**The Monster You Made**
**Chapter 10: Echoes That Bite**
**Stiles**
Morning light stabbed through the heavy curtains like accusations. I woke with three bodies curled around me and the taste of their blood still on my tongue, but the guilt had sharpened overnight. It no longer drowned me outright. Instead it circled like a shark—flashes of my little sister's laugh cut short by my own fangs, my alpha's final plea that I hadn't even registered as I tore out his heart. *You see, I slaughtered my entire family. I looked at them and saw only weakness.* The old cadence returned in my head, but now it carried real horror. My chest heaved with a breath I didn't need.
The Hollow twisted violently beneath my ribs, sensing weakness. It wanted the gray static back. It wanted me empty again.
I tried to slip out of bed without waking them. Three colored threads immediately flared in protest—gold, crimson, midnight blue—yanking me back down. Hope's arm tightened across my waist. Hayley growled in her sleep. Freya's magic brushed my mind like a cool hand.
"I don't deserve this," I whispered to the ceiling. "I woke up one day a monster and erased everyone who ever mattered. Now I get three mates who call it a gift? I should be rotting somewhere."
The bond answered with a surge of warmth and hunger that made my fangs drop against my will.
**Hope**
I felt the guilt spike through the gold thread before Stiles even spoke. It hit like acid, raw and jagged. The mate bond had forced his humanity back, but it hadn't erased the past. I pressed closer, letting my hybrid warmth bleed into him. Through our connection I caught fragments of his memories—blood on wooden floors, vacant eyes that once held love for him. My heart clenched, but I pushed love back harder.
"You don't get to decide what you deserve anymore," I murmured against his throat, kissing the pulse point that had restarted because of us. "The triple bond chose you. All three of us felt it the second you walked into the compound and started monologuing about boredom and shattered time. We kept it secret. We planned in the library while Klaus raged. Freya, Hayley, and I agreed we would drag you back no matter how dark it got. This is the gift, Stiles. One man carrying three strands because his soul was broken into exactly that many pieces the day he killed his pack without remorse. Let us hold the weight."
I nipped his jaw, letting a little hybrid venom spark pleasure through the bond to counter the guilt. The Hollow recoiled. Good.
**Freya**
Midnight blue magic stirred at my command even before my eyes opened. The Hollow was fighting harder this morning, feeding on Stiles' fresh remorse like fuel. I wove a containment spell through the mate bond, wrapping the ancestral spirit tighter while I slid my hand over his chest. His skin was fever-hot despite being undead.
"I can feel it trying to flip the switch again," I said quietly. My voice carried centuries of seeing monsters try to run from redemption. "It won't succeed. Not while the three of us are linked to you. The bond is stronger than the Hollow now. We sealed it last night—blood, bodies, power. You drank from each of us while we took you apart and put you back together. That memory is in the threads too. Use it."
I kissed him slowly, pouring calm and ancient love down the midnight strand. The mate bond answered instantly, braiding tighter. Through it I felt Hayley waking, her crimson energy rising like a wolf ready to hunt anything that threatened their mate.
**Hayley**
My wolf woke snarling. Crimson thread burned with Stiles' guilt and the Hollow's restless thrashing. I rolled on top of him, straddling his hips, claws pricking his shoulders to ground him. His eyes—ancient, tormented, *alive*—locked on mine. This was the man who had confessed to slaughtering his family without a flicker of emotion on that first night. Now every flicker was there, and it was tearing him open.
"You don't get to spiral alone," I growled, rolling my hips once in deliberate reminder of how we had claimed each other for hours. "We felt the bond snap into place the moment you stood in the courtyard. Three mates. Rare as hell because it takes someone like you—upgraded Original, siphoner, werewolf magic of your own—to need all three of us. We love you. Even the parts that scare us. Especially those parts."
I leaned down and bit his lower lip hard enough to draw blood. The taste of him flooded the closed circuit between us four. Guilt, lust, power, love—all of it mixing until the Hollow screamed and retreated again.
A furious knock rattled the door hard enough to shake the frame.
Klaus's voice boomed through the wood. "Open this door or I tear it off its hinges. We are not finished."
**Stiles**
The interruption should have bored the old me. Now it ignited protective rage that braided with the guilt until I wasn't sure where one ended and the other began. I sat up with all three mates still touching me, the colored threads glowing visibly in the dim room. My power flared—Hollow, werewolf, siphoner, vampire—contained only by their hands on my skin.
I kissed each of them once, hard and claiming. "Stay linked. If I start slipping, pull me back."
We dressed quickly. I opened the door wearing last night's marks and the full weight of my returned humanity. Klaus stood with Elijah and a very tense Kol who must have arrived overnight. All three Originals looked ready for war.
Klaus's gaze raked over my mates—Hope's flushed skin, Freya's glowing runes, Hayley's wolf-gold eyes—and his hybrid face twisted. "You expect me to allow this… perversion? An emotionless killer who ate the Hollow now bonded to the three most important women in this family?"
I stepped forward. The guilt tried to choke me again, but the bond flooded me with their love and hunger. It gave me strength.
"I was emotionless. I woke up one day and became the monster I described to you that first night. I slaughtered everyone I ever loved and felt nothing. The switch was gone. Time shattered. I came here bored out of my mind." My voice stayed steady. "They changed that. The triple mate bond is a gift. It forced my humanity back on. It hurts every second, but they carry it with me. The Hollow is leashed because of them. Hurt them and I will end you, Klaus. Nothing can kill me. I've already tested that theory on my own family."
The standoff stretched. Elijah watched the visible threads of color moving between the four of us. Something in his expression shifted first—calculation becoming reluctant understanding.
Klaus's fists stayed clenched, but he didn't strike. "If the Hollow ever slips its leash because of your guilt, I will put a stake through every heart in this room except yours—so you can watch them die slowly."
Hope, Freya, and Hayley moved to my sides in perfect sync. Their combined scent wrapped around me like armor.
"Then we make sure it never slips," Freya said softly.
The fragile truce hung by a thread. The mate bond pulsed stronger than ever, reminding me I was no longer alone in the gray.
For the first time since the switch flipped, I felt something bigger than guilt.
Hope.
