The ride from the hospital was silent again, but it felt different from before. Samantha leaned against the window of the car, her head aching faintly, her ankle wrapped securely beneath the borrowed hospiatl blanket. The city lights blurred as the car sped by. She could still smell the faint trace of hospital clinging to her.
Darian sat beside her. He still hadn't spoken since they left Theodore's care. His robe had been replaced by a dark coat, his bloody hands were now clean, and his hair was no longer messy from the fight. He looked like the composed man she had seen in the club.
Lior was driving this time. The driver from earlier had been dismissed. The silence inside the car stretched but it was easier to breathe than before. .
Samantha shifted. "You didn't have to bring me back."
Darian's eyes moved slightly towards her. "You can't walk properly and you shouldn't be alone."
"There's Kaia," she mumbled.
"I'm aware," he said. "She's already on her way downstairs."
