Victoria stepped fully into the cramped closet, letting the door swing shut behind her with a soft but final click that sealed them inside the dim, airless space like a coffin.
Cain's wails spiked immediately, shrill and frantic, his tiny legs thrashing beneath the thin, sweat-damp blanket as though he could sense the shift in the air.
