Cherreads

Chapter 1 - The Seat Next to You

The classroom wasn't loud.Just… alive.

Soft chatter, chairs moving, pages flipping—ordinary sounds of an ordinary day.

And yet, for you…

Nothing ever felt ordinary here.

Because he was here.

Taehyung.

You sat quietly near the window, sunlight brushing against your face as you flipped open your notebook. You weren't really reading.

You were waiting.

Not for anything big.

Just…

a glimpse.

A laugh.

A moment.

And right on time—

He walked in.

Late.

Of course.

Messy hair, relaxed walk, that effortless presence that made people turn their heads without even realizing.

And beside him—

Minji.

His girlfriend.

Her hand casually wrapped around his arm like it belonged there.

Like he belonged there.

Your chest tightened just a little.

"Stop it."

Jimin's voice broke your thoughts.

He dropped into the seat behind you this time, leaning forward.

"You do this every day," he whispered. "At least be subtle."

"I am subtle," you muttered.

"You're really not."

💜 THE TURNING POINT

"Today, we're changing seating arrangements," the professor announced.

Groans filled the room.

Your heart dropped.

Why?

Because change meant risk.

And risk meant…

him.

"Roll numbers," the professor continued. "Sit accordingly."

You quickly checked the list.

Your number.

Your eyes scanned—

…and stopped.

Seat: Row 2… Seat B.

You looked up.

That was—

No.

No way.

That was right next to—

"Move fast, everyone."

Chairs shuffled. People moved.

You stood slowly, heart beating faster than it should.

And when you reached your seat—

He was already there.

Leaning back, spinning a pen between his fingers.

Taehyung.

He glanced at you.

"Oh."

Just one word.

Like it didn't matter.

Like you didn't matter.

You forced a small nod. "Hi."

"Hey."

Casual.

Normal.

Distant.

You sat down.

Careful. Quiet. Controlled.

But inside?

Nothing was controlled.

💜 MINJI'S REACTION

Minji, who was now sitting a row behind, didn't look happy.

Not even a little.

Her eyes stayed on you longer than necessary.

You noticed.

Of course you did.

You always noticed.

💜 SMALL MOMENT (BUT BIG FOR YOU)

Halfway through the lecture—

Your pen stopped working.

Of course.

You shook it lightly. Nothing.

You sighed under your breath.

Then—

A pen slid onto your desk.

You froze.

Taehyung didn't look at you.

"Use it," he said, eyes still on the board.

That's it.

No expression.

No softness.

Just… that.

You picked it up slowly.

"Thanks."

He hummed lightly.

That was all.

But your heart?

It didn't understand how to stay calm over something so small.

💜 AFTER CLASS

You were packing your bag when Jimin appeared beside you.

"So," he smirked, "seatmates now?"

"Don't start."

"I'm just saying… destiny—"

"Jimin."

"Okay okay," he laughed, raising his hands.

As you turned to leave—

You bumped into someone.

"Watch where you're—"

Minji.

She looked at you, irritation clear on her face.

"Sorry," you said quickly.

She didn't move.

For a second, it felt like she might say something more.

But instead—

She just walked past you, bumping your shoulder slightly harder than necessary.

You stayed still.

Jimin frowned. "She's doing too much."

"It's fine," you said softly.

But it wasn't.

💜 EVENING – HOME

"Y/n, eat properly," your mother said, placing more food on your plate.

"I am, 엄마 (mom)," you smiled softly.

Your father glanced at you. "You seem quiet today."

You shrugged lightly. "Just tired."

Not wrong.

Just incomplete.

After dinner, you sat by your window.

City lights glowing faintly.

Your mind replaying one stupid moment—

"Use it."

Why did that matter so much?

Why him?

Why always him?

💜 LATE NIGHT

You opened your bag to take out your notebook.

And paused.

That pen.

Still there.

His pen.

You stared at it for a long moment.

Then whispered—

"I'll return it tomorrow…"

But deep down?

You didn't want to.
