Chapter 1 - Title :She was alive yesterday

---

No one believed Ethan. Not even when he showed them the messages. "Stop it, man… she died last year," Ryan said, his voice shaking. Ethan just stared at his phone. Last seen: Yesterday at 11:47 PM. It all started with a notification—a simple message from a contact he never had the courage to delete: Maya 💙. Ethan's heart stopped. His fingers trembled as he opened it. "You still awake?"

---

Maya. The girl who died in a car accident one year ago. The girl he loved… but never confessed to. The girl he still texted every night, even after she was gone, even though he knew she would never reply. Until now. "This isn't funny," Ethan typed. Seconds passed. Then came the reply: "You always say that when you're scared." That was her line—exact words she used when he avoided serious talks. Ethan felt cold. "Someone's messing with me," he whispered, but deep inside… he knew it didn't feel fake.

---

Days passed, and the messages didn't stop. They talked like nothing had happened, like she was still here. She asked about his day, teased him about his messy room, and even reminded him of things no one else knew. "Ethan, you need to stop," his sister begged. "This isn't healthy." But how could he stop? For the first time in a year… he felt her again. One night he asked, "Where are you?" After a long pause, she replied: "Somewhere between your memories and your guilt."

---

Ethan froze. "What do you mean?" he typed. "You never told me how you felt," came the reply. "Even that night… before the accident." That night. The night everything ended. They had fought. Maya wanted honesty. Ethan chose silence. "I was going to tell you," he typed quickly. "I just needed time." "Time is the one thing we don't always get, Ethan," she replied. Tears blurred his vision. "Then why are you here now?" No reply. For the first time… she went offline.

---

Days passed. No messages. No last seen. Nothing. Ethan drove to the accident site, the place he had avoided for a year. His phone vibrated. "You came." "Maya…?" he whispered, looking around. "You needed to understand something," the message said. "Love isn't about waiting for the perfect moment. It's about saying it before it's too late." Ethan dropped to his knees. "I'm sorry… I'm so sorry…" "I know," came the reply. "That's why I had to come back… just once. To say goodbye properly." The screen flickered. The contact name changed to Unknown Number, then vanished. Ethan sat there broken, but finally at peace… and whispered, "I love you, Maya."
