AUTHOR'S POV
Lucas, the Beta wolf of the Grayback Clan, was enveloped with fear as they fight against a lycan twice their size. With adrenaline rushing in his veins, he swiftly shunned the sudden attacks of the beast who ran amuck in the woods. The monstrous colossal growled as he flex his entire black hairy body, grunting fiercely with blood dripping from its mouth. The lightning that flashed from the sky gave him a partial view of its rage and fury. Cory simultaneously pounced its claws with Lucas on the lycan, biting its tough skin which seemed impenetrable. The two rapidly moved back and attacked forth trying to sink their teeth rabidly anywhere on the lycan, trying to find its weakness.
'Why didn't we have silver when we need it?', Cory groaned. When he was about to attack again, he ended up flying a couple of yards with one single punch on his abdomen, breaking five adult trees as he flew away.
"Cory!!", Lucas dodged the combination of kicks and punches released by the lycan. He managed to sneak on its rear, as he bite its nape as hard as he could, before he was grabbed on his back and thrown away hitting a boulder losing his consciousness.
With the blaze of lightning, and raging sound of the thunder, the lycan clamber up a tree and howled for more blood. Hearing the monstrous and menacing rumbles that echoed in the dark, Sebastian gulped a lump of fear and prayed for tons of courage as he stop and waited for the beast to come his way. Roman and Gunner run past him as he stood under the light rain. He felt like he just had to stay to give more time for Diana and Damon to escape, also, hoping they'd find Scott along the way. The Alpha of the Black Creek Clan signaled Gunner to back up Sebastian for the brave act that he intend to do. Of course, still all for their Luna. Roman went on to track his Luna whose scent he can no longer sense.
In a matter of seconds, Sebastian and Gunner faced danger as the lycan snarled his way to the feeble wolves. In every flash of the lightning, the ravage beast come even more closer. It was faster, madder and more savage as it ferociously run amok. Sebastian's frail body received unbearable hits, until he cough blood. Gunner was able to duck, leap and dive at the lycan's every strike. When he was about to get even, he was captured by the lycan with both of its hands shaking him violently like a pepper box.
Sebastian jumped on the lycan's back, buried his claws on its hard skin and bit him several times to let go of Gunner. When the lycan released Gunner, it grabbed hold of Sebastian and threw him away landing on a field of blue-purple flowers. The lycan slowly prowled after Sebastian, in pursuit of its menial prey. The low growls sent every fur on Sebastian stand as he stay buried, sinking himself deep in the thick bed of the perennial plants.
Then, it stopped on the natural winding line of Sebastian's practical sanctuary. Suddenly the lycan clawed its nose, scratching its velvety muzzle. It backed away and whined at the scent of the flowers. Sebastian looked around and saw wolfsbane blooming from where he landed. He gave out a long sigh with how he fortunately cheated death. 'Flowers really suit me well', he thought.
Gunner took his precious time to he wake up from his senses after being shaken up. Seeing the lycan whining and brushing its face with its hands and arms, Gunner crouched down and crawled behind the lycan's leg biting its flank with all his might. Rolling in the field of wolfsbane capturing the flower's toxicity, Sebastian took this opportunity to jump on the face of the lycan to irritate it more with its deadly floral scent. The beast then fell on its back seemingly gasping like running out of air to breathe.
Sebastian then shifted to his human form, grabbed a sharp-edged log and quickly stabbed the lycan's chest. As the beast wail in pain, the lycan scratched Sebastian's leg with its sharp deadly claws before the latter was able to move away. Sebastian cried out in immense pain, as he crawl back from the temporarily subdued beast.
Gunner, who shifted back to his human form too, helped Sebastian get up. He winced at the awful sight of Sebastian's leg, being badly sliced up from the deadly claw of the lycan. "That was cool, man. Let's go fast, before he get back up", Gunner said, as he put Sebastian's arm over his shoulders.
The two went on their way to runoff, when their path was gradually covered with a large shadow of the beast. Getting closer, the lycan breathes heavily with steam coming off its nose. Gunner held Sebastian tightly and leaped as high and as far as he could, giving the lycan another good chase across the forest. However, after a few swerves, the beast took them by surprise clobbering them both knocking them out. Once again, the lycan's growls conquered the dark forest making the birds shake like leaves as they flew out.
