Chapter 464 - Chapter 464: A Body Without a Soul

"So you just grabbed me like that?"

Tony looked aggrieved as he stared at Noah and Wong inside the laboratory of the new Stark Tower-now renamed the Avengers Compound-on the outskirts of New York.

Not far away, Pepper was talking quietly with Kassandra.

"No choice." Noah sighed and shrugged. "Who knows what got into her."

He genuinely didn't know what had pushed Kassandra this far.

At first, he thought her doubts were reasonable. Anyone would hesitate at the idea of cloning a body and stuffing a retrieved soul into it. No matter how you looked at it, the process sounded absurd.

So Noah called Tony.

He put the call on speaker.

Kassandra heard everything.

And then she snapped.

In Noah's words, she went completely mad.

She insisted on testing the magic herself.

Noah told her clearly-this had never been tested.

She didn't care.

That left Noah stunned.

Was living really that unbearable?

To be honest, Noah could tell that Kassandra didn't place much value on life or death anymore. After learning how the Isu had used and deceived her, she seemed ready to abandon everything she had carried for centuries.

Noah had given her hope.

She didn't fully trust it.

So she chose herself as the experiment.

If it worked, she would live on, help Noah, manage the High Table, and tell him everything she knew about the Underworld. Juno had memories of it, but Kassandra had entered it herself.

She had fought Hades.

That authority couldn't be replaced.

If it failed?

Then it failed.

In her eyes, the world no longer had obligations for her to bear.

Dying didn't matter.

After more than two thousand years of solitude and pain, she was tired.

Helpless, Noah brought her here with a dark expression.

As for Desmond and that so-called "Controller," Noah dumped them straight into the London Sanctum.

He'd deal with them later.

He didn't have time now.

Kassandra showed no reaction to any of it. She merely sighed at Noah's teleportation magic.

Noah even took the chance to sell her on other magic-like life absorption.

It didn't matter.

She had already decided.

Noah still had a massive reserve of life force taken from the giant beast, but nowhere to use it.

So he stored it away.

He opened a portal and brought her straight to Tony's place.

Then Noah and Wong roughly dragged a half-dazed Tony along, waking Pepper in the process, and brought them all to the lab.

"I have to say," Tony stared at the data Jarvis projected, eyes wide, "this woman's physical stats are ridiculous."

"Of course," Noah replied calmly. "She has Isu blood."

"And she herself is a Ninth Order... assassin."

He paused briefly on the term.

Assassin or warrior?

Noah wasn't sure.

She seemed good at everything.

More importantly, she had an abnormal level of perception.

In the end, he settled on assassin.

After all, this was Assassin's Creed.

The first Hidden One descended from her bloodline.

"That strong?" Tony turned to look at Kassandra. "You're sure you didn't get this wrong?"

"Not a chance," Noah shrugged.

"So she's just... giving this up?"

"You're asking me?" Noah sighed. "Who do you want me to ask?"

"Besides, she has experience. Reaching that level again won't be hard."

Tony fell silent.

Noah didn't plan to preserve her original body.

Once separated from the Staff, it would probably age instantly into bones.

It had no preservation value.

Whether it was because of prolonged exposure to the Staff or deliberate Isu design, Noah didn't care.

The Isu weren't coming back.

Even if the sorcerers allowed it-which they wouldn't-Odin certainly wouldn't.

Leaving behind a mess and walking away didn't mean Asgard was responsible for cleanup.

As for whether Kassandra could return to her peak?

That depended on Tony.

If Tony capped the cloned body's limits, she'd never surpass them.

"Should I... do something?" Tony asked suddenly. "Is she dangerous?"

"No." Noah glanced at Kassandra and shook his head. "Someone in the magic world can deal with her."

"She's strong, but the world is bigger than that."

Tony nodded.

Then he smiled.

"Oh, by the way, my movie's almost done."

"Really?" Noah smiled back. "Nice."

"So tell me-did you use the rules to form some very friendly relationships with Hollywood actresses?"

"Damn it!" Tony's smile vanished. "Do I even need to?"

"With a snap of my fingers, every single one of them-married or not-would crawl into my bed."

Noah ignored him and turned to Wong.

"Did you hear that?"

"This guy is a massive scumbag. Remember that."

Wong nodded seriously and looked at Tony with deep disdain.

Tony felt a little depressed.

And extremely satisfied.

Unfortunately, Noah didn't share that confidence.

And even if he did, he wouldn't use it.

Looking at the data again, Noah asked, "If you recreate her body perfectly, how long?"

"Very fast," Tony replied casually. "A few hours."

"Only because I'm unfamiliar with some equipment. Otherwise, even faster."

"That fast?" Noah was startled. "Why?"

"First, it's just a body," Tony explained. "Star Wars tech perfected this ages ago."

"For them, cloning takes minutes."

"Second, they usually inject loyalty or consciousness. You don't need that."

"We're just making a vessel."

Noah nodded.

A vessel.

He'd been worried it would take years.

Or worse-some cliché where a baby had to grow up.

If that happened, he'd need the Time Stone.

Thankfully, none of that was necessary.

A few hours later, the body was complete.

A woman lay there, as if asleep.

She looked almost identical to Kassandra.

Fairer skin.

No scars.

No strength.

An ordinary human body.

And one more thing.

"Why isn't she wearing clothes?" Noah tilted his head.

"Seriously?" Tony rolled his eyes. "She was just cloned."

"I'm leaving this to you."

"And I'll shut down all surveillance."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Noah frowned. "Why do I feel insulted?"

"Your imagination," Tony smiled.

"Just remember to show me the experiment data."

"Could be useful."

Tony and the others left.

The room fell quiet.

Kassandra looked at the sleeping body for a long time.

Then, slowly, she lowered the staff in her hand.
