The entrance ceremony wasn't particularly fun, it was a bit boring. But while I was dying of boredom, I did notice something that took my interest.
The classes were divided in a manner where I became interested in. I saw students from two class on the left side who were calm and composed as for those on the right side which also composed of two classes, there were some who were sleeping and yawning. Our class is on the right side as well, it seems they are as composed as the students on the left side.
As I was looking at the classes I noticed someone to my left, it was that boy from earlier who gave up his seat on the bus, he noticed my gaze and smiled at me. It seems that he's also from Class S, I guess this means he's going to be my classmate.
Thankfully, the ceremony was over, and we were told to go to our respective classrooms.
As I reached the classroom, I opened the door and saw that I wasn't the first one. I started looking for my seat with my nameplate on it and located it to the back next to the window.
As I took my seat, I saw another student sitting beside me and coincidentally it's the same boy from earlier as well.
"Ohh it's you, looks like I'm sitting next to you huh?"
I sighed and replied "It seems so"
The classroom started to fill up and I started observing my class. First person I noticed was a boy who was short with light pink hair, green eyes. He seems like a simple and friendly kid.
Second was a red-haired boy with sharp goldish eyes who was looking around the classroom, possibly observing his new classmates.
There are a lot of students in this class and by my count it seems that there are 18 of us in total. After a few minutes of observing, the bell rang and at the same time, the teacher arrived and walked into the classroom.
"Good morning class, my name is Shigeru Kaito, I usually teach English. I'll be your homeroom teacher for the next 3 years since we are not changing classrooms here." Our sensei seems pretty normal (If you're wondering, this is an original character I made. He's gonna be very important to the plot but I won't spoil anything.)
He has short light-green hair with light-red eyes. He seems pretty enthusiastic despite having a serious look to him.
"It's nice to meet all of you! Before you guys introduce yourselves, I will distribute the written materials with information regarding the school as well as the special rules, I will also provide the admission guides as well." The students from the front pass some of the familiar materials.
If I remember correctly, the school is different from your average high school in Japan in a few ways. Here the students are required to live in dormitories found on school premises except for special cases such as studying abroad. Students aren't allowed contact from the outside the school. Even contact with family, friends, or others are forbidden. Naturally, leaving school grounds without permission is also forbidden. However, the campus is well-equipped with facilities that tend to the needs of students. There's a karaoke spot, cafe, theater, and even a mall. You could say that this school is pretty much comparable to a small city. The campus spreads about 600,000 square meters. So, the campus is quite large compared to most other Japanese high schools.
"Also, I will now hand out your student ID cards. by using these cards, you can access to any facility on the campus, as well as buying goods using points. If you're wondering, yes in this school you don't need physical cash to buy things here, you'll be using points allotted to you. In this school, you can buy anything as long as you have the necessary points."
"Those points are allotted on the first day of each month, one-point, equals one yen."
"And as of now, you are currently allotted 100,000 points for this month."
As he said this, some students were quite shocked by the amount we are given while there are some who looked at it with intrigue especially the person sitting next to me.
"Surprised by the amount? This school evaluates your talents and since all of you have passed the entrance exams which speaks volumes of what you are capable of. However, after graduation, all points will return to this school so there wouldn't be a point in saving it until graduation. You may choose how you would spend your points; you can even transfer points to other students as well"
I looked at the class and they seem to understand everything up to this point.
"So, then any questions?" Shigeru-sensei asked, as I was about to raise my hand, someone already raised their hand.
"Sensei, I have a question" asked the boy with the light-pink hair, sensei with a smile responds back.
"Yes Kei?" he asked
"You said we'll be allotted points every month correct? then how much points are we getting exactly?"
"I'm guessing you figured it out too huh?" the boy with light-brown hair asked
"I guess I might have, I'm sure some of you figured it out as well?" the boy whose name is Kei, asked the whole class. All of us nodded except for a few who may have understood it but not to a greater extent.
"Sorry but I cannot answer such questions. Although I am curious about how this question came up with such a question? but even so, since it seems that most of you are suspicious, does anybody else want to say something?", the boy sitting next to me raised his hand.
"Go ahead, Yuuichi"
"Sensei do you think it's a bit sketchy to give a high school student this much money? I mean this maybe a school created by the government, but this seems a bit too much don't you think?" I saw sensei listen with intrigue to his question while the other students either nodded or silently listening to his words.
"Also sensei, don't you think this might make students a bit spoiled given the amount?"
Sensei chuckled a bit and said, "I'm impressed, it seems the rest of Class S are able to understand as well?"
"Yes" everyone answered
A thought occurred to me, the classes are divided into four, classes A-D. Normally this would be just a simple arrangement however given my observation back at the ceremony. It seems that those that are calm and collected must be Class A and Class D must be a class full of "defects". It made me question how these classes are placed and why there's a fifth class if this school had four.
