Chapter 2 - The First Evaluation

The practice room was colder than she remembered.

Or maybe it wasn't the room.

Maybe it was her.

Seoryeon stood in line with the other trainees, shoulders tight, fingers curled inside the sleeves of a borrowed hoodie. The air smelled like polished wood floors, sweat, and nervous anticipation.

Everyone around her looked… prepared.

Like they belonged here.

Like they weren't standing one breath away from being erased.

Her system flickered silently in her mind.

MISSION 1: IDOL FOUNDATION]

Complete trainee dance evaluation

Rank requirement: B or higher

Reward: Dance Control Lv.1

Failure consequence: Stat stagnation

She swallowed.

"Easy," she whispered under her breath.

But her voice didn't sound convinced.

The doors opened.

One by one, trainees stepped into the center of the room.

Music played. Sharp. Fast. Unforgiving.

Judges watched without expression.

Some girls came out smiling.

Some came out shaking.

Some didn't smile at all.

Seoryeon watched every single one.

And she noticed something terrifying.

They were good.

Not average. Not beginners.

These were girls who would one day stand on stages she had only ever seen through screens.

TWICE was still in formation somewhere in this timeline… but even now, the air felt like destiny was being selected.

"Seoryeon."

Her name snapped her back.

She stepped forward.

The music started.

And for a moment

Everything went wrong.

Her body moved.

But not cleanly.

Her timing lagged half a beat behind.

Her turn was slightly off.

Her confidence wavered.

She felt it immediately.

"This isn't enough."

A red warning flashed in her vision.

SYSTEM NOTICE:

PERFORMANCE DETECTED: D-LEVEL

ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED

Her stomach dropped.

"No… not again."

Not failure.

Not this early.

Then

Something changed.

[SYSTEM ASSIST ACTIVATED]

Her vision sharpened.

Her body felt lighter.

Like invisible strings were correcting her posture, her rhythm, her breath.

Not controlling her

guiding her.

She moved again.

And this time…

It was clean.

Too clean.

Her steps locked perfectly into the beat. Her turns hit exact angles. Her expression shifted naturally into stage focus she didn't remember learning.

The judges leaned forward slightly.

Just a little.

But she noticed.

Her mind raced.

"This is cheating…"

SYSTEM RESPONSE:

This is survival.

The music ended.

Silence.

She stood still, breathing hard.

The kind of silence after judgment where even blinking feels loud.

A judge finally spoke.

"…Interesting improvement."

Another scribbled something down.

No praise.

No rejection.

Just… observation.

She walked out.

Her legs felt unstable again.

But not from weakness.

From confusion.

In the hallway, she almost collided with someone.

"Ah sorry."

A voice.

Bright. Light. Effortless.

Seoryeon looked up.

A girl with soft features and an easy smile stood in front of her. There was warmth in her eyes, like she didn't believe in heavy air or fear.

"Did you just finish?" the girl asked casually.

Seoryeon nodded.

"…Yeah."

The girl tilted her head slightly, studying her.

Not in a judging way.

In a curious one.

Like she was trying to read something hidden.

Then she smiled again.

"You look like you're thinking too hard."

Seoryeon froze slightly.

"…I always think."

"That's dangerous here," the girl said lightly. "You forget to breathe."

There was something about her tone.

Comforting.

Uninvited.

Familiar in a way that made Seoryeon's chest tighten for no reason.

Behind them, another girl appeared.

Quieter.

Observing.

She didn't speak immediately just looked at Seoryeon for a second longer than necessary.

Not cold.

Not warm.

Just aware.

SYSTEM ALERT:

Key interaction detected

Emotional linkage probability increasing

Seoryeon stepped back slightly.

"I should go."

The bright girl waved a little. "See you around then."

Seoryeon turned away quickly.

But even as she walked, she felt it.

That look.

That moment.

Something had started shifting.

Not loudly.

Not visibly.

But permanently.

And somewhere deep inside her mind, the system displayed a new line:

TWO FUTURE VARIABLES DETECTED

Sana — Emotional Affinity: Rising

Momo — Physical Affinity: Rising

STATUS: UNSTABLE BUT OPTIMAL PATH FOUND

Seoryeon stopped walking for half a second.

"…Sana?"

"…Momo?"

She didn't know why the names felt important yet.

But she knew one thing for sure.

This timeline had already started changing.

And she was the reason.
