Chapter 283 - Volume 2 Chapter 4 / Chapter 284: Mother

Volume 2 Chapter 4 / Chapter 284: Mother

While seated in a taxi, Ning Chu's mother arrived at the university gates where her precious daughter studied.

It was right around noon, just in time for lunch break. A group of lively, energetic students passed by her, laughing and chatting, their youth shining in every step.

She didn't have to wait long. Just a few minutes later, beyond the low automatic gate, she spotted her daughter walking toward her from the distance.

And with just one glance, she noticed something different about her.

Last time they met, her daughter had still been a slender young girl—face soft and youthful, with only the faintest hint of a succubus's charm visible between her brows if one looked carefully.

But now... now her daughter radiated a sultry, mature allure. Her cheeks glowed with a healthy blush, her entire being pulsed with magnetic charm. Even her every smile and expression seemed capable of turning heads.

And yet—her face still looked like it belonged to a high schooler...

Not to mention her slightly odd gait, and the fact that her thighs didn't seem to be held quite as tightly together as before.

Ning Chu's mother didn't know whether to feel relieved that Ning Chu had finally accepted her identity as a succubus… or to be furious that some broke brat had clearly made a move on her daughter.

"Mom~!"

Ning Chu trotted over cheerfully and threw her arms around her mother's arm with a grin. "Let's go! I'm treating you to lunch at the cafeteria~"

"You came all the way here, and you're taking me to a cafeteria?"

"There are fancy dishes there too, okay? They even have hot pot!"

Her mother eyed her up and down, carefully inspecting every inch of her. Then, she sniffed subtly—and caught a faint, sweet scent clinging to her daughter's body.

Ning Chu tried her best to act normal, but under that scrutinizing gaze, she couldn't help but feel nervous.

Crap! Mom's not gonna think she gave it up already… right?

Sure, for a succubus, "giving it up" was kinda... standard behavior...

But she was still a very pure little succubus, okay?! Even if her entire body had been thoroughly explored, technically there wasn't that much difference...

Ning Chu tugged on her mother's arm and whined softly, "Come ooon~"

"Where's that little boyfriend of yours?"

"He went ahead to order food so you don't have to wait when we get there."

"Still him, huh? Didn't find a new one?"

"Of course not!"

She could clearly feel her mother's disapproval of Wen Yang. Her voice even lifted unconsciously in defiance, but then she quickly lowered her head and muttered like a mosquito, "Can you just… not meddle in my stuff…"

On one side was her mother from a parallel world, someone she hadn't seen in over ten years. On the other, the boyfriend who had stayed by her side ever since she crossed over. Ning Chu didn't want to choose between them.

It was just too hard.

Her mother sighed and reached out to ruffle Ning Chu's hair. "If you're growing it out, at least get it trimmed. Look how messy it is."

"I don't wanna. Getting a haircut around campus costs like forty yuan—it's too expensive."

Seeing her mother switch topics, Ning Chu immediately brightened and wrapped her arm around her mother's again as they headed toward the cafeteria.

"Mom~ do you want to change your phone?"

"Why would I need a new phone?"

"Your phone's practically falling apart! The screen's all cracked, and it lags like crazy!"

Her mother chuckled and teased, "I don't have any money. Are you buying me one?"

"Exactly! Pick whichever you want around 2,000 yuan!" Ning Chu puffed up with smug pride, looking absolutely obnoxious as she boasted, "I've been writing web novels online, and I've actually made quite a bit!"

"Last month, some rich fan even tipped me a thousand!"

Her mother didn't fully get it, but nodded along supportively. "Hope more rich fans come your way."

"I wish! Not enough people are reading, though." Ning Chu pouted as she complained, but her eyes sparkled with joy. "I make like two to three thousand a month now! Once I get my royalties around the 15th, I'll buy you a new phone! You can go pick one out first~"

"Don't let it affect your studies."

"Don't worry!"

Walking along the campus path, the mother and daughter chatted idly. It wasn't a long walk, but they took ten full minutes to reach the cafeteria, caught up in conversation.

"We're heading to the third floor—the first is just fast food," Ning Chu explained.

The school cafeteria was tiered like a social ladder. The first floor served the cheapest set meals—ten yuan could get you a meat and veggie combo, enough to fill your stomach. The second floor offered snacks like burgers and spicy skewers, while the third floor was a bit fancier, with freshly cooked dishes made to order.

If someone was willing, they could take the campus shuttle to another zone where the food was supposedly better… but Ning Chu had always avoided that. After all, who knew what random plot flags might get triggered over there?

"Mom, what time are you leaving?"

"As soon as I finish my errands. If things go smoothly, I'll head back tonight. If not… might have to wait till tomorrow."

"I already talked to my advisor about the process. She asked me to stop by her office at two in the afternoon."

Ning Chu frowned. She wasn't sure how biased the advisor might be. Hopefully not too much.

They climbed the stairs to the third floor and immediately spotted Wen Yang waiting by the railing, wearing a stiff, overly polite smile that looked painful to maintain.

"Good afternoon, Auntie!" he greeted enthusiastically.

"Mm." Her mother replied with only the bare minimum of acknowledgment.

"This way, please. I've already ordered everything—just waiting on you now."

Ning Chu stole a quick glance at her mom's face, noting the polite smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Yep. Still not sold on Wen Yang.

To be honest, if she put herself in her mom's shoes, she wouldn't be too thrilled either. If her beloved daughter was being pursued by some penniless orphan, she'd be wary too. Sure, you didn't need to demand a house, a car, or a six-digit dowry… but at the very least, the guy shouldn't be dragging her daughter down.

