Chapter 79
A lethal glint flared in Luce's eyes. Rather than pulling his tail back, he lashed out with even more brutal force, striking the eagle-beast mid-air.
The creature shrieked, plummeting toward the earth. Euphoria, still caught in its talons, gripped her backpack tightly, her heart leaping into her throat as the ground rushed up to meet them. Before the eagle could recover, Luce lunged again, sinking his teeth deep into the bird's thigh.
The eagle-beast shrieked once more and continued its frantic flight, but Luce refused to let go, allowing himself to be carried high into the sky. With serpentine agility, he coiled his powerful tail around the eagle's neck. Luce's strength was overwhelming; the eagle-beast was quickly strangled and began a terminal descent.
Terrified for Euphoria's safety, Luce adjusted his tail to cushion her, taking the brunt of the impact himself as they slammed into the ground.
