Gu Mian recognized that this wasn't Old Xu's voice from the last call.
"Is this the Carnival Wharf office? I'm looking for Old Xu." Gu Mian deliberately adjusted his voice to sound less distinctive.
Fatty beside him grimaced; he had never heard Gu Mian speak in such a gentle tone.
"Old Xu?" The person on the other end hesitated upon hearing the name.
Then Gu Mian heard him shout loudly, "Has anyone seen Old Xu today? Someone's calling for him."
Gu Mian knew he wasn't talking to him but was asking others on the line.
Soon, another voice came from the other end, "Old Xu? He seemed to have left since the day the Upper Class People variety show started. He resigned that night."
"Resigned?" Gu Mian heard the caller's voice grow louder, "It's really hard for us to find a job these days, and he just quit like that?"
"Anyway, I've always thought he was quite mysterious, arriving at our wharf out of nowhere, and leaving just as mysteriously."
