I opened the car door, completely shutting Ray out. My eyes were locked entirely on Isla.
Why did she look that way? Like what she had seen had broken something inside her?
Did she forget she was the one who pushed me into this madness in the first place? So why was she there making me feel bad?
She murmured something to the guard who had rushed over to cover her with an umbrella, then began walking toward me. I swallowed hard. Seeing her approach with that completely blank, zero-expression facade annoyed me. How could she switch up that fast?
I turned to walk away, but she came to a sudden halt.
"Would you rather I let you walk under the rain?"
Her voice, after weeks of silence, was intoxicating. She closed the remaining distance, stepping into my space and holding the umbrella over me. Her familiar, sharp scent filled my nostrils, instantly making my knees feel weak. She turned slightly toward the car, giving a curt, tight nod to Ray.
