As she lunged for the driver's side, Mai Mingle first apologized to Chaisi in her heart.
The two words 'I'm sorry' had barely flashed through her mind before the punch, carrying all her strength, sank deep into Chaisi's lower back.
The punch carried her entire weight, slamming brutally into the muscles of his waist. But the muscles suddenly hardened and swelled, like a stone wall springing up out of nowhere. The impact felt like it was about to shatter the bones in her hand, and she sucked in a sharp breath from the pain.
She was still sucking in that cold breath when a shadow, wrapped in a fierce gust of wind, lunged for her face.
Thankfully, she was already on high alert. Mai Mingle scrambled back, but her legs weren't as nimble as they used to be. She lost her footing and fell flat on her rear—a blessing in disguise, as it allowed her to dodge the fist Chaisi had just swung at her.
