"Does treatin' this whole thing like it never happened mean somethin' different to you? To me it sounded like you wanted nothin' else between us, just a secret that we'd keep to our graves."
Valentina swirled her wine around, staring into the deep red liquid and not giving me an immediate answer as she leaned back, deciding to savor this first sip as much as she could... even if it meant being somewhat insufferable, at least to me.
"It is a bit of a shame you took it that way. I suppose that clears things up a bit for me, and it does make me wonder if there is anything else I have said that you have misunderstood. No, what I meant by that was to keep it a secret... but we could still talk to one another."
That last bit made the wine in my hand so much more appealing, so after taking a long, silent look at Valentina I drained half of the glass to calm myself down a little, though the intense heat that slammed against my tongue stunned me for a few seconds.
