The hospital hallway was quiet as the workday drew to a close. Most of the onlookers were hospital colleagues.
But when they saw Sebastian Lockwood's expression darken, they all froze.
He might have been difficult to approach on a normal day, but he was well-known for his refined manners and composure. At Keston First Municipal Hospital, at least, no one had ever seen him lose his temper, not even with the most difficult patients.
Mindy Caldwell, who had been screaming just moments before, was now stunned into silence by his gaze.
She thought the man in front of her looked vaguely familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before, but she couldn't for the life of her recall where.
"Are you okay?" Sebastian Lockwood asked, turning to Sydney Sawyer, his voice gentle.
"I'm fine."
"Are you hurt?"
"I..."
Just as Sydney Sawyer was about to speak, Mindy Caldwell cut her off, furious and flustered.
