Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: The Sorceress’s Silence and the Gourmand’s Lung-Hit

BANG BANG BANG!!

The pebbles Charmcaster scattered didn't just sit there—they swelled instantly into hulking Golemlings, their rocky skins pulsing with jagged purple runes. They let out a gravelly roar and lunged at Tyler.

CRACK!!

Tyler's claws moved so fast they were a silver blur, shredding through the first monster before it could even finish its roar. The stone beast solidified for a fraction of a second before exploding into a cloud of grey dust, reverting back into harmless pebbles.

He didn't stop. Tyler swung his claws in a continuous, violent rhythm, detonating the Golemlings one by one. With every explosion of dust, he took another heavy, predatory step toward the terrified Charmcaster.

"All of them... in seconds..." Charmcaster's eyes were wide with a shock that bordered on madness. She backed against the cold stone wall, her staff trembling as she pointed it at the monster before her. Her lips moved frantically, trying to weave a high-level counter-spell.

"@¥...%¥—"

But her voice cracked. The sheer, primal terror radiating from The Velocity Wraith choked the words in her throat. She couldn't complete a single incantation.

"Got you," Tyler hissed, stopping inches from her face. He raised a clawed hand, looming over her like a reaper.

"AHHHH!!" Charmcaster shrieked, collapsing into a ball in the corner. She scrambled away, hiding behind the still-tied Gwen and sobbing. "Don't kill us! Please, just don't kill us!"

"Hey, Witch," Gwen said, puffing out her chest with a smirk that was half-pride, half-relief. "He's not going to kill me. We're best friends."

Tyler retracted his fangs and gave a jagged, terrifying smile. "That's right."

He sliced through Gwen's ropes with a single flick of a claw. "Gwen, grab your gear. And take hers too."

"No! Please!" Charmcaster reached out, a desperate instinct to save her magical legacy.

Tyler's tail whipped out like a lash, blocking her hand. He leaned in, letting her see every row of his serrated teeth. "She finishes packing, then it's my turn to deal with you. Understand?"

Charmcaster's throat bobbed as she swallowed hard, huddling deeper into the corner. She had never been so close to a predator that looked like it genuinely wanted to eat her soul.

BANG!!

The stairwell door exploded inward. A massive Golemling, triple the size of the others and wearing a shimmering metal wrist-guard, charged through the opening. It tackled Tyler, slamming him through the railing and down to the lower landing.

"The Keystone!" Tyler hissed, realizing the wrist-guard was amplifying the creature's power. He whipped his tail around a banister, swinging himself back up with a violent burst of speed.

"HUNDRED CONSECUTIVE SLASHES!!"

Tyler's claws became a localized hurricane. He struck hundreds of times in a heartbeat, a storm of kinetic energy that didn't just break the Golemling—it disintegrated it. The wall behind the creature was reduced to fine powder, and the banister Tyler had used for leverage was sliced into ribbons of metal.

Tyler knelt among the rubble, reaching for the wrist-guard. "Better this stays with me."

As his claws touched the metal, a wisp of black mist seeped out. The guard became slick, slipping through his fingers like a wet fish and flying back up the stairs into a waiting hand.

"Gwen? Did you learn shadow-casting that fast?" Tyler asked, his voice brightening—then instantly turning to ice.

Standing at the top of the stairs was Hex. He was draped in blood-red robes, two staves in his hands, and a black-bound grimoire floating before his chest. "Long time no see... should I call you the Transforming Brat? Or just another monster for my collection?"

Tyler didn't wait for the monologue. He charged up the stairs, his feet cracking the stone steps.

RUMBLE!

Hex unleashed a blast of wind pressure that slowed Tyler to a crawl, followed by a thick, suffocating black mist. Tyler kept running, but the stairs seemed to stretch into infinity. No matter how fast he moved, he was standing still.

"A spatial loop," Tyler muttered, stopping. "I'm trapped in a ghost-wall."

CLICK!

The Carnitrix dial rotated. Tyler looked down and saw the silhouette of The Fallout-Forge (NRG).

"Seriously, Carnitrix? I can't go nuclear in a closed hallway. You're going to kill everyone!" Tyler growled, manually spinning the dial to a different icon.

A flash of red light.

The black mist in the hallway began to thin—not because it was dissipating, but because it was being inhaled. The Gourmand-Fiend (Upchuck) stood there with all three of his mouths open, sucking in the dark magic as if it were a premium cigar.

Tyler exhaled a cloud of purified air, looking genuinely refreshed. "Top-tier lung hit. That's the good stuff."

"What... what kind of monster are you?!" Hex's face twitched. He slammed his staves together, detonating the ceiling. The resulting blast created a massive hole, and a gust of wind carried Hex, Charmcaster, and the captive Gwen toward the roof.

"NOT HER!" Tyler leaped, his long tongue shooting out like a harpoon. He wrapped it around Gwen's ankle and yanked her down just as the others escaped into the night.

The two fell back into the hallway with a heavy thud.

"It's over, Tyler. They took everything," Gwen whispered, her voice shaking. For a straight-A student, failing this hard was a devastating blow.

"It's not over," Tyler said, standing up and towering over her. "We still have the Archane Grimoire back at the car. Your mana is still yours. They just took some tools—we'll get them back."

Gwen looked at the pebbles on the floor—the seeds of the stone monsters. She reached out and picked one up, a new spark of defiance in her eyes. "The Grimoire has notes on Golem-craft. If I can master the activation spell..."

"Then do it," Tyler encouraged. "Let's see if you can make them scream for a change."

On a distant rooftop, Charmcaster bowed her head, her usual arrogance replaced by a lingering shiver. "Uncle... I was reckless. That creature... it's not like the others."

"It's fine, my niece," Hex chuckled, his eyes fixed on the moon. "When night falls again, we will gather our strength. We will show that 'Alien' why the dark belongs to us."
