Chapter 9 - Controlling the Sly Fox

Kagami Ren didn't feel that using resurrection as leverage over Raiden Ei and Yae Miko was wrong.

He didn't believe that, without any emotional foundation, he could act like those protagonists in novels who, with a mere display of power, could make any woman—be it human, god, or demon—fall for them instantly.

Especially someone like Raiden Ei. With her rigid personality, having secluded herself in the Plane of Euthymia for centuries and obsessively pursuing eternity, even with the "Teyvat's Number One Romantic" buff, there was no way she would fall in love with him in a short time.

That buff might work on mortal women, or even someone like Yae Miko, but using it to attract a god's love? Impossible. A god's will was far too resolute.

But Kagami Ren didn't mind. He wasn't some deviant. Was there anything wrong with liking the "wives" from his game? Secure the relationship first, then build the emotional connection—what was wrong with that?

As gods, they had all the time in the world. Enough time to witness the changes of ages, the shifting of seas and lands. Enough time to slowly heal the scars in Raiden Ei's heart.

True love would eventually endure.

With that thought, Kagami Ren abruptly felt his mind clear, as if everything had fallen into place.

So now… it was time to start handling that sly fox.

He turned to look at Yae Miko, who was calmly brewing tea beside him.

"Miko, I sensed a wounded soul within the Sacred Sakura," Kagami Ren said lightly. "Raiden Makoto… do you know her?"

"What?" Yae Miko suddenly raised her head, her eyes filled with shock. She thought she had misheard. "Who did you say?"

"Raiden Makoto," Kagami Ren repeated.

"Lady Makoto? The Sacred Sakura?" Yae Miko stood up instantly, her expression trembling with emotion. "You're saying… you felt her presence within the Sacred Sakura?"

"Yeah." Kagami Ren nodded. "Unfortunately, that consciousness is extremely weak—like a flickering candle in the wind. It could dissipate at any moment."

"…"

Yae Miko didn't respond. She rushed outside and placed her hand on the Sacred Sakura, but she couldn't sense the presence she remembered.

Watching her, Kagami Ren fell silent. The tragedies Inazuma had endured were simply too heavy. Nearly all of its top forces had perished, leaving only Raiden Ei and Yae Miko. And Ei had chosen isolation. One could only imagine how lonely Yae Miko had been over these centuries.

After standing beneath the Sacred Sakura for a long time, Yae Miko returned to the room. Looking at Kagami Ren, who was calmly sipping tea, she spoke softly.

"Kagami Ren… you told me this because you have a way to deal with it, don't you?"

"Correct." Kagami Ren nodded. As expected of a smart woman.

"I've just regained the authority over life and death. I went out earlier to test what it could do in Teyvat," Kagami Ren said with a smile. "Fortunately, I can revive any deceased being—even if only a trace of consciousness remains."

As soon as he finished speaking, he could clearly feel Yae Miko's breathing grow uneven.

Then, as if realizing something, she calmed herself and looked at him.

"What do you want? Or rather… what do you want me to do?"

If Kagami Ren brought this up, he must have something in mind. If he wasn't lying, then such power—to revive the dead—was of the highest order. The position of High Priest and a bit of treatment would never be enough in exchange.

If word got out, all of Teyvat would be shaken. Everyone would covet his power.

"What I want is actually very simple." Kagami Ren looked at her calmly, a faint smile forming on his lips.

"You want… me?" Yae Miko raised an eyebrow.

"To be precise—not just you. Also the one in Tenshukaku," Kagami Ren said bluntly. As a god speaking to another extraordinary being, there was no need for roundabout words.

"Heh… quite the appetite you have. As expected of a god," Yae Miko said, clicking her tongue.

"A fair trade requires balance. In return, I can not only revive Raiden Makoto, but also the one you mentioned—Fox Saiguu," Kagami Ren said.

"…That truly is a tempting offer." Yae Miko fell into thought. Truthfully, she was tempted. If Makoto and Saiguu could be revived, then anything she gave in return wouldn't feel like much.

"Then tell me—what about me attracted you?" Yae Miko suddenly asked, looking straight at him. "What makes me worthy of such a 'gift' from a god?"

"I've observed this world for a long time. I must admit—I like beautiful and outstanding women," Kagami Ren said. "You are one. The Raiden Shogun is as well. There are others too."

"My, such praise from a god… how delightful," Yae Miko said with a light laugh, covering her mouth. "But to admit your 'love for many' so directly… how very you, Kagami Ren."

"A graceful lady is naturally pursued by a gentleman. Besides, I'm just a worldly man," Kagami Ren said without concern. Was it wrong to appreciate exceptional women?

"…"

Yae Miko was momentarily speechless. He had actually accepted being called a womanizer without hesitation?

"However, Kagami Ren, if you truly can revive Lady Makoto and Lady Saiguu, then being favored by a god… I suppose I wouldn't mind," Yae Miko said. "But resurrection is beyond anything I can comprehend. How am I supposed to believe you?"

"Then how would you like me to prove it?" Kagami Ren asked.

"You said you can revive Lady Saiguu. If you can do that… then I will be yours," Yae Miko said after a moment of thought, her expression serious.

As for why she chose Saiguu instead of Makoto—Makoto was Kagami Ren's best leverage against Ei. As a considerate fox, how could she disrupt his plan?

"Haha, very well." Kagami Ren nodded. "But after I revive Saiguu, you will honor your words, correct?"

He didn't want her going back on her promise afterward. This fox was cunning—unless necessary, he didn't want to force anything.

"Of course." Yae Miko nodded. Facing a god, she had no intention—or courage—to go back on her word. Besides, Kagami Ren agreeing to revive Saiguu first already showed great respect.

"In that case, I'll begin by reviving Saiguu."

Kagami Ren smiled, quite satisfied. It seemed Yae Miko was easier to handle than expected.

"But first… I need to take you somewhere."