"Sensei" I raised my hand.
"Yes Ayanokouji?"
"I just want to confirm something, is this school divided by merit?"
Sensei raised an eyebrow and closed his eyes saying, "sorry but I cannot answer that either". This teacher is definitely hiding something here.
"Then how much do you want me to pay for such information?" Everyone stayed silent as sensei looked at me as if he was dumbfounded.
"Oh? and what exactly are you implying Ayanokouji?"
"You said we can buy anything in this school so doesn't that also include any sort of information?" I can tell by Sensei's facial expression that, I must've figured it out, when he meant by anything, he emphasized on the word specifically. It may be hard to notice at first, but it seems he was already giving us a reference.
"I guess you found that out too, alright, I guess I wouldn't mind but I have to deduct some Class Points since this is the first day and I wouldn't want you to waste your Private Points immediately."
"Class Points?"
"I'm sure given how much you've figured everything out quickly, I'm sure there's nothing else for me to explain on this one" said Shigeru-sensei
"Since you're willing to pay even Class Points on your first day, then I can answer at least one of your questions."
"As you probably guess, Class A is obviously at the top while those of Class D are the lowest and considered as "defects"."
"Then what about us? You said something about Class S, so where are we placed? asked the red-haired boy
"Ah yes, so you noticed it, Karma? alright as for Class S, you could say it's a special class only reserved for those who are capable of matching certain criteria's"
"So, this means we fit those criteria's, correct?" asked the boy with black hair but it's not Yuuichi this time.
"Correct Kirigaya, Class S is rarely used since even the most brilliant students weren't able to attain. It's a class that the Chairman himself personally created but almost scrapped the idea entirely since there aren't any students that managed to reach those standards, but since you students are one of the rare cases. I must applaud your achievement in reaching this class. But of course, in this school you will only gain advantages by advancing from class to class."
"Speaking of classes, since you mentioned about advantages, does this mean we have to compete with other classes, and since this school boasts it's incredible 100% employment rate, that means Class A are the only ones that will attain this?" Kei asked
"Indeed Kei, it seems that all of you understood now, are there any other questions? if not then I'll take my leave, you have about 30 minutes before the entrance ceremony starts. I'll see you later Class S." And with that, he left the classroom.
There was a moment of silence for a few minutes until a clap was heard.
*CLAP*
"May I have everybody's attention please?" Everyone in the class looked towards to Kei who took the center.
"I believe we should introduce ourselves first, since we'll be in the same class for the next 3 years. I'll go first then we go to the rest of the front row and so on" he started
"I'm Shinomiya Kei, I excel decently in my studies and previously I was part of a basketball club in my previous school, so I plan on joining the basketball club here, and also, I'm a genius, nice to meet you" looking at Kei, despite his stature and his friendly personality, he has this aura of arrogance in him, given that he just called himself a genius so casually.
"I'm next? alright, my name is Akabane Karma, feel free to call me Karma. People said I'm quite good at both academics and sports, but I think I'm quite strong on the latter, I hope we can get along" Karma huh? despite only asking a single question earlier, it seems he's able to figure things out as well. It might not look like much, but I have a feeling that he could be stronger that he's letting on.
"My name is Shinomiya Kaguya, most of you might be familiar with my surname. I'm mostly good at studies and solving puzzles. it's nice to meet all of you" looking at her, it seems that she has an aura of nobility, maybe she's from a powerful family? and then another thought came to me.
'Shinomiya? I wonder....' as I was about to direct my gaze to Kei, he spoke.
"We have the same surname huh? don't worry I'm definitely not related to you or anything, anyways next please."
"I'm Aru Akise, my hobby usually is playing detective since I want to be a detective in the future, and I think I'm quite intelligent since that's how people see me, it's nice to meet you" It's a short introduction but understandable.
"I'm Houtarou Oreki, nice to meet you" he introduced himself in a lazy manner, seems like a guy who would conserve energy since he looked pretty bored with a face that says "I want to sleep"
"Oh c'mon at least tell us what your hobbies are or something, don't tell me your too lazy to introduce yourself? Karma teased as Kei chuckled a bit.
Oreki sighed, he was a bit reluctant but spoke again "Alright, my motto is "I don't have to do it, I won't. If I have to do it, then make it quick"" Even though he seemed like a person who's disinterested, if he's placed in a class like this then he must be a brilliant person like the others.
"Just call me Sora, I'm a bit of a shut-in since this is actually my first high school that I attended. I like playing games and you could say that I'm clever." His first high school? So, he's never attended high school before and calls himself a shut-in and yet he seems like a confident person who can take on an entire army or something.
