Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 – “Don’t misunderstand.”

[Fiona's POV]

I couldn't stop the tears from rolling violently. I know they didn't deserve to see me broken. I remember refusing to cry and begging for their mercy when they dropped me off on a dangerous street.

When my parents died, my aunt and uncle took over very quickly and by the looks of it, it seemed our family was going to be okay. But that was only a facade, a mirage, an illusion that only lasted for two months.

The moment life insurance paid up, everything broke; they started telling people how my parents left no money for them to raise me and how unruly I was.

They spread rumors that way, they wouldn't be faulted for abandoning me, all while eating my parents' hard-earned money.

How dare they even come close to me and act as if they cared? They didn't mind dropping off a girl child in a dangerous neighborhood in the middle of the night. A defenseless child who has just lost her whole world.

I cry loudly as Heath continues to comfort me, not asking too many questions or even trying to play devil's advocate, just holding and letting me be.

I could feel how angry he was with me by just his body language. "You'd make a good husband," I teased him. He looks at me, still angry, but his anger melts away as his eyes meet mine.

"Are you proposing to me, Fiona Lennon? Because I guarantee you there will be no take-backs," he teases, wiping the snort off my nose. Yeah, gross, I get it.

"You would love it if I proposed to you, wouldn't you?" I joked, snuggling closer into his chest; he nodded yes before smiling at me.

"Let us stay in today. I will read you a good book. Oh, I have an even better idea." He doesn't wait for my response; instead, he runs to his cupboard before taking out that awful game we played before.

"Ugh... do we really have to drink?" I grumble, and he just rolls his eyes.

"Come on, get your fat *ss off the bed and get down here and play this great game, you still haven't won that mustang you loved so much," he taunted.

"You don't want to ask about my aunt and uncle?"

"You will tell me when you are ready to tell me. I already have the basic story: they stole your inheritance and abandoned you," he says, "why give them the power to be part of our honeymoon phase chats?"

I chuckle before quickly going to his perfectly laid out pillow, "You pick first, and we skip everything that has to do with exes," he says before pouting. I know he is trying not to get Carl anywhere near us.

"Okay, fine, and I will fill you in on the family drama, since you have already filled me in on yours."

"Am I going to do even more than I already do?" I shrugged before picking up the card. I am sure he is going to want to kill them after tonight, but hopefully the game soothes him a little.

Thinking about the way they abandoned me and didn't even circle back to take me with them hurts. Luckily, I was communicating with Selby, and she was able to get her parents to pick me up before anything bad happened to me.

"Ugh…... I will get you a lawyer the moment we get home. I'll make sure they squeeze the life out of them enough to keep them alive and hard enough to hear their bones break," Heath says vengefully.

"You sound like some mafia boss," I teased.

"Is that what you are into? That is why the rich playboy schtick didn't work, because you are into dangerous mafia bosses?" he joked.

"Heath, you know my exes."

"I don't want to believe that you are into losers, so let me dream, okay."

We continue to play the game in Heath's room while I tell him everything about my family, ignoring every door knock.

"Knock-knock-knock-knock," this time the knock is too loud to ignore. It was already late, and we had stayed playing our dirty game while drowning our sorrows.

"I will go open," I tell the very dissatisfied Heath, who grumbles, "Why can't they just get the message?

"Because we are worried, duh!" Selby shouted the moment I opened the door.

"Ugh…. We brought you some food," Clover says, getting inside the room without permission. "Hi, Heath."

"Thank you," I tell them. They look at me with the most disappointed looks, "What?"

"We thought something had happened, but guess you were just spending quality time with Heath," Selby says, diverting her eyes to the card written 'suck my c*ck' which was on top of the deck.

"Oh… come on, you and Lucas are way freakier than us," Heath defends, hiding all the cards away.

"Well, at least they don't forget they have friends while they are freaky," Clover fires.

"Sorry," Heath sheepishly says, rubbing the back of his neck, "It's just Fiona saw her aunt and uncle this morning and she didn't feel like going out."

"What? Those devils are here?" Selby shouts, "Where? Probably wasting your parents' money on a cruise, ugh…... when I meet them, I will throw them overboard."

"Selby, that is illegal," Clover warns.

"So is leaving a child on the side of the road in a dangerous neighborhood," Selby had always been open to being angry about them, reasonably, because she was the one who watched me cry myself to sleep after they had abandoned me.

She once spent the rest of her 12th-grade holidays following all of them on social media, leaving nasty comments on their posts.

"There is no need for that; they have no money now," I say bitterly.

"What? They blew all the money away. How dare they?" This time, Clover is the one who yells, flabbergasted. "Where are they? I think it is safe to throw them overboard."

"They are part of the cleaning staff," they both look at Heath disapprovingly, as he is their employer.

"He didn't even know they were related to me, guys, stop this," I say, "I have a plan on how to deal with them, right now I just want to stay in."

"Okay, I understand," they both say in unison, before hugging me.

"Make sure she eats," Selby fires at Heath.

"Continue with your freaky games, we didn't see anything," Clover teased, dragging Selby with her.

"You have some good friends there," Heath says, "Come on, let us eat, I don't want Selby to kill me."

We continued with our game after food, until we were exhausted. "Okay, time to sleep," Heath says.

"Don't want me to suck your..."

"Stop tempting me, we need to rest, we are almost in Mauritius, and we will need the rest. Come on, let us sleep.

"Let us shower first, then," I say happily, "clean bodies rest well."

"Fine, go get your fancy bath equipment," he teased.

I ignored his sarcasm before rushing to my room to get my bath soaps that Heath did not seem to understand.

Perhaps we are moving too fast. I mean, he is a famous playbook. Can someone change this quickly? I ask myself.

But I don't want to doubt him. We cannot start a healthy relationship without trust. 'I trust him, he cares about me,' I reassured myself as I picked up all the 'equipment' needed for my shower date.

I hop happily back to Heath's room, but I am shocked by what greets me. Heath is standing with a towel around his torso at the bathroom door while the water runs in the shower.

He is looking at his bed where Esther is lying completely naked. She hears the door open and looks at me and smirks at me, like she had triumphed in the most brutal war.

"What the hell?" I shouted aggressively.

"Don't misunderstand," he shouts at me.
