Chapter 1 - Chapter 1. THE HUNT AND THE RESCUE

Amore raised her gun and aimed at a bird perched on a branch. She pulled the trigger, and the bird was hit. It fell not far away, so she immediately went to look for where it landed.

She didn't find the bird right away, but her eyes suddenly widened at what she saw beneath the tree. It wasn't an animal—it was a person. She rushed over and checked his pulse to see if the man lying on the ground, wounded and battered, was still alive. She looked around cautiously to make sure no one else was there. Realizing they were alone, she immediately helped him up and brought him to her house.

She studied his face closely. He was pale, probably from his injuries and severe hunger, which caused him to lose consciousness.

Amore felt immense pity for his condition, so she immediately called her doctor friend to give the man proper medical attention.

"Dindo, come to my house right now. I have something for you to do," she said. "Hurry up," she ordered her friend.

"Sure," was the short reply. "I am now here, Amore," Dindo said with a grin as he walked towards her. It turned out he was already on his way, and her call was perfectly timed.

"Wow, how are you already here? Did you teleport? Ha?" Amore asked in disbelief. "Come in, I need your help."

She let him inside immediately and guided him to the room where she had placed the man.

They were still outside the door when Dindo asked, "What is this all about?" his face filled with curiosity. "Do you need medical treatment? You seem fine to me?" he asked again, confused.

After a moment, she opened the door. "It's not me, it's him..." she answered, pointing to the unconscious man lying on the bed. "Go ahead and treat him. I'll wait outside," she said, turning to leave, but her friend spoke up.

"Okay. Just prepare fifty thousand pesos. I need money right now," Dindo said casually, assuming she had plenty hidden away.

"Sure, I'll double it. Just make sure that man survives," Amore replied seriously before finally stepping out.

Amore went to the veranda. As soon as she arrived, her phone rang. She answered it even though she had no desire to speak, knowing it was just Regor—the most devilish man in her life, the one who made her existence miserable.

"Hello Regor! What do you want?" she asked sarcastically. "I'm not in the mood to talk to you, especially if you're going to order another hit. I'm sick of it," she added, rolling her eyes in irritation.

"No, it's not about killing someone. I just want you to find someone. Just open your messenger. I'll send the picture to you," he said.

"Okay. I received it. I'll look at it later. Bye," she said after receiving the file.

She didn't look at it yet because she didn't care. She was done killing, or rather, done saving innocent people from being killed by this demon.

Amore took a deep breath to calm her anger. She was about to hang up when Regor interrupted.

"Wait, don't end the call. Find that man, okay?" he told her.

"Why? How much is the price?" she asked sarcastically again.

He cursed loudly before speaking.

"Nothing! You still owe me for letting your last target escape. So I'm not paying you this time," he said angrily over the line.

"Okay, but don't expect me to help you find him. Bye!" She ended the call without letting him respond. She never intended to obey him anyway. Never again!

"You're so annoying, Regor. You can wait forever for my help. No money, no service," she muttered irritably. Out of curiosity, she finally looked at the picture Regor sent.

Her eyes widened in shock as she recognized who was in the photo. It was the very man she was currently helping.

"Damnit!" she muttered. She bit her nails, pacing back and forth anxiously.

She felt like she had lost her mind. She couldn't believe it—this was the man Regor was looking for.

"Hey, where is my fifty thousand pesos?" Dindo asked from behind her.

Amore stopped walking and faced her friend.

"Okay, I've treated him. Here are the prescriptions for the medicine you need to buy," Dindo added.

"Wait a minute, who is he? Is he your boyfriend? Oh, I know you're NBSB (No Boyfriend Since Birth)," Dindo asked teasingly, full of questions.

"What are you talking about? Boyfriend?" she replied, looking annoyed.

"Sorry, just kidding. I know you don't have a boyfriend. Back to the money, where is it?" he asked with a smirk.

She pulled an envelope from her pocket and handed it to him. "Here is one hundred thousand pesos. Where are you planning to use this money anyway?"

Dindo scratched his head and grinned.

"Don't tell me you're just going to use this for gambling or women. You're dead to me, Dindo, if I find out you're just wasting the money I gave you. I don't just pick money off the streets; I work hard for every cent, so don't use it for evil," Amore lectured him, sounding stricter than her own mother.

"It's not like that, Amore. I just need to buy a gift for Britney. I was short on cash right now, so I came to you. I know you can't say no to me," her doctor friend said with a smile.

She knew him well—he was a good and loving doctor. He was also the one who treated her whenever she got hurt, so she could never refuse him. She treated him like a younger brother.

"A gift for Britney? You really love your girlfriend. I think one hundred thousand isn't enough. I know you don't want to embarrass yourself. Let me make it one hundred fifty thousand," she said, pulling out another thick envelope of cash.

Dindo's eyes sparkled as he saw the extra money. "Yey! You really are the best friend ever, Amore. You're such an angel."

"Flattery won't work. It's nothing, I just want Britney to be happy with your gift."

"Absolutely yes, because I'm going to propose to her."

"Really? I'm happy for you, but promise me you won't tell anyone about the man I asked you to treat. If you do, you're dead to me, Dindo," she warned him.

"Sure, you can count on me. I promise not to tell a soul," Dindo assured her.

"Okay, you can go now. Go buy your gift for Britney. Drive safe. Good luck!" she bid him farewell.

"Sure Amore, my one and only best friend. Bye, see you next time," Dindo said and immediately left.

He was happy, having successfully extracted a large amount of money from her. Or perhaps, it was a gift of gratitude.
