As they did not need to hide anymore Xu Kai did not need to wait for Cheng Xiao or pick her up a street away from the office. He told the driver to park in front of the company and Cheng Xiao entered the car amongst the looks from other employees.
All Cheng Xiao's worries had been settled, so there was no need to be afraid anymore, she was just going to focus on loving him now. How many years had Xu Kai waited for her, she did not know, but she had made her mind not to make him wait any longer.
"At least ow I don't have to act like a kept man of yours." Xu Kai said in a teasing voice.
"Who would dare to make you a kept man?" Cheng Xiao asked.
"My bad!" Xu Kai said with a smile.
Cheng Xiao leaned her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes; Xu Kai took out his phone and started reading messages. Cheng Xiao's phone started ringing and she opened her eyes and reached for her bag, she took the phone from her bag and saw the call ID was her father.
"Yes, father." She said as she answered the call.
"Your mother is in hospital." Her father said making her sit up straight.
Xu Kai turned to look at her.
"Which hospital?" She asked with a shaky voice.
After the father gave her the hospital name she said she would immediately and hang up. Tears started falling than she had anticipated.
"Hey what is wrong?" Xu Kai asked pulling her into his arms.
"My---my-my mother i-is i-n a h-h-hospital." She said in between her sobs.
"Go to the hospital." Xu Kai said as he instructed the driver.
"Did father-in-law say what is wrong with mother-in-law?" Xu Kai asked and Cheng Xiao shook her head.
"Don't cry, everything will be fine." Xu Kai said as he rubbed her back.
"Nothing can happen to her." Cheng Xiao muttered as she buried herself in Xu Kai's embrace.
The car arrived at the hospital and Cheng Xiao rushed out and ran inside; Xu Kai ran behind her. Cheng Xiao asked the nurse at the station of her mother, and they told her the wardroom number. They both rushed to the room, Cheng Xiao opened the door and there on the bed laid her mother, her face was pale she had no glow like she had on the Saturday when they had a family day.
"Father, what is wrong with mother?" Cheng Xiao asked.
"The doctor said your mother's cancer is back." Her father replied.
"NO!" She said as she slumped to the floor and Xu Kai rushed to hold her up.
"Why now?" Cheng Xiao asked as tears fell.
Seven years ago, the cancer started which was why she couldn't resign as Xu Kai's secretary and follow her dream. The breast cancer had taken five years to heal, and it had nearly killed her mother back then.
