DIANA'S POV
All else seemed to pause that every vampire's head turned to me, as my warm blood drip down my arm. It was enough to distract the vampires, and give the wolves a chance to gain a great advantage. A sharp exhale escaped my parted lips, as I walk on a tightrope. The useless girl in the midst of the chaos suddenly turned a savior. My eyes returned to the vampire before me. He gave me a smile. Not wide. Not wild. But, certain. My knees threatened to unfold as I step back. He gazed at me with his terrifying wide eyes, looking hypnotized with the smell and sight of my blood. I looked at the wolves around me and their claws are rammed beating off the vampires. The red wolf whom I helped is still recuperating from his injuries. Roman had his paws busy with Calvin. Protection indeed has limits. At that moment, I realized I became an unlucky savior opposed to a vampire without a victorious possibility.
I took a deep breath and held my bleeding arm up. Instead of running away, I remained standing in front of the deadliest predator hungry for my blood. With high hopes, strong desires and breath shaking, I faced him hoping my plan would work. The sky rumbled as the gusty winds flew across my frail body. Every roar made my heart leap, every second that counted made it closer to my demise.
In one smooth move, the vampire disappeared from my sight and instantly showed itself in front of me snatching my bleeding arm along with the heavy rain that started to fall. I tried to free myself from his iron-tight grip, as the cold-blooded predator sniff my dripping blood.
"Diana!!", I heard Calvin shouted my name while Roman pins him on the large puddles of water on the ground. The roaring thunder made my heart pound even more, as I breathe heavily under the cold downpour.
In an instant, the vampire latched on my open wound and sucked my blood like a starving leech. In my mind, I was screaming and wriggling, but in reality, my voice didn't came out and my body stood stiff. This is not a good plan at all, I thought. I was already feeling a little dizzy when all of a sudden, the vampire's grip loosened that he instantly pushed me down to the ground as he started to choke on my blood. His body convulsed under the rain while I sit there and watch. Then, he fell on his knees and held his throat with both of his hands. His fangs retracted, and the red glow in his eyes was gone. Next, he collapsed on the wet ground, breathing heavily until a different man took its place.
It worked.
Highly strung, the vampire before us shook his head in disbelief as he place his hand on his chest as if feeling his heart beat. "What did you do to me?!", he asked furiously, shoulders tight.
"You're a… a human for a while", I answered with my lips trembling in the cold rain. The red wolf made an impression of sensing the vampire in front of us. Even the other growling wolves turned their gazes for a short while on the vampire who now seemed like a human.
Holding my wounded arm, I shifted my gaze on the other wolves where each of them were continuously attacking and pouncing their fierce opponents with their claws. The red wolf whom I saved walked up to me, shielding his body against the now human vampire. Clinging on its fur, we both stared at the vampire closely. The red wolf was about to pounce when I blurted out, "Stop! He's changed", I told him, putting him into a halt.
The flashes of lightning didn't stopped the wolves to continue the clash. Roman and Calvin traded more blows, giving no signs of conceding. Eventually, the wolves took the upper hand. And with one massive and fatal hit, a couple of vampires turned into ashes vanishing in the rain after their heads got cut off and limbs torn apart. Roman snapped Calvin's leg, as the latter backed away looking defeated together with one last vampire along side of him. Calvin receded, accepting the loss. Instead of coming at him, Roman chose to come to me after hearing a short howl from the red wolf that have come close to me.
Now outnumbered by the wolves, I heard Calvin say, "I will be back for you Diana, like I always do". He squinted his eyes as they depart swiftly, leaving the human-like vampire who's trembling in fear. Probably, his vulnerability of being temporarily human makes him an exes baggage - weaker and slower. They might've thought that he's good as dead with the wolves.
Wet and shivering, I rested all my weight on the red wolf beside me. Did the vampire drank so much of my blood? I deeply sighed as I clutch on my drenched clothes looking down on my wobbly knees. "Since when did I got myself in the world of wolves and vampires?", I whispered. I rubbed my neck as my eyes feel heavier. Roman shape shifted back to his human form before me, as his gentle and warm hands grab my cheeks. He had this look in his eyes which seemed softer, that I cannot tell if it's fear or worry. He then held my waist close to him, pulling me away from the red wolf. As he held my wounded arm up he asked, "Are you okay, Luna? How could you do this!". The rain seemed to have swallowed his words that I could hardly hear the rest of everything his just said. I tried to smile, though I was not sure if I did. His face tightened, and his eyes looked more intense. All of a sudden, , I held his cheek as I say, " I think... something's on my neck". I flinched hearing a loud thunder, then his face started to get blurry until everything went black.
Hours flew by and I woke up under the thick black covers of a big bed in a cramped space surrounded by rectangular curved edges top-tinged curtained windows. The ceiling is too low, like it is within my reach. The walls were close enough that if roll on one side, I'd hit head. Realizing my clothes were changed to a black button down shirt, and my skin have been cleaned... not to mention moisturized with something that smell of lavender and patchouli, a sudden rush of reticence struck me... warming my cheeks.
