Strikingly similar blue eyes clashed in midair.
“Stay away.”
Sez demanded once more with emphasis,
“Don’t go near him!”
Bern remained silent for a moment and then looked at his half-sister with bloodshot eyes.
“I’ve heard a strange rumor,” he said with a look of disgust, “That you and Rayton have taken a liking to each other.”
“...”
“And that he broke his promise to welcome Carolyn Lygent as his empress because of it!”
Sez offered no response and only glared at Bern.
“Seems like there might be some truth to that rumor, after all.”
Bern wore a contemplative expression, one that Sez recognized all too well. That was the look he assumed when devising ways to inflict greater pain, to be even crueler.
As if proving her guess right, Bern retracted his sword from Rayton with a sneer and slowly began to approach Sez.
“It’s just a matter of order. Whether you go first, or he does.”