"And this right here beside me, is my little sister Shiro. Also, I'll speak for her most of the time since she barely speaks. Despite her looking harmless, she's actually very intelligent and like me, she also good at games. Although we're both great individually but together we are an unstoppable duo collectively known as "Blank", nice to meet you all" So they're siblings it seems but why are they called Blank I wonder?
"I'm Jabami Yumeko, Yumeko is fine. I'm good at playing games and I'm also good at studies. I mostly spend more time on games like poker. Pleasure to meet you" Yumeko seems like your average person, but I have that feeling that she is more than meets the eye.
"I'm next, aren't I? I'm Kirigaya Kazuto. Calling me Kirigaya is fine. I'm a bit average when it comes to studies and sports, but anything related to computers and technology is my specialty, nice to meet you all" Oh? so we have a technician in our class? he might be useful in the future.
"I'm Yuuki Asuna, like almost everyone here, I'm good at my studies. Also, I'm mostly good at cooking, nice to meet everyone" She seems nice girl, she's the type of person that cares for everyone. It's nice to have someone like that in class, also I noticed Kirigaya was smiling wide at her, does he have a crush on her or something?
"Hello! I'm Shirogane Miyuki, it would be preferable to call me Shirogane. I'm pretty good at studying just like everyone else. Pleased to meet you all." He seems pretty average just like some of the others, but his eyes look like he hasn't slept in years. Maybe he lacked sleep in the past?
As I listened, I didn't notice that it was my turn already, I stood up and started introducing myself.
"I'm Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, I'm mostly good at studying and sports, I hope we can all get along, nice to meet you all" I said and sat back down.
"Hello everyone, I'm Katagiri Yuuichi, call me whatever you want. I'm mostly average when it comes to academics, but I hope we can all get along." He seems like a nice person and the type of person that cares for his friends.
"I'm Tatsuya Shiba, just Tatsuya is fine. I'm pretty good at academics and I've been told that I'm an analytical person. I'm also adept in technology as well. Nice to meet you all" Tatsuya doesn't seem to show that much emotion, did something happen to him in the past? I don't need to dwell on it though. He also mentioned that he's good with technology as well, guess this means we have two technicians.
"I'm next? My name is Yagami Light, it is preferable for me that you call me Light. I'm very good at my studies and a bit of sports as well, tennis in particular. Aside from that, I don't have a lot of interests, but I do plan on being a detective in the future." Light seems to be pretty normal. An ordinary student with a clear goal in mind.
"My name is..." he began but for some reason stopped, was he hesitating? He paused a bit before continuing a couple of seconds later.
"My name is Rue Ryuzaki, you may call me Ryuzaki. My interests are sweets and solving crimes. Also, just like Light, I too am proficient in tennis since I was a junior tennis champion. I'm not certain on how useful this particular talent is to this school but it's nice to meet you all" It was odd that he hesitated before saying his name, but I don't think I should think about that any further. Genuinely I can't get a read on him, on the surface level he seems like an odd person and spoke in a flat tone. I can't tell if he was kidding about solving crimes. It seems that Light, Akise, and Ryuzaki have something in common here in terms of wanting to be a detective. I'm guessing those three would make great friends.
"I'm Lamperouge Lelouch, it would be better to call me Lelouch since I'm not comfortable being called Lamperouge. I'm not very adept in sports like some of you class but I play mostly chess games rather than attending any sort of physical sports. Pleased to make your acquaintance." Lelouch's introduction is quite normal but the fact he plays chess caught my intrigue since I also play chess back in the White Room and never lost but I also noticed Sora was smirking and Shiro was tilting her head and looked at Sora. What's got them intrigued?
"I'm Kururugi Suzaku, I may be significantly below in terms of intelligence, but I entered the military at a young age and never experienced going to a normal school before. I am however a bit stronger on the physical side of things thanks to my time in the military. Also, my reason for enrolling in this school is because I was given an order to do so. Nice to meet everyone" he bowed slightly before sitting down. I think I somewhat understand him, he values discipline due to his background and it makes sense that he could be good in terms of his physical abilities with all that military training.
"It looks like that's everyone, anyways since we still have about 15 min, let's chat with one another, discuss a few things" Kirigaya said.
"Good idea, since we do have some time to kill, let's stay for now and discuss some stuff" Kei said as everyone agreed.
As minutes go by with the discussions and planning. We left the classroom since the second entrance ceremony is starting soon. Hopefully, it wouldn't be too boring. There is something to note with the discussion we had, Kei decided that he's going to be the leader of this class. None of us complained or anything, we all agreed including myself given that he explained about his experiences of being a leader and we all voted for him to be the leader. I don't mind him leading us, but I wonder if it's just arrogance on his part or he's this confident, either way it wouldn't be necessary to think about it that much.
