Captain Mercer met the family beside the first loading ramp with a manifest in his hand and his attention fixed on the Monolith approaching behind them.
"Mister Grey. Welcome aboard."
"Thank you for taking us."
"Your office was very clear about the requirements."
The captain glanced at the giant again as it stepped beneath the ship's open stern door. Its maul passed through with room to spare, and Mercer followed it up the ramp beside Kaiden.
Inside, the cargo deck extended beneath banks of electric lights. Marked lanes divided the floor, with the strongest sections reserved for the heaviest creatures and clear passages left for the crew.
Kaiden could understand why Doug had chosen these ships. They were enormous steel garages that could cross an ocean.
The Monolith seemed equally interested, approaching an interior partition to press its knuckles against the painted surface.
