BREATH BREATH CREAK SPARK
A man with short white hair walked through a narrow tunnel, holding a torch in his right hand to light the way. His white and gold armour was a stark contrast to the dirt in the tunnel and the heavy dust-filled air.
"This fucking dust is killing me. FUCK THIS WORLD, FUCK THE ROYAL GUARD. FUCK ME FOR EVEN THINKING ABOUT GOING DOWN HERE. I mean, I'm in a fucking fantasy world, for fuck's sake. Why in the fuck am I walking through sewers right now….", Jacob said to himself as he spat out another breath filled with dust.
'FUCK, this tastes like…', he thought before stopping and tasting his lips again. 'Tastes metallic…', he thought, his eyes widening and his heart beating faster.
Jacob slowly raised his armoured hand and took off the gauntlet on his right hand before slowly putting his hand on the dust-covered sewer walls. The fire next to him barely lighting the walls properly.
Then Jacob brought his hand up to the torch, and his suspicions were confirmed. 'Blood', he saw the dried red on his palm against his white armour. Blood dust was flying at him from the other end of the tunnel.
Jacob put his gauntlet back on and sprinted down the tunnel, with strong winds now clearing through the tunnel before he stepped through. He ran and ran for kilometres through the underground of a city that houses more than fifty million people.
STEP STEP STEP STEP STEP
'It can't be…Their crazy bastards…', Jacob thought, looking from the end of the tunnel down onto a massive hall where he was standing on the edge of a twenty-metre-tall hole in the dome he was looking down into. His eyes instantly went to the thousands of dried-up corpses held by deep green vines of a massive closed flower at the centre of the dome.
And on each vine was a crow looking around and picking at the corpses. Some of the crows were picking on a victim screaming from the pain of crows eating him alive while the spikes on the vine holding him drank up his blood.
Suddenly, a red glow shone over Jacob through the darkness, and his eyes widened to see a demonic eye open up from the side of a massive vine where dozens of human-sized crows sat and were now eyeing him up.
CRAAAAA CRAAAAA CRAAAAAA
All the crows sent out an alert to the whole dome of an intruder….
'SHIT', Jacob thought as he flashed back into the tunnel with an ethereal green covering his body….
BOOOOM CRACK STAB BANG
Thick and sharp vines broke through the tunnel and stabbed at him from every direction, but Jacob was faster by merely half a second as the winds exploded from his mouth and formed a thin wall around the tunnel to block any vines from breaking through and collapsing his only way out.
"TEMPEST STORM", Jacob shouted as he opened his palms behind him, and two tornadoes were released from his hands, propelling him forward and destroying any vines trying to catch him.
Meanwhile, back in the dome and at the base of the massive flower…
"He got out", a thin man holding a green book said to a smaller girl with black hair and a crow sitting on her shoulder.
"So be it, start the ritual and open the gate. We have more than enough now…", she replied, and the man nodded, smiling and putting his hand on the plant to feel the monstrous amount of demonic energy stored in the flower. But not only this flower, he felt the shared vines of more than a dozen similar flowers under the capital.
These flowers are the result of the work of two apostles of powerful guilds, capable apostles who very few would dare cross their path.
Not only for their prowess but also for their cruelty, one had little empathy for anything beyond her birds, and the other, well, the other was a natural-born sociopath who used to poison his patients with poisonous plants as a doctor back on Earth.
"HAAAH HAAAAAH HAAAH", Jacob breathed heavily as he looked up at the sun of the outside world with relief, his Royal Knight platoon looking at him confused and cautious, seeing their normally laid-back and smiling captain show such a face. Especially the giant who was rolling two dice in between his fingers.
"Captain, what—", one of the young knights tried speaking, but…
WOOOOOOOOSH
Jacob suddenly took flight out of nowhere, shocking his squad who had never seen him fly before.
Jacob caught the eye of every person below who saw a flying knight for the first time in their life, and he was headed at maximum speed to the grand palace, the most luxurious and incredible structure in the kingdom, a humongous place at the centre of the capital covered in gold and rune-engraved walls.
Everywhere he passed by were hit by a strong jet stream of wind….
"STOP, CAPTAIN JACOB. YOU ARE BEING TAKEN INTO QUESTIONING", a squad of a dozen royal knights riding ten-metre-long Gryphons in gold armour flew up to stop him. They stopped Jacob before he got any closer to the palace.
"Out of my way", Jacob said, and his eyes shone a brilliant green, his white hair floating up and fusing with his light green.
Jacob waved his hand, and a monstrous surge of wind threw the Gryphons plummeting away with their wings struggling against the winds smashing into them.
Jacob continued flying at the top tower of the palace where a balcony of gold stood. Numerous mages around the palace saw the young knight using mysterious magic to fly at the palace and were ready to shoot him down with ease using their high-circle magic, but suddenly they felt a very unique mana disrupt their mana flow at the exact same time.
Only one mage was capable of such a feat in the capital, 'The Grand Magus', one of the sixth-star mages realised and lowered his staff, watching the Knight fly all the way into the balcony undisturbed.
Jacob landed roughly into the balcony and rolled on the ground as a massive pressure hit him, nearly making his head explode the instant he crossed the balcony. He rolled and rolled until he stopped on a red carpet leading up to steps where a giant gold throne stood.
There, a man with gold hair and eyes sat with a gold crown on his head, the king of the kingdom. He leaned forward with his elbows resting on the throne. Beside him, a tall man holding an even taller staff with a giant blue crystal at the top of the staff stood.
Both looked down at Jacob, and their presence was crushing. The king smiled, and the grand magus held a serious face, his eyes giving out a light shine of blue as he analysed Jacob's body but still couldn't figure out this wind magic he was using.
'No connection to mana or nature energy…Where is he drawing his magic from… I have never come across this before…', the old mage thought, though he didn't look old whatsoever.
UGH
HAH HAH AH
Jacob breathed heavily as he burned through his Spirit like crazy, and the armour he was wearing rattled hard with winds breaking through every glass in the royal hall. The winds were green in colour and started circling Jacob, protecting him from the two monsters who simply gave him a look, and it felt like he'd nearly died.
"Who are you? Royal Knight?", the King asked, and Jacob, with green eyes glowing, could faintly see a terrible gold hiding behind the king. It reminded him of something…Reminded him of when he looked into Ali's shadow sometimes, like a monster was hiding there….
"HAAAH HAAH", Jacob breathed, trying to settle his heart rate down.
"A gate…", Jacob said.
"Gate? What gate?", the king asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Demons. A demon gate will open in the capital any minute now…A big one…THOUSANDS SACRIFICED UNDER THE CITY, AND I ONLY SAW A SMALL SECTION OF THE UNDERGROUND", Jacob shouted and also said his realisation out loud: that was only one dome of dozens under the city.
"Explain yourself", the king said as he signalled his mage, who tapped his staff once, and a massive blue ring flew out, spreading across the whole city. The mage sensed nothing but then the ring stopped at the edges of the gigantic city and fell down through the ground.
Seeing the mage's eyes open wide and his grip on the staff tighten, the king immediately realised what his old friend sensed.
"How bad is it?", the king asked.
"Enough for at least two Demon Generals to pass through with their armies", the Grand Magus said, sensing the rich demonic energy under the city.
"I will send some of the Demonic Mana to a pocket dimension", the grand magus said, raising his staff in the air, and twenty different magic circles appeared out of thin air and started rotating around his whole body.
"Too late", Jacob said, shocking both men who followed his gaze, and terror they'd never seen before hit them.
They would now witness what would happen if apostles of Paradise worked with the strongest Demon followers on the continent.