Understanding didn't make it any easier to accept.

"Mom~" Ning Chu tugged on her mom's hand and pouted, acting spoiled.

Her mom let out a helpless sigh.

There she goes again, siding with outsiders...

At the table, four dishes and a soup were already steaming away, filling the air with an inviting aroma.

Wen Yang quickly laid out the bowls and utensils and ladled some soup for her mom before quietly taking his seat across from the two women. He opened his mouth, as if to speak—but no words came out.

So he just sat there. Upright. Nervous. Awkward.

"Mom, let Wen Yang take you to meet the advisor later. He's the class monitor, so he knows her well."

"Yeah, I know her pretty well," Wen Yang chimed in. "I'll go with Auntie in the afternoon."

Her mom picked up her bowl and gave a soft "Alright," then began to eat—though her eyes never stopped examining Wen Yang, making him squirm under the scrutiny.

To be fair, the kid was good-looking. From a succubus standpoint, he was a perfectly suitable partner.

But from a marriage standpoint?

All he had going for him was that face.

"Mom, stop staring at him and eat already." Ning Chu rolled her eyes and plopped a piece of meat into her mom's bowl. "After lunch, I'll show you around. The campus scenery is actually nice, it's just a bit chilly."

"It is colder here than back home. Have you been buying clothes?"

"Yup! I got two jackets and a pair of fleece-lined leggings." She sighed. "The tail's such a hassle. I have to wear skirts even in winter or I can't hide it."

"If you're okay with it, you could just let it show," her mom suggested.

She shook her head furiously. "Absolutely not!"

Even if her tail wasn't super sensitive, she'd never let it hang out in public. Not being able to see behind her made her feel super exposed.

This campus was the stage for the Hentai Doujin story that she wrote, a school where absurd, borderline XXX rated 'scenes' happened on a weekly basis.

There was even a scene where the villain attended some shady rich-kid "party," complete with orgies and... well, let's not go there. Though Zhang Shaoqing was still just a clown who talked big and did little, you could bet those events had already happened somewhere in the shadows.

Still, the scenery is pretty nice—quaint enough to call picturesque.

The trio strolled through campus casually, and before she realized it, Ning Chu had led her mom to the small park near the teaching building.

"Mom, there's a little lake here too! You can ride boats~"

"Not bad, huh?"

She clung to her mother's arm, already plotting to drag her to the library next. That way, she could at least pretend she spent all her free time studying diligently.

"A good dating spot, huh? Bet you come here often."

"Not that often..."

Wen Yang trailed a few steps behind them, hovering like a nervous attendant.

He knew how critical this moment was. If he failed to win over the future mother-in-law, there'd be no talking about futures with Ning Chu.

"Mom, I'll have Wen Yang escort you for the whole process this afternoon. It'll go smoother that way."

"Oh? He's got connections?"

"He knows the advisor. At least they won't push us around."

No one knew if changing academic records would go off without a hitch. With Wen Yang around, it felt like having protagonist plot armor—there wouldn't be any roadblocks.

Even Wen Yang didn't understand why Ning Chu always trusted him so much.

But somehow, he always came through. Like fate had decided he was her destined partner.

Nervous, he tugged at Ning Chu's sleeve and leaned in. "Let's not oversell it... I'm not that close with the advisor..."

"You're my protagonist~ Don't sweat it."

She waved off his concern and ran back up to her mom's side.

"Oh, I've got the written request all ready too."

She turned to Wen Yang, who promptly pulled out a neatly folded application form from his inner coat pocket and handed it over.

"Mom, you've got the supporting documents on your end, right?"

"Don't you trust me to handle things?" her mom chuckled, glancing at the form. "If all goes well, I'll head home by evening. I don't like leaving Ning Xin alone for too long."

"So soon? You're not even staying the night?" Ning Chu's face drooped with fake disappointment.

Please go home quickly!

She'd been hiding everything so well—but all it took was one glance from her mom, and she instantly saw through her.

"You do want me to leave," her mom teased.

"Not true~ Let's go to the library. Not much else to see here."

"Mom, I've been going to the library every day during lunch!"

Her mom nodded. "Good spot for a quiet nap, right?"

"I'm studying, okay?!"

"Pfft."

Ning Chu watched her mom laugh and felt her dignity crack just a little.

They walked a few more steps. Then Ning Chu's ears picked up a faint, moaning sound from nearby bushes.

Her instincts screamed.

Turning toward the sound—

Oh crap.

Without hesitation, she grabbed her mom's arm and speed-walked toward the park exit.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME—Outdoor quickies?! In broad daylight?!

Was the school not managing this place at all?

There were so many hotels outside the campus! How broke were these people?

Face bright red, Ning Chu risked a glance at her mom—only to see her smirking knowingly.

Their eyes met.

And she instantly averted her gaze, ears burning.

I swear I didn't do anything like that!

Okay—maybe she hadn't been fully innocent last night…

But it wasn't like she went all the way!

—Not that she could explain that to her mom.

Thank goodness she was a succubus and not a regular human girl. Otherwise, falling in love and nearly giving herself away so soon would probably earn her a spanking.

At least her mom was supportive of her dating.

"Let's go, let's go..." She dragged her mom away, face practically glowing. "We're going to the library now!"

Why'd I even bring her to this stupid garden?!

Wen Yang chuckled at her misery—and instantly stopped when she shot him a death glare.

Outside the library, Ning Chu proudly said, "This is just one of our libraries. There's a bigger one on the other side of campus, but this one's closer, so Wen Yang and I usually come here during lunch."

Though, it's usually mainly for naps and writing
