked calmly. Nicole, who was now done sobbing for joy, smiled sweetly with a cunning stare. "We have just the right people for that part! We'll definitely help you get used to this New Eridu without a hitch." Nicole exclaimed, giving Rerin a knowing look.

The four made it quietly out of the Hollow dome and they sighed in relief, expect for Rerin. "That felt like hours!" Nicole complained loudly, sitting on the ground. "Hey, about what I said ealier. You shouldn't feel discriminated at cause we have Thirens who are animal like. So you should be fine." Nicole huffed out. "Thats great news." Rerin answered bluntly as he looked around the area. It looks secluded and he could see red and blue lights flashing off and on. Must be security or what people call the police. "This place seems to be secluded in some way." Rerin questioned. "Yea, it's an area where a bunch of gangsters called "Red fang gang" live. It's their hideout" Nicole answered, still trying to catch her breath. "I see." Rerin replied softly. He jumped up onto the roof la building and explored the area for a bit. He came across the police people and saw a girl with black-orangish hair and another girl wirh blue hair but with a slightly more revealing attire. Which Rerin was used too cause his skin is his clothing. He looked around and saw a shop, which didn't look abandoned but empty, and zoomed for it. Entering the clothing shop and silently picking out clothes. Hidden from view a girl with two tails was watching from afar, revenge boiling inside her body like a coil spring.

Rerin soon came back to Nicole and the group, wearing white bulky trousers and a robe tied around his waist, plus a black shirt which showed his already obvious 12 pack. "You've got some style I'll give you that." Nicole mused with a smile. Rerin just shrugged, it was normal to wear kimonos during his time so for now this will do. "But… what's with the circular cape around your shoulders?" Nicole asked pointing a finger at the long blue-ish cape that drooped over his shoulders down to his forearms, covering the needle like thorns sticking out from his elbows. "Style I guess." Rerin answered simply. Nicole shrugged, who was she to judge.

Rerin glance around once more, feeling a distant presence. "Sneaky cat." Rerin muttered quietly with a smile. On a roof was a woman with a blue-greenish hair holding a staff-nunchuck like weapon. She was carefully studying Rerin with a keen gaze. "Interesting. A purple lizard with gold."
