Beau Reed's hand gripping the car door suddenly tightened.
Mary Douglas leaned over to fasten her seatbelt.
The man straightened up and said to Beau Reed, "Drive carefully," but as soon as he turned his gaze and saw Beau Reed's cold, gloomy eyes, he paused slightly, his eyes filled with confusion as he looked at Beau Reed.
Beau Reed closed the car door and stood in front of it for a long time before turning to walk around the car and getting in.
Silently, he started the car, and Mary Douglas watched as his hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly that the veins on the back of his hands stood out prominently, emitting an audible creaking sound.
Yet his face showed no change, very calm, without a ripple.
"Is the food here good?" It was a long time after the car started moving when Beau Reed finally asked.
"Not bad."
"Next time, I'll bring you here again."
"No need. I don't want to come back for a while."
"Then we'll come again when you feel like it."
