Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: The Arrival of Nemesis

One hour ago, in the underground laboratory of NEST-1, William Birkin, the person in charge of NEST-1.

His laboratory was located in the deep underground, and outside the observation window of the lab was his office.

"William, we have given you enough time."

At this moment, on William's computer screen, a person whose face could not be seen was reprimanding him.

"The progress of the G-Virus is too slow. You tell me that it will actually take another month? Do you know that the T-Virus has completely broken out and infected the entire Raccoon City? It's happening tonight!"

"What?"

Upon hearing this, William's face immediately darkened. He wasn't worried about the future of the residents of Raccoon City, but rather, if the entire city were to fall into ruin, how could he escape while betraying the Umbrella Corporation?

He didn't think that with his own desk-jockey physique, he could make it through a city filled with infected.

"Dr. William, the company is very disappointed in you. You should pack up now and prepare to evacuate."

"Are you going to abandon this city? This is the birthplace of the company."

"So what? With the T-Virus fully unleashed, who can stop it? The company is already prepared to evacuate the United States. Assets were slowly severed from headquarters a month ago, and now there are branch bases on every continent—Africa, Europe, South America, and Antarctica. Abandoning the North American branch is like amputating a necrotic arm; but if we don't amputate, the entire body will die from the infection."

[Severing the tail to survive? I understand.]

William remained silent, as if he had made a certain resolution.

"Also, the company has initiated the cleanup protocol. That officer who dared to announce the company's great operation to the world and her teammates will be the first test subjects! Nemesis has been deployed."

William's pupils constricted slightly.

The Umbrella Corporation European headquarters had actually deployed Nemesis?

The Nemesis project is the modified Tyrant, born from the fusion of the T-003 and the NE-alpha Parasite; it also has another name: Nemesis.

"Calculating the time, Nemesis should be arriving at that officer's location soon, right? This is the price for going against the company!"

The man on the screen let out a cold laugh, implying something, and then with a snap, the video call cut off.

William slid back in his chair, but a smile appeared on his face:

"Another month? Heh, I was lying to you."

In reality, the creation of the G-Virus was only missing the final purification step, but William had been concealing the critical progress, causing headquarters to delay in receiving accurate updates, which led them to gradually lose faith in him.

After all, the G-Virus was William's life's work; how could he possibly hand it over to the head office?

Influenced by his good partner Wesker, William also harbored ulterior motives against the Umbrella Corporation.

Thinking of this, William took out a phone, found a line, and dialed it.

Before the other party could speak, William spoke first:

"Tonight, I can have everything ready tonight."

Without making William wait long, a reply came from the other side of the phone. The other party provided an address in Raccoon City, telling William that as long as he brought the items there later, someone would arrange the rest.

Then the call ended.

After finishing the call, William glanced at the surveillance camera in the control room as if nothing had happened, then shook his head:

"How could that be? The company shouldn't know, otherwise, they wouldn't have just spoken to me."

He hoped it was just his imagination.

However, what William didn't know was that just after he used a certain program, background software hidden in the system suddenly started, sending a signal to a black watch a dozen kilometers away.

The wind had changed.

William then began the purification process. After about an hour and a half of preparation and operation, he looked at the two tubes of liquid in the test tubes, feeling infinitely satisfied.

"Hahahaha, it's done! I've done it!"

The G-Virus sat quietly in the test tube; the violet liquid looked mysterious and noble, very much like the color of the little girl's eyes in that painting.

This color was very familiar, like the colors on that test subject.

William frowned, but quickly stopped thinking about it. It was just an ordinary test subject anyway; even if its body fused with multiple viruses, without intelligence, it was destined to be a failed, defective product.

Next, he would take the G-Virus and fly far away.

Packing the G-Virus, the laboratory's T-Virus stock solution, and the vaccine into a suitcase, William suddenly paused, as if he had forgotten something.

That's right, Annette Birkin and Sherry Birkin!

If William just left like this, what would happen to his wife and child? What kind of inhumane torture would they suffer?

It shouldn't happen; after all, Annette Birkin possessed a genius mind only slightly inferior to William's, so the company shouldn't be willing to let her go. Besides, tonight was a rare opportunity...

William comforted himself this way and quickly decided to start the operation tonight. There was no time to lose!

"Hey, hello there, Dr. William Birkin."

Just at that moment, the door was slammed shut, a figure appeared behind William, and a mocking yet familiar voice rang out.

William turned his head, his pupils constricting.

"Wesker? You're not dead?"

...

After the watch received the signal that William was about to successfully purify the G-Virus stock solution, Asa wasted no time in bidding farewell to Ada Wong and arrived here.

Along the way, the situation seemed to be slowly deteriorating. Asa witnessed many screams from surrounding buildings, as well as figures stumbling onto the main road, acting as if they were high on drugs.

At the same time, Asa also activated his puppet in the government department; after all, Asa couldn't truly let all the residents of Raccoon City turn into infected.

He was prepared to appear before the world as a savior, but not in a dead city, and certainly not in the ruins after a nuclear explosion.

Besides, the payment for the medicine hadn't been paid yet!

"In the face of danger, government officials should be on the front lines, not blindly fleeing, right, Mayor Warren?"

Asa handed the black watch in his hand to Ada; the agent was very interested in this kind of tool for controlling people.

He believed that under the supervision of the watch, Mayor Warren would become a good mayor for Raccoon City.

As for what was said before, "only bother you once, and will never disturb you again"? How could that be possible?

Since they had already become tools, they had to have the awareness of being tools. Using them once or twice was still using them, so they might as well be worked to the bone completely.

Moreover, the chips in the back of Warren and Henry's brains were equipped with positioning systems, and they knew this. Once they tried to escape Raccoon City, the fate awaiting them would still be having their brains blown out.

Arriving at the Raccoon City headquarters, Asa took out his access card without changing his expression, and walked toward the direct elevator to the underground NEST while being watched by security.
