"…"
Communication with the Great Banyan Tree was not as smooth as Kahn had hoped.
Although he initially experienced some profound insights, nothing followed after that.
Instead, he felt himself moving—as if traveling along the roots of the Great Banyan Tree, or drifting downstream through a river of consciousness.
Gradually, the movement slowed. His awareness settled. Specks of light appeared before his eyes. And in his ears—
Jumbled voices?
A young man spoke confidently:
"This must be some program you arranged, right? Hiding someone inside the tree using some kind of sect technique, then letting him out when someone comes. It has to be!"
Immediately, Xiu'er's voice replied:
"No, we don't have any kind of technique like that, and I don't know this person. I think he's someone the Great Banyan Tree summoned. Other than that, I can't think of any explanation."
"You're saying he was brought here by the Great Banyan Tree? Impossible! There's no way something that bizarre could happen!"
"Enough, Sokka! Can you stop clinging to your stubborn, idiotic logic? He clearly appeared out of thin air from inside the Great Banyan Tree! Right in front of us! Is it really that hard for you to admit something supernatural happened?"
"But that's completely illogical!"
The young woman and the young man began arguing loudly, their voices increasing until Kahn frowned. Then a slightly childish voice cut in:
"Stop arguing! He looks like he's waking up!"
"Mm."
Kahn opened his eyes.
The scenery was the same as before he'd entered meditation. Xiu'er was there too, standing properly. The difference was the appearance of three unfamiliar people.
A pair of clearly Water Tribe siblings—just slightly older than him—and… was that a little monk with a giant arrow tattooed on his head?
When had they arrived? Had he been meditating for a long time?
For some reason, Kahn felt something was off. Deeply off.
He also felt like he had seen that arrow symbol in some book before… but he couldn't recall where.
What made it even stranger was that the three newcomers watched him cautiously.
Was it because they recognized him as Fire Nation? Considering the Fire Nation's reputation abroad, it wouldn't be surprising if they were wary.
Kahn glanced at the only familiar person here—Xiu'er—and asked:
"Xiu'er, how long have I been here? Are they your guests?"
"Hah! See?! I told you they knew each other! Woohoo~!"
Sokka immediately began celebrating like he'd just won a war, while the other two exchanged confused looks with Xiu'er.
And then Xiu'er's answer made Kahn freeze.
"Do we know each other? How do you know my name? Did the Great Banyan Tree tell you?"
"No way… weren't you just—"
Kahn's sentence died halfway. A spark of realization exploded in his mind.
No way… No fucking way… There's no way something this wild is actually happening, right?
After hearing their exchange, the young woman stepped forward carefully. Seeing that Kahn didn't seem hostile, she introduced herself:
"Hello, my name is Katara. The neurotic one is my brother Sokka, and this is Aang. You seem to be in some sort of situation. Do you need help?"
"What year is it right now?"
Kahn asked suddenly.
Katara blinked in surprise, but answered. The moment the year left her lips, Kahn fell silent.
One year later…
Although he desperately didn't want this to be true, the facts lined up in the worst possible way.
He'd… apparently… possibly… probably… maybe… transmigrated again.
Really? Again?
He'd only come looking for answers—how the hell did that turn into suddenly landing in another world?
This was too fucking outrageous.
Fine. Calm down. Think.
Based on what he could observe:
The surrounding environment hadn't changed.
Xiu'er was here—but didn't know him.
Katara had reported a year one year ahead of the world he came from.
So his best guess?
He'd been sent to a parallel world—one year later than his original timeline.
And how?
The answer hit him immediately.
The Great Banyan Tree.
Guru Pathik and Xiu'er had both said the Great Banyan Tree connected the world, maybe the worlds.
Time and space were illusions within it. Perhaps it was even connected to parallel realities.
Like the World Tree from the myths of his past life.
But why would the Great Banyan Tree send him here?
Was this world holding the answers he sought?
There was no need to be this dramatic, right? Did it really need to toss him into another world?
While Kahn spiraled mentally, Katara hesitated before asking:
"Um… are you alright?"
"Ah—yeah. I'm okay."
Pulled back by her voice, Kahn forced a smile.
"Thank you for your concern. My name is Kahn. It's nice to meet all of you."
Aang stepped forward, curious and bright:
"Nice to meet you, Kahn! Do you know what happened? Why did you come out of the Great Banyan Tree?"
Kahn gave a bitter smile.
"I still don't understand everything… but I have some guesses. You could say the Great Banyan Tree summoned me."
Xiu'er clapped his hands joyfully:
"I knew it! Otherwise, how could you know my name? The Great Banyan Tree must have told you!"
What else could Kahn say? He could only nod and go along with it.
Sokka immediately leaned in, suspicious eyes narrowing as he inspected Kahn from head to toe.
"You seriously don't know that wild man? Do you think a normal person just pops out of a tree? You—"
"Sokka! Be polite, please!"
Katara shoved him away, ignoring his muttering about "abandoning her brother for some pretty boy," and turned back to Kahn.
"Since you were summoned by the Great Banyan Tree, do you know why? Or what it needs you to do?"
"I'm not entirely sure… maybe there's something here I'm supposed to find? Or maybe something here needs my help?"
Kahn shrugged helplessly.
"But honestly, what would it need from me? This world isn't exactly lacking Firebenders."
"You're a Firebender?!" × 3
All three shouted at once.
