Chapter 3 - In the temporal dimension

Dialga entered his own dimension with Gwen, and just like that, they were safe from the Chronosapien Time Bomb. The temporal dimension of Dialga was a vast blue realm without any real space, existing entirely as an endless sea of temporal energy. There was no sky, no ground, and no visible horizon. Everything around them shimmered with streams of flowing time, making the dimension feel both empty and alive at the same time.

As soon as Dialga entered his own dimension, his body began to change. A brilliant white light covered him from head to toe as his entire form shifted once again.

"Woah!"

Gwen, who was still sitting on top of Dialga, immediately noticed the transformation. Her eyes widened in surprise as the dragon's appearance continued changing right before her.

"Ben, how did your transformation change forms?"

She couldn't hide the amazement in her voice. Ben, still in his Dialga form, simply chuckled at her reaction.

This was Dialga's Origin Form. The members of the Creation Trio naturally underwent another transformation whenever they entered their respective dimensions. Their Origin Forms were directly connected to the dimensions they ruled over and represented what could be considered their true forms. In these forms, the Creation Trio's powers reached their absolute peak. Their regular forms weren't actually weaker by nature; instead, they existed to adjust their overwhelming power to the lower-dimensional reality of the normal universe. Their Origin Forms simply allowed them to exist without those limitations inside their own domains.

Because of that, Ben wasn't surprised by Gwen's shocked expression.

"Don't worry, Gwen. This is Dialga's Origin Form, or you could just call it his true form. Dialga is basically a god here. The form you saw before was actually a lesser form that adjusted his strength to exist in a lower dimension."

Gwen blinked several times before looking around the strange realm again.

"W-what do you mean by a lower dimension? Are you saying we're in a higher dimension?"

Her voice was filled with disbelief. The very thought that they were standing in a higher-dimensional realm was difficult for her to wrap her head around.

Ben looked genuinely surprised by her question.

Professor Paradox hadn't been exaggerating.

"Paradox was right. You really are smart."

He gently lowered Gwen from his back. The moment her feet left him, she quickly realized there wasn't any real ground beneath her. Instead of falling, she simply floated in place. After a few moments, she experimentally pushed herself forward and effortlessly glided through the air.

"Woah! Flying without turning into Stinkfly is sooo weird! It's like gravity itself has been turned off!"

She laughed as she slowly became accustomed to the strange physics of Dialga's home dimension, floating around with increasing confidence as she explored the endless sea of blue temporal energy.

Meanwhile, the great Time God de-transformed. A flash of golden light surrounded Dialga before Ben once again stood where the legendary Pokémon had been moments earlier. He smiled as he watched Gwen continue getting used to flying through the dimension.

"Sorry about this place. This is Dialga's Dimension of Time. It's different from Palkia's dimension, where there's no time, only space. I brought us here because the weapon couldn't reach us here."

Gwen nodded before floating back toward him.

"It's quite alright... and thank you for saving our lives. But seriously... what was that weapon?"

Ben thought for a moment before answering.

"From what Professor Paradox told me, that was some kind of Time Bomb created by the Chronosapiens... or at least, I think that's what their species is called."

"Chrono... sapiens?"

Gwen sounded completely confused. She had never heard of an alien species by that name before, although that wasn't too surprising considering her Omnitrix only contained around thirteen or fourteen aliens at this point. What surprised her even more was that this older Ben didn't seem particularly familiar with them either.

Shouldn't an older version of Ben know far more about different alien species?

"I think Chronosapiens are aliens that can basically manipulate time however they want, kind of like Dialga. The only real difference is that Dialga is basically a Time God, while Chronosapiens are simply a species."

Gwen's eyes widened.

"Wait... if Dialga—or whatever you call that alien—is a god, then why didn't you stop the bomb and save everyone?"

There was obvious anger in her voice now. She stared directly at Ben, clearly struggling to understand his decision.

"If he was really that powerful, then why didn't he stop it?" she continued. "You could've at least tried!"