The rain drizzled a little more, and the wind whistled as it blew. Terribly soaked from the torrential rain, Diana shivered from the biting cold. Damon's speed makes the unforgiving cold bite her skin even more like sharp ice stabbing her. With shuddering bursts as she struggle to steady her breathing, Damon felt the urge to pause for a while before Diana succumb to hypothermia.
Damon took exhausted breaths, until he finally slowed down to take a rest. They stopped at a dark tiny cave, and stayed hidden. Diana jumped down on her squelching shoes, and went in with her arms folded. "Let's rest for a while, Luna", Damon breathlessly said as he shifted to his human form, checking the cave for any trouble.
"That wasn't just a wolf, was it?", she asked, as she remove her denim jacket and tossed it to Damon, worried that Damon might be feeling cold too despite her teeth knocking together, enduring the slicing cold.
Damon blushed at Diana's thoughtful gesture, tying the jacket around his waist. "No, it's a Lycan, Luna", he answered as he cleared his throat. He looked around to find anything useful to at least make a fire.
"A lycan? What's that?", she curiously asked standing at the mouth of the cave looking directly at the blood moon partially hiding behind the thick clouds.
"Slaves of the moon. They're practically rabid beasts... bigger, stronger, faster and smarter than wolves or werewolves.", he explained, finding some dry wood sticks preparing the fire.
"I thought.. nagualli are the only ones who have yellow eyes", she said, who remembered quite vividly how its eyes glowed in yellow hues in the dark.
"Yea, that one is cursed. Lycans usually have electric blue eyes. The one we saw tonight has a pair of golden yellow eyes, means it's cursed by a nagual.", he said. "I never thought we'll have a smart Luna", Damon smiled for the first time, as he went on making fire.
"Hmm..", Diana smiled back at Damon. "It's quiet. I think we should go back now", she said.
"Sometimes, the silence in the forest means danger.", he wanred, as he glance through the dark trees. Damon saw agony drawn all over Diana's face. "Don't worry too much, Luna. The pack can protect themselves, so can Alpha", he reassured, as a tiny spark lit his dry wood. Blowing slowly through his pursed lips, the fire grew even more.
"I'm not doubting his capabilities.. I'm worried where he might've gone to.. he doesn't just disappear without telling me", Diana sighed as she sat down near the fire. As she hit the floor, she winced at the silver dagger that she tied around her thigh. When she found Scott's note earlier, she was told that she should bring the dagger tonight just in case of any danger.
"Scott is the strongest wolf among all of us. He can beat anyone beyond our strengths", he explained. "He's a great leader, you know? Despite being an adopted son, he's the most favored one because he's an Alpha. He is bound to make great and wonderful things that could bring honor to the clan. Sebastian, even though he's the only legitimate son of the Devlins, he's casted aside to make way for the clan's Alpha.", Damon sighed as he looked down. "But! Don't get me wrong, we-we we're not insecure or something", he cleared.
"Wait.. Only legitimate? You mean..", Diana asked, squinting her eyes.
"Yea, we're adopted too. Priscilla had a hard time conceiving. After giving birth to Sebastian, it was impossible for them to make more children. So they decided to adopt", he added.
"You are all lucky to have such great family", Diana said.
"Yes we are.. I'm glad we found each other.", he bit his lower lip. "You seem like a good person yourself too Luna.", he breathe sharply at the Luna he's starting to admire.
Diana didn't reply, and just stared blankly out in the dark. She then took out the silver dagger from her thigh to make her sit comfortably, staring at it as she lifted it up. "Lycans calm down when the moon shifts farther. Keep that with you, they're afraid of silver.", smiling at the Luna as he glanced at the moon. "We can look for Scott by then", Damon said. Just when they started to get warmer and cozier at the cave, the two were alarmed with the sudden rustling of the grass. Damon stood on alert as he hurriedly stomp on the fire with his foot. Handing the denim jacket to Diana, he walked slowly closer to her watching out for any incoming being. "Stay back, Luna", Damon whispered.
Diana backed away slowly inside the cave, wearing the jacket. Putting back the dagger in her thigh, she held her breath in fear that if the beast comes in, there will be no other way out. Hugging herself behind Damon, she gasped when someone grabbed her from behind.
