[Ovelia's POV]
I opened my eyes.
The ceiling of my room stared back at me—familiar wooden beams running parallel across the white plaster. I blinked, letting my vision focus on the wooden beam running across the center and the soft gray light of afternoon filtering through the window.
So it was real. Ray carrying me here. That wasn't a dream.
I stretched my arm toward the ceiling, fingers splayed, turning my hand slowly in the light. The skin was smooth, unmarked. No bruises. No scars. No evidence of any of the hardships my body had endured. No evidence of that black-furred werewolf who had attacked me after my wedding.
I heal fast.
The thought settled into me, no longer a mystery. I was half-elf. Now it made sense. The way my body healed faster than it should. The way I could withstand things that should have broken me, the strange resilience that had always set me apart from the other humans in Timberline.
