Flying off the handle after just a few words was a common tactic for many people.

The manager said, "Go and talk to the two ladies inside." I might as well ask them first, he thought. After all, whether or not they agree to meet is their decision. I'll have done what I can.
The waiter standing nearby nodded and quickly departed.
