Chapter 3 - After the Music Stops

The results were posted that night.

A single sheet of paper on the practice room wall.

Simple.

Unforgiving.

Final.

Seoryeon stood a few steps back, watching the crowd gather before she moved.

No one rushed.

No one spoke too loudly.

Even the most confident trainees seemed… careful.

Because this was the first line drawn.

Her system flickered quietly.

[MISSION 1: COMPLETED]

Rank Achieved: B

Reward: Dance Control Lv.1 — UNLOCKED

A faint warmth spread through her body.

Subtle.

But noticeable.

Her balance felt… steadier.

Her posture more aligned.

Like her body had quietly corrected itself.

She clenched her hand slightly.

"So it's real…"

"Are you going to check or just stand there?"

A voice cut in from behind her.

Calm. Slightly teasing.

Seoryeon turned.

The same girl from earlier the one who had watched her more than she spoke.

Momo.

The name surfaced naturally now, like her mind had already accepted it.

Seoryeon looked back at the board.

"…I will."

She stepped forward.

The list wasn't long.

Names.

Ranks.

A single letter that decided everything for now.

Her eyes scanned quickly.

Skipped over names she didn't recognize.

Then

She found it.

Han Seoryeon — B

Her breath caught slightly.

Not amazing.

Not terrible.

But enough.

Enough to stay.

Relief hit her first.

Then something else.

Pressure.

Because now she had proven something.

And people would start watching.

"B?"

She glanced to the side.

That bright voice again.

Sana.

She leaned slightly closer to look at the list, her shoulder almost brushing Seoryeon's.

"That's good," Sana said easily. "Especially for today."

Seoryeon blinked.

"You saw?"

Sana smiled, like it was obvious.

"You were hard not to notice."

Her chest tightened slightly at that.

Not because of the words.

But because of how casually they were said.

Like it wasn't a big deal.

Like she wasn't a glitch in the system of reality.

Momo stepped up beside them.

She didn't look at Seoryeon first.

She looked at the board.

Then nodded once.

"…You improved."

It wasn't a question.

It was a statement.

Seoryeon hesitated.

"…I tried."

Momo's eyes shifted to her.

Sharp.

Focused.

Like she was replaying the evaluation in her head.

"You were off at the start."

A pause.

"Then you weren't."

Sana tilted her head, amused.

"She's analyzing you already."

Momo ignored her.

Still watching Seoryeon.

"…How?"

The question hit harder than it should have.

Because Seoryeon didn't have a real answer.

Not one she could say out loud.

SYSTEM WARNING:

Disclosure of system functions is prohibited

"I adjusted," Seoryeon said quietly.

It wasn't a lie.

Just not the full truth.

Momo held her gaze for a second longer.

Then nodded again.

"…Do it again next time."

Not praise.

Not doubt.

Just expectation.

Sana smiled wider.

"Looks like you've been accepted."

Seoryeon frowned slightly.

"…Accepted?"

"Yeah," Sana said lightly, stepping back. "She only talks like that to people she thinks are worth watching."

Momo didn't deny it.

Which somehow made it worse.

SYSTEM UPDATE:

Recognition from high-value trainees confirmed

Affinity increase:

Sana — +3

Momo — +2

Seoryeon looked away.

Her thoughts felt… crowded.

Too much happening too fast.

The practice room was quieter now.

Almost empty.

Only the faint sound of music from another room echoed through the halls.

Seoryeon stood in front of the mirror again.

Alone.

[NEW MISSION AVAILABLE]

Improve choreography precision to 85%

Time limit: 3 days

Reward: Rhythm Sync Lv.1

She exhaled slowly.

"…Of course."

No break.

No pause.

Just the next step.

She pressed play.

The same song.

The same routine.

Her body moved.

Better this time.

Cleaner.

But still not perfect.

She repeated it.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Minutes turned into an hour.

Then two.

Her breathing grew heavier.

Her legs started to shake.

Her timing slipped again.

SYSTEM NOTICE:

Fatigue detected

Efficiency decreasing

"I'm fine," she muttered.

But her body disagreed.

The music cut off suddenly.

She froze.

"…What?"

"I turned it off."

She turned.

Momo stood near the speaker.

Arms crossed loosely.

Watching her.

"You're forcing it," Momo said simply.

Seoryeon frowned.

"I need to improve."

"You need to not collapse first."

Silence.

Momo stepped closer.

Not too close.

Just enough.

"Do it again," she said.

Seoryeon blinked.

"…What?"

"From the beginning."

She hesitated.

Then pressed play again.

She started moving.

But this time

Momo moved with her.

Not copying.

Correcting.

Matching her steps, then subtly adjusting them.

Fixing angles.

Timing.

Weight shifts.

"Your turn is too early," Momo said quietly.

"Wait half a beat."

Seoryeon adjusted.

It felt better.

"Your shoulders are stiff."

Momo reached out

Paused

Then lightly tapped her arm.

"Relax here."

Her breath hitched slightly at the contact.

Unexpected.

But not uncomfortable.

They moved again.

Closer this time.

Not touching.

But aware of each other.

The routine ended.

Seoryeon stood still.

Her chest rising and falling.

"…That was different."

Momo nodded once.

"Because you stopped thinking."

That again.

Sana had said something similar.

Before she could respond

The door opened.

"Wow… I leave for a bit and you start practicing without me?"

Sana leaned against the doorway, smiling.

Eyes flicking between them.

Not missing anything.

There was a pause.

A strange one.

Then Sana pushed herself off the door and walked in.

"Do it again," she said lightly.

"But this time, I'm watching."

Seoryeon looked between them.

Something in the air had shifted.

Not dramatic.

Not obvious.

But real.

SYSTEM ALERT:

Multiple key variables present

Emotional synchronization increasing

STATUS: PATH DEVIATION ACCELERATING

Seoryeon swallowed.

Her heart was beating faster now.

And not just from practice.

Because for the first time

It didn't feel like she was just surviving.

It felt like something else was starting.

Something she didn't fully understand yet.
