Chapter 299 - Operation Chaos

Zane clapped his hands once. "Alright, kiddos. If you must know—which I'm sure you don't—there are some seniors and possibly juniors leaving the school premises at night to… do whatever unsupervised hormonal disasters they feel like in town." His grin widened just slightly. "Fortunately, I happen to know how. And when."

Everyone stared.

Celeste blinked. "You happen to know?"

"Yeah," Zane said casually. "So, here's the plan."

He pointed at Luna. "You. Since you're the quiet one—and possibly the shy one—who can turn invisible, we're gonna use you."

Luna's brows rose. "Wait, how do you know that?"

Zane smirked. "Because I was watching you. When you were flickering in and out earlier, nervous about calling Asher. Which, by the way, I don't understand at all. But that's a story for another time."

Luna flushed red. "Y-you were watching me?"

"Relax, I watch everybody," Zane deadpanned. "So yes. You, my little ninja ghost, will slip an anonymous tip to a few teachers about a hole in the wall. Exactly at sunset. Why sunset? Because that's when the students usually bolt for town, and that's when the magic detection system goes for a reset."

He turned to Asher next. "Then, Romeo here opens a portal for us in the middle of all that chaos. Straight into town." Zane squinted at him. "And yes, before I forget, Luna—you have to do it like a ninja."

Luna tilted her head. "Why?"

"Because it gives the whole operation the vibe I want," Zane said, dead serious.

Asher threw up his hands. "What vibe??"

Zane ignored him. "Once Luna distracts the teachers, Asher drops a portal for her too. And listen carefully—" he shot Asher a sharp look, "—no flirting."

Asher's jaw dropped. "You can't just—"

"Moving on," Zane interrupted.

Mira and Celeste glanced at each other before asking at the exact same time, "And what about us?"

Zane put a hand over his chest in mock sincerity. "If either of you end up dying because of me, just know I will not feel guilty. I will continue living my best life without a shred of remorse."

They both glared.

"…Anyway," Zane added quickly, "you two will keep watch on the chaos. Once the mess is made, we regroup at the fountain in the middle of town."

He stretched like he'd just given a lecture no one deserved.

"Simple. Clean. Foolproof."

Then he flashed that maddening grin.

"So. Everybody get ready to change. Let's do thisssssssss."