Part of her wondered if Ben simply knew he couldn't stop it and chose to escape instead. That would at least make some sense... but she wasn't convinced.

Ben sighed.

"Look, Gwen. I don't have any doubt that Dialga could've stopped the bomb. Heck, I have other transformations that could've done it just as easily, but—"

"But what?!" Gwen interrupted. "You could've saved them, but you chose to run like a coward! Ben 10,000 might not have been able to stop it, but at least he tried!"

Ben remained calm.

"Ben 10,000 let himself get deleted on purpose."

"W-what?"

Gwen froze.

Ben looked at the young Gwen, whose face was filled with disbelief, before calmly repeating himself.

"Ben 10,000's transformation, Atomic X, is a fusion between Atomix and Alien X. From everything I know about Alien X, it's basically an all-powerful reality warper. Even if you argue that combining its DNA with Atomix somehow reduced or divided Alien X's reality-warping abilities, it still doesn't really make sense. Alien X should possess infinite power. Divide infinity by any finite number, no matter how large that number is, and it's still infinity."

Gwen stopped arguing.

Instead, she actually thought about what Ben had just said.

...He was right.

If Alien X truly possessed infinite power, then combining its DNA with a being that only had finite power shouldn't meaningfully reduce it. Even if Atomic X were somehow weaker than Alien X, it should still possess more than enough power to stop the Time Bomb.

"Now that I think about it..." Gwen admitted slowly, "...you're kind of right. But why? Why would he let himself get destroyed?"

She tried to understand the reasoning.

Both Ben 10,000 and this older Ben clearly possessed transformations capable of stopping the bomb, yet neither of them had done so.

Why?

"Because Ben 10,000 has already lived through this moment."

"Huh?"

Gwen looked at him, completely confused.

"Ben 10,000 is simply the future version of Ben Prime. That means he already knows what was supposed to happen and why it was important. That's why he didn't stop the attack. As for me..." Ben paused briefly. "Professor Paradox personally told me not to interfere."

Gwen stared at him in disbelief.

"Professor Paradox told you not to interfere? But if he didn't want you to be useful, then why bring you here in the first place?"

Ben just shrugged at gwen and said

"I don't know much about time bullshit myself or how butter fly effects works but because i have two transformations with time related power i have pretty good idea... It most likely because of No watch ben and his role in all of this... basically what paradox claimed character development"

After hearing everything Ben had explained, Gwen didn't know what to say. Her mind was still trying to process everything she had just learned. Between the higher-dimensional realm they were standing in, the Chronosapien Time Bomb, Ben 10,000 willingly allowing himself to be erased, and Professor Paradox apparently planning everything from the very beginning, it was simply too much to take in all at once.

She remained silent for a while, staring into the endless sea of blue temporal energy surrounding them. Countless thoughts raced through her mind, yet none of them seemed to form a proper answer.

Eventually, she let out a tired sigh.

"So..." she began slowly, "we're just stuck here until No Watch Ben gets his... 'character development?'"

Ben simply shrugged before giving her a small nod.

"Pretty much."

Gwen immediately facepalmed.

"I can't believe you're saying that so casually..."

Ben couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction. After allowing the silence to linger for another moment, he decided to change the subject.

"So... Gwen."

She looked back at him.

"Why don't you tell me about yourself?"

Gwen blinked in confusion.

"Wait... don't you already know who I am?"

She genuinely couldn't understand why another version of Ben would ask her something like that.

Ben slowly shook his head.

"No... sadly, I don't. Everything I know about you, Grandpa Max, or anyone else important in Ben's life came from Professor Paradox."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"That's because... in my dimension, I'm an orphan. I never knew who my family was."

Gwen froze.

For several seconds, she simply stared at him.

"S-so..."

Her voice trembled.

"You mean... no Grandpa Max?"

Ben quietly shook his head.

"No."

Before he could say anything else, Gwen suddenly threw her arms around him.

She hugged him tightly.

Ben's eyes widened in surprise. He clearly hadn't expected that reaction.

"I-I'm so sorry..."

