​It had been three days since the Obsidian Awards, and nothing in my world felt right anymore.

​She was avoiding me, snubbing every single text and call I sent her way. I knew where she was, though. The leg chain had been a good idea after all—a subtle tracker disguised as an apology. I needed to give her time. Time to sit down, process the fallout, and breathe.

Although I had worst to worry about now...

​Outside, a line of white SUVs pulled into the driveway, all bearing foreign license plates.

​It had been stupid of me to avoid my old man for so long, especially after he froze my primary bank accounts. Not that it mattered. I wasn't stupid enough to rely solely on three major accounts monitored by the family network.
