Hilary's round, dark eyes glistened as she looked at the tears gathering at the corners of Celeste's eyes. "You said you're not crying," she murmured softly. "But look, there are tears." She carefully took a tissue from the table and gently dabbed at the corners of Celeste's eyes.
She couldn't bear to see her great-grandmother cry and wondered who could have made her so sad.
"Hilary," Celeste whispered, pulling her into a tight embrace, her heart filled with emotion.
"Mom, who is she?" Susie asked, glancing at Hilary.
"Aunt Susie, she's the child Claire had with another man. She's living here with the Watsons now," Emma explained quickly.