Her voice cracked as she buried her face against his shoulder.

"I didn't know..."

Tears slowly rolled down her face.

She couldn't even begin to imagine growing up without Grandpa Max. The thought alone was heartbreaking. Grandpa Max had always been there for her and Ben. He had taught them, protected them, and traveled with them on countless adventures. The idea that another version of Ben had grown up without ever meeting him made her chest ache.

Ben remained frozen for a moment before slowly returning the hug.

He gently rubbed her back in an attempt to comfort her.

"It's okay, Gwen."

"No, it's not..."

She sniffled.

"I'm... I'm so sorry."

She remained in his arms for nearly a full minute before finally calming down enough to let go.

Taking a small step back, Gwen lowered her head, clearly embarrassed that she had started crying.

Seeing his cousin like that made Ben frown.

He barely knew this version of Gwen, yet watching her cry because of him didn't sit well with him at all.

"It's okay, Gwen," he said with a reassuring smile. "I really don't mind any of that."

He gently changed the subject.

"But enough about me."

He smiled warmly.

"Let's talk about you instead."

Gwen looked up at him.

Seeing him smile despite everything made her smile as well.

She wiped the remaining tears from her eyes before coughing lightly to compose herself.

"My name is Gwendolyn Catherine Tennyson," she said proudly, "and I'm the wielder of the Omnitrix."

From there, Gwen began telling Ben about her life.

She talked about her parents and Grandpa Max. She even laughed while explaining how her version of Ben could be a complete dweeb sometimes, although she admitted he always meant well.

She told him about the summer vacation that had changed everything.

How she had discovered an alien watch called the Omnitrix.

How putting it on had completely changed her life.

She explained how she became a hero, protecting innocent people from danger while discovering alien after alien inside the Omnitrix.

She talked about Vilgax and how determined he had been to steal the Omnitrix from her.

She shared stories about traveling across the country with Grandpa Max and Ben inside the Rustbucket, meeting strange people, discovering alien secrets, and saving the world more times than she could count.

She even told him about the time several of her enemies had united against her, forming a group they proudly called the Negative 10.

Every story naturally led into another.

Some were exciting.

Others were funny.

A few were even embarrassing.

Throughout every adventure, however, there was always one constant.

Her family had always been by her side.

No matter what happened, no matter how impossible the situation seemed, they always faced it together.

Ben listened quietly without interrupting her.

Hours seemed to pass inside Dialga's timeless dimension as Gwen continued sharing one story after another.

Although time didn't truly exist there, the conversation flowed so naturally that neither of them even noticed how long they had been talking.

As Ben listened, he couldn't help but picture everything she described.

The family dinners.

The road trips.

The arguments between cousins.

The laughter.

The adventures.

He found himself wondering what life must have been like for Gwen's version of Ben.

"It must've been pretty nice, huh?" he asked softly.

Gwen tilted her head.

"Huh?"

"All those adventures."

He smiled faintly.

"Traveling with your grandpa... and your cousin."

A bright smile spread across Gwen's face.

"It was."

She nodded enthusiastically.

"No matter what happened, those summers are the most precious memories I have."

Her smile grew even wider.

"And I wouldn't trade them for anything."

Almost immediately, her expression softened again.

She remembered that the Ben sitting across from her had never experienced any of that.

"What about you?"

Ben looked at her.

"Hmm?"

"You know..."

She hesitated.

"Being alone... must get lonely."

There was genuine sadness in her voice.

Ben simply smiled and shook his head.

"No."

He looked out across the endless blue dimension surrounding them.

"It's not as sad as you might think."

"I've made friends along the way."

A small smile appeared on his face.

"And... my adventures are pretty unique in their own way."

Gwen's curiosity instantly returned.

She floated a little closer, looking at him with eager eyes.

"Really?"

Ben nodded.

"Well..."

A nostalgic smile spread across his face.

"For starters..."

He looked down at Gwen before introducing himself.

"My name is Ben Tennyson..."

He raised his left wrist.

"...and I am the wielder of the Monotrix."
