The sultan leaned back and gave me a cold stare. "You two vouch for these outsiders. But what if this is a trap? What if this is a ruse to get us to lower our guard and allow them to conquer us?"
Ailia placed her hands on her hips. "Are you truly that paranoid, Your Majesty?"
The sultan scoffed. "A healthy amount of paranoia has kept me and my ancestors alive and in power for centuries. That said, I do trust in your readings of the stars, Ailia. You have yet to steer me wrong." He then turned to me. "But you, Farid. You, I am not so sure of."
"My loyalty to you and Taahid is unwavering, Your Majesty," I said, my voice firm. "I would not bring this matter to you if I did not believe it to be of the utmost importance."
He glnced at the door. Sufiya and Zayn walked in.
I stared at them. As expected, the other two Emissaries were here.