Slowly, I sat up realized that I'm in a camper van. It was warmly lit with an amber glow light embracing the dark surfaces of the all-black interior of the mobile home. Right by the foot of the bed, Roman in a black shirt and blue denim jeans sits with his hands folded on his chest and head bobbing down. His straightened legs block the steep way out of the bed, like security guarding the door. A few strands of his thick hair with a blend of brown and red hues covered his eyes. He's sleeping, I suppose. Looking closely, he wasn't much of an indecent looking man. His lashes were long, his pretty nose is upturned. I do remember the sharp canines that he flashes when he smirks. And those broad shoulders, and tough looking ripped muscles. I'm sure many women falls for this kind of guy.
I rubbed my neck as I don't feel the pricking pain anymore. My arm have already healed as well. Despite my head is still spinning, I forced myself to walk out avoiding waking Roman up. Shifting my weight and as quiet as I can be, I crawled over Roman's legs carefully. I hesitated when he made a sudden move, making himself comfortable against the window. And then, I started moving again. Trying my best not to dip so much on the bed, I was standing on all fours about to go across Roman's legs. As my other foot about to land on the floor, the door upfront of the camper van was thrown wide and an old woman appeared out of nowhere seeing me in a very awkward position on top of Roman. "Good eveni--- Oh! I am sorry!!", she gasped, with her fingers covering her eyes.
In perfect timing, Roman was awakened by her loud voice. Seeing me on top of him, his ears turned scarlet as he look away. He cleared his throat, as I watch his throat go up and down. Looking at myself, I realized that I just gave him a clear view of my chest from my loose shirt. Hurriedly, I hopped out of the bed trying to gain a little pride from of such embarrassment. However, my legs betrayed me that my knees folded as soon as I landed on the floor.
Roman was too quick on his reflexes that he caught me on time. "You shouldn't stand up yet, Luna. You have to regain your strength first".
"I'm totally fine Roman, please don't worry about me.", I replied removing his arm around my waist. I turned to the old woman who's still standing by the door. "Please do not misunderstand, I was just trying to get out of bed without waking Roman".
"Oh! Of course it's normal for imprinted couples to get excited all the time", she cheerfully said as she shut the door behind her. "Come along, dear! The food is ready.", the old lady said.
Imprinted.
There goes that word again. They say Roman imprinted on me too. Suddenly, my cage got smaller. Another attention I unnecessarily gained without me even trying to get one. While I stagger on my short way to the dinette up ahead, Roman held me on my waist as he led me out. "Uhh.. so where are we? And… what happened?", I asked, as I sat down in the inner black leather cushioned lounge of the dinette.
"We're here in my camper van, in our town.", Roman said, as he serve me a glass of water. He took turns with the old lady as they look after me like a sick person. "You passed out after the vampires left.. One of them marked you on your neck.. something bloodsuckers do so they can track their prey", Roman said casually before sitting down on a chair beside me.
"What??", I shockingly replied while I touch my neck. So, that's what Calvin did. That son of a bitch. "So... how do we unmark it?", I asked, feeling a lump stuck in my throat.
Roman kept his lips tight, until the old lady sat down with us and explained, "You need to mate Luna. So you can remove the mark left by the vampire on you.. Alpha Roman imprinted on you.. So I guess… Well you know what I mean.".
"Mate??", I gazed at the two who stared back at me blankly.
MATE?! I'd rather be hunted by vampires than to mate with Roman. Besides, how could they casually ask someone to 'mate' making it look like a coffee invite or a movie date? Biting my lips, I wondered if I just let Calvin track me until I get back with Scott. The torment killed me, with a thought that the vampires might already be out there waiting for me.
Then suddenly, the old lady bursted out laughing. At the same time, Roman slapped the table shaking his head side to side."I'm sorry Alpha!! I cannot trick the Luna that way!! I was just kidding, Luna", she said, as she roar in laughter.
"I told you to keep a straight face!!", Roman said, as he roll his eyes at the old lady.
"Luna, I'm sorry. Alpha Roman is just being naughty. The truth is there's a tracker scent planted on you. But that has been long gone after the herbs were applied on the puncture site on your neck. The silly Alpha convinced me to ride on his crazy jokes", she said.
"Ahh.. I see..", I forced a smile. That wasn't really a good job. For a second, I thought I'd be served as dinner on Calvin's buffet table.
"Well.. did you consider? I can definitely help you Luna", Roman teasingly said.
I don't want be rude to the man who saved my life several times. But, I need to draw a line so he wouldn't dare cross. "Not a single thought", I said.
Roman just laughed it off. "Anyway, Luna.. this is Kristia, my house maiden. Kristia, this is Diana, my Luna", he said, as I look steadily at the old woman.
"Kristia…", I uttered.
