Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Another Step, Once Again on the Road to the Top of the Food Chain.

The immunosuppressant was indeed a crucial item on the path to becoming a god with the V-Virus; the genetic fragments of the G-Virus were forming rapidly.

Asa let out a long breath. With this, all that remained was the NE-alpha Parasite.

But even after perfectly fusing all the pathogens extracted from Lisa, Asa had no clue how to resolve the abnormal state Lisa was in.

He would just have to take it one step at a time.

The abilities brought about by the G-Virus were as follows:

[Body Sculpting: Bodily cells can rapidly multiply and die according to the host's will, allowing for the directional reconstruction of any limb; the body will not suffer from the random mutations caused by the G-Virus.]

Furthermore, the combination of the Progenitor Virus, T-Virus, and G-Virus caused the "Super-Speed Regeneration" skill to evolve even further, completely eliminating the weaknesses in the brain and heart.

No weaknesses? Why not test it?

After hesitating for a long time, Asa decided against aiming at his own head. Instead, he found a small-caliber pistol and gently pressed the tip of his index finger against the muzzle.

Bang!

The pistol fired, and the bullet went straight through Asa finger.

"Hiss!"

Asa gasped in pain. Looking closely, the tip of his index finger was a bloody mess, and the very top joint had completely vanished!

But very quickly, the flesh and blood at the fingertip converged and intertwined. Within a mere second, the fresh fingertip grew back.

Complete with flesh, bone, skin texture, and nail—it was exactly the same as before!

Invincible!

Asa picked up the severed piece of his finger from the floor and looked around at the blood on the ground. Vaguely, he felt that he could still control the blood and the severed finger in his hand.

With a thought, the blood on the ground and the finger in his hand turned black, eventually transforming into a small piece of charcoal.

The cells inside had completely died and carbonized.

Not bad.

It saved him the trouble of having to come back to retrieve his own flesh after a fierce battle.

Not bad at all.

Even bones can grow back; what else could he do in the future?

A moment later, Asa felt a shiver run through his entire body. He spread his hands, and with a thought, his hands—obeying his will—rapidly transformed into a long, fleshy whip.

However, it was still covered in his skin, looking clean and pale, which made it all the more unsettling.

Asa thought again, and the extended tentacle truly became like a braided whip. Its color shifted to the black and red he remembered—black for his bones, and red for his flesh.

This looked much better; it had that certain flair.

Unfortunately, Asa couldn't truly construct tissue with hardness and toughness exceeding steel like Alex did. At most, he could form bone with the hardness of a skull and shape it into something like a sharp blade.

Bone whip, bone blade, bone hammer—in the end, Asa constructed a layer of bone armor over his entire body.

Bone Armor.

The sharp, menacing white bone armor clung to his body, with both its defensive strength and "cool factor" rising sharply.

Unfortunately, the strength of the bone was still limited against large-caliber firearms. As the saying goes, "stack the thickest armor to take the most painful hits"—this bone armor was best suited for close-quarters combat.

After testing it out, Asa sighed, still feeling like he hadn't had enough.

After fusing several viruses, he was traveling further and further down the path of the non-human.

Also, he was so hungry.

The energy consumed by the constant multiplication and death of cells didn't come from nothing, and Asa felt hungry enough to eat an elephant right now.

Taking some food from the system storage to replenish his energy, Asa turned his gaze to the last, nearly colorless vial. It contained the larva he had cultivated from the mature parasite extracted from Lisa's spinal fluid.

Speaking of this parasite, the Nemesis in the third game's plot only gained a certain level of intelligence after being injected with the parasite larva, which allowed the European branch to implant a control chip into its brain.

The NE-alpha Parasite was originally developed by researchers at the 6th European Laboratory in 1988, officially named "Nemesis."

This type of parasite relies entirely on the host for survival and needs to absorb the T-Virus within the host to live. Therefore, it cannot parasitize normal humans, and they would die rapidly if infected.

Furthermore, once the parasite is fully grown, it takes over the brain and destroys the prefrontal cortex, forming a second brain. This is the reason why B.O.W.s that have accepted the parasite are easier to control.

Is it really okay to inject this?

Asa was a bit worried: would the parasite be compatible with the "Virus Adaptor" ability?

Viruses and parasites are, after all, two completely unrelated things.

Still, there was no harm in trying; parasites and mold could also be considered pathogens.

The NE-alpha Parasite must absorb T-Virus tissue fluid to survive, which gave Asa an idea.

Of course, Asa wouldn't be reckless enough to inject it directly into his own body. He prepared some T-Virus that he had separated and fused from his own body beforehand, then took out a live parasite and placed it into the viral solution.

Upon making contact with the T-Virus, the parasite, like petals blooming from a bud, extended its seven tentacles one by one and began to slowly absorb the T-Virus.

After absorbing a certain amount of the T-Virus, the parasite suddenly twitched, then curled back into a small ball, returning to its larval state.

What was this?

Asa could feel that this NE-alpha Parasite was now completely obedient to his will, just like his own body after fusing with the G-Virus.

"Could it be?"

A wild idea suddenly flashed through Asa mind, and he felt it was worth a try.

Looking around, there were almost no zombies left in the underground laboratory. He sighed softly and had to take the elevator up to find a zombie in the Mansion.

With 16 points in the Body attribute, a zombie was as weak as cardboard in Asa eyes. He easily subdued a researcher zombie, broke its limbs amidst its constant wailing, and tied it face-down onto the experiment table.

Researching others, were you? This time, I'll be the one researching you!

Asa lifted the clothing on its back to reveal the spine.

Beneath the grayish-white skin, Asa injected the parasite into the zombie.

Asa could vaguely feel the parasite crawling upwards, following the nerves to the back of the zombie's brain. Then, without absorbing any of the T-Virus in the zombie, it slowly unfurled, its seven tentacles connecting to the zombie's nerves.

"..."

The struggling zombie stopped wailing and slowly calmed down.

"Hey, wake up?"

Asa gestured in front of it, but the zombie just looked at Asa calmly, then stared blankly at the floor.

He simply put his hand into the zombie's mouth, signaling it to enjoy.

The zombie gagged and spat his hand out.

Was it not interested in him, or was it simply not acting because it lacked his command?

Asa placed his hand back into the zombie's grip and then issued a command in his mind.

"Eat!"

Still no reaction.

The zombie no longer attacked him, but it also wouldn't obey Asa orders. Asa had initially thought he had gained the Veronica Virus's ability to control zombies.

Perhaps, there was actually another way to use it.

"Retreat."

"Pop!"

The instant Asa ordered the parasite to withdraw from the brain, the small larva grew rapidly. Several tentacles drove directly into the zombie's brain, churning it into mush.
