Chapter 5 - 005 Mutated Era

Chen Wei navigated to the robot section next.

Within this category, there was an array of robots: guard robots, Farm Assistant Robots, All-purpose Robots, and more.

He selected the Farm Assistant Robot, priced at 500 exchange points each.

With 1350 points remaining, Chen Wei didn't hesitate to redeem two Farm Assistant Robots.

The transaction went through, and two yellowish robots materialized in his personal storage. He retrieved them, and there stood two robots, roughly his height, constructed from an unknown yellow metal.

The system promptly activated them: "Operating system ready. Awaiting your commands, Master."

Chen Wei instructed, "You two, come with me and help plant these seeds."

The Farm Assistant Robots responded, "Understood, Master!"

The addition of the Farm Assistant Robots made Chen Wei's planting process several times faster. Despite having ten bags of seeds, the task only took him twenty minutes.

"Use the acceleration potion!" Chen Wei commanded.

Each bag of seeds required one bottle of the crop acceleration potion, adding up to ten bottles for all ten bags.

[Congratulations to the Host: You have successfully used the standard crop acceleration potion, doubling the growth speed of your crops!]

Content with his work, Chen Wei dusted off his hands with a sense of fulfillment.

He then reopened the system store to browse for other necessary items.

With 350 exchange points left, he wondered if he could afford anything else.

In the potion category, Chen Wei's attention was first drawn to the cancer treatment potion. But the price tag made his heart sink—a single vial cost 1,000 exchange points.

Considering the 350 points he had left, Chen Wei resolved to make the purchase immediately after his next harvest.

He wasn't one to fret over what he didn't have. Now, with the help of the Farm Assistant Robots, productivity was bound to soar.

Curious, Chen Wei inquired, "System, is there a more potent acceleration potion available?"

The system answered, "The Host may opt for either the advanced or the rare level acceleration potion."

"The advanced potion will quintuple the crop's growth rate," the system explained.

"And the rare potion," the system added, "will increase it tenfold."

"Ten times?!"

Chen Wei was stunned when he heard about the tenfold growth rate. He quickly accessed the system store and located the two types of potions.

Advanced Acceleration Potion: 500 exchange points.

Rare Acceleration Potion: 5000 exchange points.

Seeing the steep prices, Chen Wei sheepishly exited the store interface. The regular acceleration potions were a mere 50 exchange points each, but the advanced version was ten times that, and the rare version a staggering hundredfold increase.

He needed to conserve exchange points for the cancer-curing medicine.

"Never mind, I'll just get seeds. I can have the Farm's Assistant Robot handle the planting."

After some deliberation, Chen Wei decided he had to utilize his exchange points efficiently, but without finding anything else appropriately priced, he settled for seeds and acceleration potions.

Ultimately, Chen Wei exchanged for three bags of potato seeds and three bottles of acceleration potion.

That left him with a mere 50 points.

"It's really not enough."

Chen Wei sighed in resignation as he looked at his dwindling exchange point balance, then headed home.

Whenever he had a moment to spare, Chen Wei, not typically one for television, would sit down to catch up on the latest news.

He needed to stay informed about the changes in his living environment to ensure the safety of both himself and his sister.

He remained glued to the screen until past nine in the evening.

After an afternoon of news, he had a clearer picture of the situation. The transformation was not limited to Handon Country; the entire planet had undergone drastic changes.

The emergence of the Blood Moon had released a toxic substance into the atmosphere, triggering a catastrophic shift in Earth's environment.

Humanity was decimated, with less than thirty percent surviving.

Chen Wei glanced at the death toll on the screen. It had soared from 13 million to a staggering 300 million.

And that was just in Handon.

Globally, by Handon's population metrics, at least one billion people had perished from the toxin.

Yet, there's a flip side to everything.

While many perished, some underwent mutations. Most of these individuals lost their sanity and suffered physical decay, but a few retained their human form and function.

At the same time, they gained a variety of peculiar abilities. Some sprouted wings, soaring through the skies, while others experienced a sudden surge in strength, strong enough to uproot trees. There were individuals who could manipulate fire, and many more with an array of bizarre powers. In short, the number of people who had awakened abilities was significant. Consequently, Earth had entered an era of mutation.

Yet, a greater crisis loomed: the population of mutated plants and animals vastly outnumbered humans. Worse still, the majority of mutated humans had undergone failed transformations, losing their sanity and turning into monsters. Some of the mutated beasts and plants appeared to have developed intelligence, hunting down the few human survivors.

In response, many nations had resorted to militarized governance.

"Brother, MeiMei is hungry," the little girl's voice broke the silence, snapping Chen Wei back to the present. He suddenly realized it was already past nine in the evening, and he hadn't prepared dinner.

"I'm sorry, MeiMei. I'll start cooking right away. What would you like to eat?" Chen Wei asked, gently patting the little girl's head with a note of apology in his voice.

"MeiMei saw that we still have potatoes at home," the little girl said, her bright eyes blinking up at him.

"Okay, I'll make some potatoes for MeiMei. This time, let's try something different and make shredded potato strips," Chen Wei said with a smile.

After enjoying dinner with MeiMei, the clock had nearly struck ten.

"Ding!"

[Your super farm's premium cabbage is ready for harvest. Please proceed to the field!]

[Your super farm's premium sweet potatoes are ready for harvest. Please proceed to the field!] …

Armed with two Farm Assistant Robots, Chen Wei headed to the fields and began the harvest. As he worked, the system continued to chime in his mind.

[Your super farm's premium corn is ready for harvest. Please proceed to the field!]

Meanwhile, MeiMei scampered out to the yard, her small hands gripping the fence as her curious eyes followed the farm robots' every move.
