"—You're making me go crazy," her lips rasped against mine.
She pressed her body flush against me. Her mouth was wild, almost desperate, but beneath the heat of her touch, I felt it again—that violent, unyielding tremor running through her frame.
She winced, a sharp intake of air catching in her throat, and I pulled back instantly. When she tried to lean in to recapture my mouth, I gently placed the back of my hand against her lips, stopping her.
"Isla… stop. Look at me."
I cupped her jaw, my thumb skimming the sharp line of her cheekbone.
She let out a ragged exhale and lowered me gently until my feet touched the floor, though her eyes remained dark and fixed on mine. Up close under the foyer light, my stomach plummeted. Faint, reddish burn marks lined the side of her neck, disappearing into her collar, and her lower lip was swollen, split right down the center.
